Dammit I want the Kaveri Based Athlons one of those with a R7 265 would make for a great budget option.

yea, you would be looking at another FX-9590 proc but with half the cpu power. r7 265 has 150watt tdp all on its own.

And a GTX 760 has 170W TDP "all on its own". And a R9 270X has 180W TDP "all on its own". Yeah so much more efficient than a R7 265.

The A8-7600 is configurable to 45w. Not to mention the gpu part is on par with A10-6800k.
Afaik every Kaveri FM2+ APU supports cTDP down to 45W, it's a choice on my 7850k, so I'll have to go with OP on this it seems this A10 is the better choice unless the A8-7600 comes at a much better price.

Nope an Athlon based on kaveri would pull 95W and have more single threaded performance than an FX plus good FM2+ mobos are cheaper than equivalent AM3+ mobos

does it now? Weird though that the 45w part of 7850k was never explored in reviews. Maybe it's on selected boards that's just been enabled lately?

Guru3d's A10-7850k and A8-7600 review

"Power consumption wise AMD was able to keep the TDP of these APUs on track, either 45W, 65W or 95W depending on your choice of APU and in this case, the A8-7600 comes with a BIOS preference you can configure at 45W or 65W. The APU is a pretty clever product when it comes to its power design and power states. Not only can the processor cores independently be throttled down, lowering voltage and what not, there are different power states inside the APU allowing nearly complete shutdown of segments/domains within the APU. For example, if the GPU is not used, it can be powered or slowed down. The same goes for CPU cores".

Anyway I come across on this chart from kitguru. It says and kitguru does mention the A10-7800 is configurable to 45w?
