Latest Intel Graphics Drivers Enhanced for 4th gen and 5th gen Core Processors

Intel released a new driver with support for Intel 5th Generation Intel Core processors with HD Graphics 5500, HD Graphics 6000, and Iris Graphics 6100 and key enhancements for Intel 4th Generation Intel Core Processors. Benefits of updating to this driver include addition of partial hardware acceleration for the VP9 video format (for Chrome video playback, Google Hangouts), GPU accelerated decode of HEVC video format (for 4K Ultra HD video playback) and expanded Open CL and Open GL extension support.

This new driver is timed with the newly released 5th Generation Intel Core processor which has up to 34% faster 3D graphics, faster CPU performance, up to 50% better faster video conversion, and more than 1.5 hours longer battery life compared to previous generation.

Maybe... They are trying but Intel has a lot of work to do to get up to speed on graphics.

I think intel has been making decent strides in performance. I don't think they are trying to become dominate in graphics either, because they have no reason too. Their hd4000 is about as fast as the 9800gt I started gaming on; this is plenty for older games and enough for low settings on many modern games.

If you have reasonable expectations, they perform pretty well.

And yes, before you ask why someone would use an Intel GPU for gaming, most laptops are stuck with these integrated GPU's. There ain't nothing we can do to fix this. Still, it would be nice if Intel cut the GPU out of the equation altogether and let us, users, decide which GPU we should pair their CPU's with.

Probably you're gonna be astonished at the realization that Intel doesn't sell you embedded graphics, the OEM does and decides what to sell to you. Intel perfectly knows that their embedded graphics is weak and it's more like an add-on vs. a real gaming GPU.

AMD APU laptops are scarce but they are dirty cheap and provide better gaming performance, specially from the A10-7300 and up

If you take gaming out of the picture, Intel's IGPs tend to be more than enough for most uses. It depends on what you plan on doing with it.
