NVIDIA's "Maxwell" GPU architecture reached the money-spinning mid-range of the market, with the GeForce GTX 960. Based on NVIDIA's new GM206 silicon, with 2.9 billion transistors, and 294 mm² die-area, and a narrower 128-bit wide memory bus, translating to just four memory chips on card to achieve its 2 GB, the GTX 960 is built to cost, and will give NVIDIA a vast amount of headroom for price-cuts.

The GeForce GTX 960 features 1,024 CUDA cores, 64 TMUs, and 32 ROPs, exactly half those of the GeForce GTX 980. It even has half the TDP, rated at just 120W. Cards based on this chip draw power from a single 6-pin PCIe power connector, which is a single 8-pin at best, for factory-overclocked ones. The core is clocked at 1127 MHz, with 1178 MHz GPU Boost, and 7.00 GHz memory (GDDR5-effective). NVIDIA's new memory bandwidth management tech gives it a 20 percent effective bandwidth uplift. Prices start at US $199.99, $50 lower than what the GTX 760 started out at.

All the models of this card show 6 memory chip locations on their PCBs with only 4 filled leading me to believe that GM206 is a 192-bit chip cut to 128-bit in GTX 960. I'm left to wonder if in the future we will see a re-release of GM206 with a 192-bit memory bus and potentially more SPs. GTX 960 Ti?

Hi guys! My first post...
So do I... There is a gap between 960 and 970 to be filled... 960Ti 3GB 192-bit $230-250 would be perfect for me. But 960 is a great deal... we just need reviews to confirm.
And sorry for my bad 'brazilian' English...

maybe they are reusing PCBs from GTX 660's which had 192bit interfaces?

the 960Ti will probably come from a cutdown GM204.

They are already selling GM204's identical to the GTX 960 (1024 SPs, 128bit) called the GTX 965M, it would assume they are saving chips between 1024SP's and 1664SP's to be used for the GTX 960Ti

personally I'm disappointed. hoped it will be a super card like 8800gt was.
or could be 30-50euro cheaper. instead in here it will be 230+ Euro or maybe 250Eur :(
R9 280-280x suddenly makes more sense.

why 128bit memmory interface? will there be a 192bit 960Ti....

Ok or a 960+ with higher clocks and then a 960ti? nooo not again...

i still remember how some of the customres of GTX650 where pissed about the deal with + and Ti versions just closely released :-(

Really half the tdp of the gtx 980? correct me if im wrong but this card is no where near half of 165w

Why 128-bit? Because it will perform every bit as well as a 192-bit interface would without their memory compression algorithm.

The point above about the PCB having provisions for 6 memory chips and only containing 4 hopefully does portend a 960Ti later down the road with a 192-bit bus. I think that would fill the hole in between the 960 and 970 quite nicely.
