Not sure how true the picture below is? these will go for $800+- a few bucks ???

sad... I dont really understand because for $200 more I could have 12GB of memory and a faster card aka Titan X

LOL, I remember the days when the 5870, the top card at that time, was launched for 400$ :)))

So a rumoured price of ~$800 USD :( that means it will probably sell for around $1100-$1250AUD here.

Unless I'm blown away by the benchies a second 980 is looking a lot more attractive now. I'm looking forward to seeing benchies run on AMD's flagship though, I might jump ship.

Highly doubtful that a Titan X will be faster than some of the AIB designed 980 Ti's.
Titan X is reference PCB and components little removed from the earlier GK100/GK110. The 980 Ti will come with vendor tweaked components.
Titan X is 8+6 pin. Many 980 Ti's will be 2x8pin with some significant headroom if previous cards like the Gigabyte G1 Gaming, Asus ROG cards and EVGA FTW/Classified are any indication.
Most Titan X's are 1000MHz core/ 1089MHz boost, and the highest clocked Titan X at the moment (EVGA's HydroCopper and Hybrid) has a lower boost (1241MHz) than the base frequency of Zotac's GTX 980 Ti Amp Extreme (1253MHz base clock/ 1355MHz boost/ 7210MHz effective memory).

Probably safe to assume that Zotac's offering won't be the only high clocked 2x8pin custom card, and I have little doubt that 25-30% clock increase + increased usable board power will more than offset a 2 shader modules (8%) deficit.
LOL, I remember the days when the 5870, the top card at that time, was launched for 400$ :)))
And this was exactly 4 and half years ago.
During a period when AMD was still aimed squarely at the strategy of sacrificing profit line for increased visibility and continuing the rehabilitation started with the RV770. The landscape today is more about two heavyweights trading punches rather than one company resigned to offering 80-90% of the performance and fighting solely on performance per dollar and performance per watt.
Prior to the arrival of G80 and the R600 debacle, both companies offered comparative performance with no caveats...and a 7800GTX 512 or X1950 XTX were both nudging (or over in many markets) $600 apiece. The last couple of years have seen similar moves - far more new top tier cards have begun at $550 than below. If anything, you could say that the HD3000/4000/5000 were the exception that proves the rule - an exception borne out of necessity.

Looks like the bastard offspring of Optimus Prime and a roll of razor wire...and a spitting image of their GTX 980

I don't know why they make such ostentatious cards aimed at (sorry folks!) kids when kids can't afford them. Despite how bad (IMO) it looks, it'll probably match a stock Titan easily.

Down to the wire this one. 980ti & Titan X soon to square off against an AMD heavyweight.

Only one thing that's disturbing. That mini fan on the top. Total unnecessary in my pov. Gonna add just "boeing comfort" inside the room.

About design... You know... the taste and color of all the markers are different. It's just about the taste.

I can't believe that so many are excited about paying the exorbident price for a hacked down GM 200 chip.

It's not fair, I paid $430 for my gtx 570.

Why do I now have to pay almost twice as much for the same thing ?

nvidea is sure to follow the same pathway by releasing the fully enabled GM200 7 months from now anyway.

It's l so sad.

I'm not paying a cent with this kind of treatment. Ill just wait a year and but the card when the next architecture is release (like I did with my current 780ti).
I totally agree.
I understand that Nvidia does not want to cannibalize the Titan X, but it took her to get a castrated and expensive card.

800 usd is a crazy price. For less than that, I bought a 970 SLI and saving me 100usd or more, plus I get a much better performance.

This is the perfect example of what happens when there is no competition .... unfortunately.
Castrated products at inflated prices.

Reference. No. Quiet First.
Reference card blows hot air out from the case. At least in SLI that is nothing but a good thing.

Umm, no. 4 and half years was like when HD6900 series came out. HD5800 came in 2009.

If we talk about SLI, then i'd go for reference ofc. Reference or Water. Open-air coolers not a good idea for SLI config, when one card make hot the other and about 300W of heat stay inside the case, giving the work for case exhaust fans.
I've tried SLI with Gigabyte GTX 580 Windforce X3, and was mine one of the most terrible building exp evah. System just shutdown in the 3d apps because the overheat.

Now i really want to try some Hydro SLI config.
Like this one, EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti HydroCooper

06G-P4-4999-KR_XL_1.jpg

That EVGA HC looks like a sex.
Or some custom EKWB solution are desired option either.

Just for you, here's a leaked (with actual pics of their 980 Ti) review of the GTX 980 Ti from Zol.com (only 19x12 and 25x16 resolutions I'm afraid - and there should be a question mark against the GTX 980/970 results in relation to the others like the GTX 780/780Ti)
Judging by the results, I have little doubt a vendor OC special will overhaul a Titan X.

Fun fact: ATI first used the Ultra moniker with their Graphics Ultra / Ultra+/Ultra Pro lines back in 1992, and in 1999, both Nvidia (TNT2 Ultra) and ATI (Rage 128 Ultra/ 128 Pro Ultra) were using the name.

I had two of the Ultra's you mentioned - more or less - the FX 5900 Ultra 256M, which was very disappointing, and three EVGA 8800 Ultra's which most certainly weren't - aside from price.

$650 probably for reference, and ~$800 for alt.

If by alt you mean AIB offerings, there's no way they would charge a $150 markup. Usually third party models are $0-50 more, excluding things like the watercooled variants eVGA offers. Nvidia has been good about keeping them close in price--I think the 970 Strix was like $5 more when it launched.
