Hmm maybe a connection issue? I can see it stalling out on a black screen if it cant verify the Rockstar servers. I know Erocker and Taco were having issues last night with that. Lots of lag and such.Tried that still no luck cant get my head round this well strange mite have to do a full reinstall
When it happens alt-tab out and see if the application has "Stopped Responding". If not I bet its having an issue with the servers in your region....or even your firewall. Do you use a third party firewall? If so see when it updated. It might be blocking something now where it wasn't before.
