AMD is planning to expand its socket FM2+ chip lineup with three new parts, the A10-7890K and A8-7690K APUs, and the Athlon X4 880K CPU. The three parts surfaced on the compatibility list of socket FM2+ motherboards by BIOSTAR. The architecture mentioned is "Kaveri," but the silicon could very well be "Godavari," (Kaveri refresh).

The refreshed lineup will be led by the A10-7890K, which features CPU clock speeds of 4.10 GHz out of the box, with an unknown TurboCore frequency (the current series leader A10-7870K offers 3.90 GHz with 4.10 GHz TurboCore). The A8-7690K offers CPU clocks of 3.70 GHz, and an unknown TurboCore frequency. There's no word on the iGPU clock speeds of the two chips. The third and most intriguing part is the Athlon X4 880K, with 4.00 GHz CPU clocks. The Athlon X4 FM2+ series lack integrated graphics, and make for good buys for people planning to build machines with discrete GPUs, on the FM2+ platform. All three chips offer unlocked base-clock multipliers, enabling CPU overclocking.

Finally glad to see AMD releasing something even though it's nothing too exciting, just a slight speed refresh. The cheapest model would be perfect for Office PC's, now AMD can you hurry up with the Fury Nano.

Sorry btarunr
Godavari isn´t Excavator like Carrizo non-L
It is Steamroller like Kaveri is.

TIL. Thanks.

well i think the wholr Godavari Name and Marketing is missleading and obsolete.
Like you wrote, it simply is a Refresh on Kaveri,
no lossless Colorcompression etc.

I think Godavari ended up in OEMs as an 8000 series.
Anyway it's not more misleading than Devil's Canyon.

For me the most interesting part here is the 880K, for some one who wants a cheap quad core without the cost burden of the integrated graphics to couple with a decent discreet GPU this could be a strong option, the FM2+ platform is fairly solid, the A88X chipset has some decent OC capabilities and is reasonably cheap..... hopefully the 880 will overclock well too.

I would agree with you in the past but not today. The multiaadapter feature of DirectX 12 will make these integrated GPUs important, even if you do own a discrete GPU. Probably that's one of the reasons Intel is trying to improve it's iGPUs even when 99.9% of those who buy hi end Intel CPUs don't care about those iGPUs. In a way they hate them because they think that if Intel wasn't fooling around with the iGPU there would have been models with more cores in the market or better IPC.

Who cares what's in his system? He's not wrong, there's nothing actually exciting about this. It's a refreshed and slightly clock bumped product launch.

It'll be exciting when their Zen APUs and CPUs are launched. Stop being so obsessed over a corporation that couldn't care less about you - the individual - that you get upset when people don't say something nice about your company. It's not healthy.

Exactly this. I dont care about this amd stuff and i'm very glad i went 1155 at the time.
But there are numerous people, buying on budget and CPUs in that segment matter.

And the only thing different about those athlon is simply frequency. Nothing else. Refresh only referrs to clock bumps, not arch improvements.

Honestly, i though AMD would push excavator + gcn1.2 APUs by now. For fm2+ that is.

They don't have the money. They abandoned not just FM2+, but also AM3+ and AM1. No Steamroller on AM3+, no Excavator on FM2+, no Puma+ cores on AM1. Rebrands on most GPUs. They just don't have the money.

Now these new models look like 100MHz bumps, but in my mind they are a good excuse to see older models becoming cheaper, and that's good news.

Of course you are entitled to have a different opinion but to suggest that another member does not care about an AMD CPU release just because he currently owns an Intel CPU is misinformed (I can say that because I currently own an Intel CPU and I do care), and could possibly come across as somewhat arrogant.

Likewise, I am looking forward to see how much of an improvement there is on the 880K over the 860K. I have played with a few 860K's and they all performed about the same in terms of overall overclocking (4.5ghz being pretty easy with about 4.8 being the limit). I would hope these new ones are a little more refined to make the push to 5.0ghz a little easier!

I actually do not mind the FM2+ with an A88X chipset for even medium range gaming, they do a decent enough job especially if your on a budget.

Closest to a Steamroller CPU that we are going to get. :(
If it performs great, then more power to it. :)

no fair ... i3 cannot be Oc'd, ... no unlocked multiplier

I think its plenty fair as a lot of higher tier i3's beatdown 'top tier' AMD Bulldozer and Piledriver chips. If there are ANY advantages that the Bulldozer or Piledriver chips do have, Its hardly taking the ball and running with it. a top tier i3 isnt too far behind at all.

its a test of efficiency and to see if the architecture has improved at all, You cant overclock and i3, but with a i3-3470 is more than enough to run a powerful mid-range or upper mid-range gaming PC.

You could also say its unfair because i3-3470 has 2 cores and 2 hyper-threads but that didnt stop it performing on the same level if not better than an FX-8350 (non-overclocked)

i3's are actually great gaming CPUs. there are a few caveats of course.

::EDIT::

Here are a few videos of an i3-3220 gaming...

Farcry 4:

At 2:33 you can see he has everything set on ultra

BF3:

at 0:04 - you can see in the settings that he has it set to ultra for a i3 & HD7770, it looks pretty sweet. performance is decent.

Obviously when it comes to game like TotalWar and such, the CPU WILL die because it hasnt got that multi-threaded ability.

thanx again,
