This is basically a thread to feed my anger and frustration into.

So why I'm done with this game...
Basically, I wanted to start out purely trading to get enough credits to buy a decent ship (the good ones take a long time to save up for).
As those of you who have played the game will know, you start with around 4000 credits (I think), which is such a small sum to start trading on.
So I did some basic cargo delivering missions to get a few more thousand, then started finding trade routes for the transporting of commodities.
As I still only had about 10,000 credits max, I couldn't fill my cargo hold and so was still only making around 1000 credits profit per run.

But this is where the anger and frustration comes in: other players, even though I was just minding my own business kept pulling my out of supercruise and destroying my ship with my cargo in that I had invested nearly all my credits in...regardless of the fact that I was only minding my own business.
This was f***ing relentless, it happened over and over, and was turned into a loop. So I was making no money whatsoever.

Bare in mind I had been playing for about 15 hours at this stage, so all this time was wasted. This alone almost made me quit.

Then things started to happen in my favour: I found a trade route better than ones I had been using before, was making 1000 credits profit minimum to start with (that later turned into 5000), and best of all...no d***head players!
I was using a fuel scoop on this route, refuelling at 2 stars enroute. Maybe about 10 hours worth of gameplay later, I had gone from a meagre 4000-7000 credits to over 70,000. I thought I was actually making progress.

And then suddenly, after investing 64,000 of my credits in commodities to ship to the other starport for profit (like I had done dozens of times, with the same amount of cargo), for some reason, I had insufficient fuel to jump between two systems that I had jumped to and from countless of times. I had gone the exact same route, had maxed up on fuel before making the run and had refuelled at the exact same points in the journey. I am miffed by the cause of this.

In desperation, I jumped to nearby systems that were off-course just in the hopes that they had a fuel scoop-able star or star ports. I was unfortunate.
So I've basically just left the game, my ship drifting in deep space outside a non-fuel scoop-able star, knowing that the only was to get out of the situation would be to self-destruct and start over, back to square one with a sum of less that 10,000 credits...f*** that.

I'm so disappointed because the game is such an amazing, futuristic space simulator with amazing scale, graphics and sound design.
But progress for me is non-existent and I've just wasted 20+ hours and over 40 quid.

I'm done.

I changed it to solo, but mysteriously, I was still getting destroyed by either players or AI pirates. Either or, it doesn't matter - my reason for anger and frustration is still there.

Have you tried contacting the system administrators and explaining your situation? Maybe it would be helpful if you flattered them with what an amazing game you think this is and that you don't want to quit playing it.

@Joel Charig Shit, if this had happened to me I'd quit this time waster too.

Also, it sounds like you've hit a bug in the game not being able to do that jump. Why don't you try emailing the developer about it and see if they'll fix the problem for you? Make sure to tell them how much time and effort you've invested in the game too, so they'll understand it's not a trivial problem.

FD has been constantly tweaking the game, though the 1.2 update included a harder AI. I honestly took the combat and mission route in my early game and had a blast doing so. Got into an Eagle, upgraded power and weapons, went bounty hunting at Nav Points at system stars, made 1,000's and earned rep. I also got stuck in the trading routine...but my end game isn't like many that quit out, I'm in it to do what I want, when I want, how I want...and if I die along the way, oh well. That's the nice thing about Elite imho, you start over and can take a different route throughout space, how you conduct yourself, what missions you choose to do, and who you do them for. It's constantly getting better and better from what I've experienced, and I've been playing since beta when we used to get our saves wiped almost weekly.

There's still bugs and issues to sort out, and I feel their 1.0 should've been what is now 1.2.

Sorry for your anger at the game OP, maybe it's just not for you or maybe you need to walk away for a bit and find something else to play. Star Citizen just updated to 1.1. EvoMerc is a solid and friendlier experience in the early game. You might also check out Starpoint Gemini 2, pretty solid game as well.

Elite is an amazing experience, a lot of people rage quit, but this game isn't for the easy answers, easy exits, and easy money (well anymore), though it is easier than it was I appreciate them adding difficulty to it. The next badass ship I own and upgrade I will appreciate the self-worth of time I invested into it. Between Bounty Hunting duties and combat zones I'll stay quite busy in the thick of varying wars for some time. :)

@Joel Charig I hope you will be able to step away from this, not let the game offend you any further and be able to come back to it with a fresh attitude and a different route with your new start. :toast:

Well if it bothers you that much in reality, maybe it's better off you stand behind your words and be done. No harm in that. No sense in letting a video game get the best of you, if it can, I agree you should step away, video games are meant to be fun, engaging and entertaining. If it can't fulfill those needs, walk away! :toast:

I may come back to it in the future, to try it again but also to see how it's changed. I've spent the money on it so I guess it makes sense to.
I'm a person who nearly always forgives, whether that be people or video games. So we will see :)
With GTA V sitting in my library waiting for release day, it's going to be a long time before I play anything else, so my feelings won't be quite as negative by then :)

Well, they may not help you, but until you try you won't know so I think you should give it a go. Perhaps give it a little while until the intensity of your frustration has worn off a bit and then email them?

You're probably trading in low security/anarchy systems. People get interdicted a lot in those. This isn't an easy game, there a quite a few considerations you need to keep in mind while doing things in game.

That being said I understand your frustration. I've been there. Take a break. :) If you decide to play again as a trader (basically Euro Truck Simulator in ISIS territory), always have enough money for insurance (x2) and pay attention to where you are going. In the "info" for each system it will show a security status. Keep the trading in populated, higher security systems. Using this site: http://elitetradingtool.co.uk/ You can find the best trades.

Not to sound offensive, but you don't seem to understand this game at all. Do you call Nintendo when Mario falls down a hole? No. You probably do not.

Not to sound a smart ass, but maybe you can help him understand the game.
You don't sound like a smartass, you sound like you read one thing and didn't actually read my post. The part about low security systems and all that? You know... Helping? About the game in general there's way too much to cover in a forum post. The official website, reddit and the Elite Dangerous thread on this site are good places to go if you want to educate yourself on the topic.

On that note, you you want to continue the conversation on this game, use the Elite Dangerous thread: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/elite-dangerous.203401/
