Intel Plans the Retirement of 17 'Ivy Bridge' Core Processors

Since Haswell is already doing an encore and Broadwell is looking good coming up, Intel has decided to do a little cleaning and discontinue some of its older processors. No less than 17 processors are set to get the axe and they are the Ivy Bridge-based Core i5-3330, i5-3330S, i5-3340, i5-3340S, i5-3470, i5-3475S, i5-3470S, i5-3470T, i5-3550, i5-3570, i5-3570S, i5-3570T, i5-3570K, i7-3770, i7-3770K, i7-3770S and i7-3770T.

The CPUs listed will continue to be available for ordering until December 24th while shipments will happen until June 5th, 2015.

I'm still rocking a Sandy Bridge. Still haven't seen a reason to upgrade yet.

Indeed...Sandy was a major milestone for Intel, especially the 2500k and 2600k. They will probably go down in history as some of the most noteworthy and memorable chips!

hell, I still kick with a couple 775 E8500s, another amazing cpu that should go down in history as a silicon superstar.
And my 25oo- Ks are still fantastic chips.
These "upgrades" make me laugh at myself. I was caught up in the buy buy buy thing for years. I have spent more money on cpus than I care to think about. No more... I've learned my lesson. Not unless they come out with something a LOT better and faster, a lot. And I don't believe that is going to happen anytime in the near future. Say the next 10 years or so?
What I have works and works the nuts for what I do. Intel really built a few winners with these chips.

I was on lynnfield until about 2 weeks ago. Went Haswell with 4670k, now hoping for a free jump to DC with the 4690k.

I'm glad to because I bought Ivy Bridge i7-3770K and he is not afraid of Prime95 Blend with AVX instruction on 4.8GHz. I didn't saw one Haswell i7-4770k stable with normal temps 12h of Prime95 AVX HT On on
4.4-4.5GHz Or OCCT or LinX AVX Edition. People payed so expensive motherboards to run in circle and tweak about 200-300MHz + - to find best temp/voltage option for 4.2-4.3GHz.
Next CPU only without Internal Graphic 6+ cores, something for longer period.
I don't want to read how Intel change decision, as they don't want to support i7-4970K on Z87, they could say no Broadwell on Z97. Now is two years how I use i7-3770K/Z77 and they still didn't change X79, he was available one year before Z77, but instead of that they change two platforms for mainstream and they plan 3rd Broadwell 2.5 years after Z77. 3 platform for 2.5 years every 5% difference. Scandal. If I buy 6-8 cores - DDR4 Quad 2133-2400MHz, SATA Express, USB 3.1 what so important can be changed for 3 years or 4. Nothing, DDR4 will be available only in 50% of PC and than.

Getting ready to sell my 3770K. Its been a great chip though no complaints. Agree Sandy was a breakthrough as was Core2. Before them your were lucky to get 300Mhz on an overclock

Nah, later P4 & PD's OC'd usually as hell, a 1GHz or more wasn't a miracle. But still they were slow when compared to a OC'd A64.

Getting back on topic, with Ivy still being on sale till December, and supplies and sales of these cpu's and corresponding 1155 motherboards still high, it seems to me this is a particularly long time that Intel has left a CPU line for sale. I think it was March, 2011, correct? That makes it almost 4 years for the consumer, and will b over 4 years on shipments (which I assume means OEM's?). Probably it's been since Core2 days for such a long run.
