Phanteks Enthoo Mini XL Lets You Run Two Systems Out of One Box

To cater to a growing class of enthusiasts with more than one system making up a main system, Phanteks rolled out he Enthoo Mini XL. This full-tower chassis has room for two motherboards, an ATX, and a mini-ITX. With three 5.25-inch drive bays, and two stacks of 4-tray 3.5-inch/2.5-inch bays, that can be detached to free up room for a tall radiator, the case can house two full-fledged systems, that are interconnected over network and KVM. There are two power supply bays, one that's standard ATX, and another that's SFX. Phanteks set up what's one of many build ideas for you to buy this case for.

Hehe, it reminds me of one of last DFi motherboards that had two systems on it. One full 775 platform and Atom methinks.

Yup, the "big" system was P45.

What's going on with the PSU setup in the OP? Is that a proprietary PSU in the bottom right, for the mini-ITX setup?

I don't think so. Looks like a SFX unit. I am fairly certain you can swap it with whatever you like. Be it Silverstone or beQuiet etc..

If that's the case, it's going to be tough to find units with cables that will reach up to the actual board right at the top of the case, unless it comes with extensions.

Now, that you mention it and I have the time I am looking. So far, it really is strange. The unit on the front is SFX, but the cables go to the MB? You can still swap it with extentions, I guess. But something else doesn't make sense. One SFX for the whole system? With that powerful VGAs? May be there's a second one or something. I don't know.

FYI, as mentioned in another Mini XL thread, it needs the upgrade kit (PH-ITXKT_01, $30) to support dual motherboards.

Not bad overall. I'd need to spend a lot of time on the wiring to get it neat as my vision of having a second system would be to have it handle the storage, along with other server duties, so 6-8 drives in there.

I can not see any practical application in doing this other than saving space. Personally would rather have 2x CM HAF Stax than this novelty.

Me either. I would sooner turn VT-d on in Linux and run VMs passing through the GPU. In other words, run VMs with dedicated access to GPUs that run just as fast as the real thing. Such a better option than building two different PCs when you can share almost all the components of one.
