Shortly after the launch of its Catalyst 14.9 WHQL driver, AMD released a follow-up Catalyst 14.9.1 Beta driver, to address some immediate issues found with the driver. It addresses an intermittent black-screen or BSOD issue caused after driver installation of Catalyst 14.9 WHQL, Catalyst Control Center crash, random crash when enabling or disabling 4-way CrossFireX, and Battlefield 4 instability on systems with 4-way CrossFireX. It also fixes a system crash issue found with Sniper Elite III, on systems with 4-way CrossFireX.

I have big problems with vsync in assassins creed. I play on the tv wich is duplicated with the monitor. When the vsync is on, i get 30-40 fps, when off i get over 100-120 fps. This never happend with 14.4. I also got coruption of the cursor, with both the 14.9 and 14.9 beta.

Try disabling V sync in game and force it -with triple buffering- in D3D overrider.

I found this update seems to focus more on problems that came up with the 7990 in dual card variants.

I've been having tons of issues with my 7950 since... forever? It's not actually the same card anymore, as I RMA'd the original one, and actually managed to get a replacement even though it turned out the card wasn't defective in the first place.

I am so DONE with ATi/AMD and their bullshit drivers. First chance I get, I'm going (back to) green and forgetting AMD even exists.

Black screen - sometimes on boot, sometimes after PC goes to sleep, and sometimes after transitions from 2D to 3D or vice-versa. Artifacts and general glitching in DX10 and 11 (not in DX9 or OGL). Tried a different PSU (two actually, a CM V700 and a an SF Amazon 650), exact same issues. Tried an approximately infinite number of drivers, regular, modded, each with different sets of settings (clock, volts) reported as stable/working on various forums. Of course drivers thoroughly cleaned out after each uninstall (catalyst uninstall tool + DH's Driver Cleaner .NET).

Went back to my old GTX 465 for a while, no issues whatsoever, apart from everything running slower.

This card by chance? The specs you have listed on it if this is the card do not match which sounds like you are trying to undervolt/underclock it. If your are getting artifacts that to me points to lack of voltage which could be what's causing your problems though this is just a guess. You may want to enable it back to boost state stock settings and see what happens. As for the black screen issue not sure off the top of my head but what kind of input on the monitor are you using because I have a reference HD 7950 from Sapphire just installed into a friends machine and its output is DVI-HDMI adapter which does not have the black screen issue on Catalyst 14.7 RC3 (Have not updated it yet).

Not sure what to tell you honestly other than that, but I do not link artifacting and glitching to occur except when voltage is an issue or a bad card (Unless its a specific game which sometimes can be game drivers/GPU drivers. I know you said you tried different things (Including different clocks and voltages) but honestly just run it stock for a bit and see what happens because in all honesty if your still getting artifacting after that point that would point to a bad card.

My R9 290 BSOD'd with code 116 this afternoon when launching a DX8 windowed game while Folding@Home was running. Rebooted and it's fine now though. Running OpenCL and games simultaneously has always seemingly been a problem for AMD cards of the HD 7xxx and later generation at least, it seems.

Over many driver releases I haven't experienced problems when when I used my 7970s to OpenCL mine Litecoin while playing games, other than the games having a lower framerate as the two tasks were balanced. Are you sure this isn't a problem specific to F@H rather than a problem that applies to all OpenCL applications?

Good question, could be F@H honestly. I've had the issue for over a year with a 7950 and now this card, the 7950 used to crash and then the 3D application (like Guild Wars 2) would artifact like crazy or just break. I wish it worked for me how it works for you, though it seems to work better than it used to, I suppose.

Same thing happens to me with F@H, have to only run it on CPU if I'm going to game as well, otherwise the game will crash or I'll get a BSOD or hard reset.

I think I may wait on this driver... I'm pretty satisfied with the current drivers and since I'm not running a Crossfire setup I really don't see the need.

Symptoms of bad hardware minus black screen after resume. They never did fix that all the way even when they said so (Idk about now). I had xfire 7950s (OCed heavily, single then dual) and no driver issues except for games that were shit all around on both chip makers.

They just send you another junk card when you RMA lol. I would NEVER trust a refurb card. Their testers are too dumb/lazy to find the fault and ship it back out.

Sounds like a hardware issue. Theres no way you can get that many serious problems just from drivers.

sounds like RAM issues to me tbh, surprised at how much this thread got derailed by one guy not figuring out what was wrong with his PC.

After powering off my HDMI monitor with my 5870 the current drivers will not refresh the audio device, so I have to unplug the cable on my TV and plug it back in, woe is me.

I have 0 problems with my 7950 right now... I am running the 14.9 drivers and have updated them pretty much as they came out. I think the only issue i had was the screen not waking up after a sleep state. That was fixed with the 14.4~ drivers, or around then.. I see no reason to update to this beta driver though.

Can't seem to get rid of the flickering shadows on my 7950. Aggh.. Another driver, another hopeless battle.

I can mostly agree. I do get the stupid flickering shadows that plagued AMD 7000 series cards. Never found a fix. Seems like most people have luck getting rid of it by ridding the "edge detect" AA. It's not horrible, but god damn is it distracting!

14.9 Garbage?
Yeah; so I have Dual sapphire radeon HD7770 cards in my Platinum, Asus RoG, Haswell i5 back-up gaming rig, and I cant get 3 LEGO games to work on it (in~ or~ out~ of crossfire). So; I updated to the 14.9 drivers; but it give a FAIL FAIL FAIL every time and re-boots with a BSoD.

Meanwhile, Skyrim Legendary works GREAT on the same PC.
