so it puts the base clock to 125 HOLY CRAP BATMAN! that seems like a XMP program error to me. I can barely get 108mhz on my base lol
do you have to enable XMP to adjust the timings and to keep the base clock at 100.. ish?

Biggest difference between these and the 16GRR kit reviewed earlier is the ICs used, these are Samsung K4A4G085WD while that one used Hynix H5AN4G4NMFR. These days though, the 3000C15Q 16GRR and 16GRK kits and even the F4-3200C16Q-16GRKD use Samsung I think with G.Skill now you have to get 3200C15 or 3300/3333C16 for guaranteed Hynix.

nope, no error. Seems that 125 BCLK can boot on many boards, since CPU supports this divider. You can use 100 +/- ~10%, 125 +/- ~10%, and 166 +/- ~10%.

G.Skill DDR4 with Samsung has x500 as digits 5~7 of the serial numbers on the sticks. Hynix has x400. Most of the sticks people have been buying that have a 2015 manuf date on the serials have been Samsung aside from the top rated (=$$$) kits.

Kits will vary what ICs are in them based on what's available at time of manufacture and what fits the binning process for that SKU. So listing IC type for any kit from any brand can lead to users buying kits with wrong information if they are on the IC hunt. But since those users are few and far between in the first place, I will leave this picture to illustrate why I said what I did. You can compare with my other G.Skill kits and come to your own conclusions. I 100% know it can vary. You may be right about serial number, but as you said, this kit should have specific serial number, and have specific ICs, and my kit disagrees with you.

Actually, I have had these since about a week after they were made (they went out the door from factory direct to my door). I do test the stuff I review pretty extensively, and this takes time, and the past year or so I've been slow in reviews. I was ina car accident and this and other life occurrences has limited me a bit. Yet still, the point is illustrated... IC use in any kit can change depending on what is available.

As to it not being representative, well, since I am only reporting stock numbers, that point is rather moot. For OC purposes, I might agree with you, but I don't report OC numbers just yet, and IC investigations will be part of that article when it gets posted (there are tests you can do that single out which IC is present regardless of what any label says, as I am sure you are aware).

Those few that are chasing benching records prefer Hynix at the moment. My own preferences, as usual, tend to differ from what those guys are after. LoL.

Hey I know you already put a lot of time into this. but do you think this 3000mhz kit could run at 2133mhz with really tight timings? like similar to the best DDr3 or even lower? would you be willing to try it?
cause I dont see why I would want DDr4 if the timings are slower anyway.

Primary timings aren't everything, and the higher clock speeds plus quad channel produce some serious bandwidth. If you're buying X99, you don't have a choice but to get DDR4 and I suspect that will be the case practically with Skylake as it won't support standard DDR3. Eventually DDR4 will be all but mandatory.

I have a Ripjaws V 3600 MHz kit, currently in testing. New VGA, new OS, new platform, testing takes a while since I am re-testing some of the older DDR4 kits.
