OFFICIAL Battlefield 4 (Discussion)

Yeah I saw him in there a while ago and he vanished. I don't even think I have seen him in Steam. Anyone have his contact? See if hes ok?

Ducky/Death probably does.

The guy on that boring analysis video has no life??? I mean, Poker or Roulette or Chess are games that last a hunderd years or more. BF games last 2 years, so what's the point of dedicating it such attention, if it's only fast food?

I miss all the maps from Battlefield 2. I want a Strike at Karkand remake for BF4 along with Gulf of Oman, im sure I'm missing some other goodies.

yes I agree Karkand was one of my favourite maps . I hate Golmund Railway the most now from BF4 . I'm into BFH at the moment and it really grows on u I've found. Its more street combat and less
Vehicles .

Follow the link for the servers or just search: DICE HIGH.

DICE is doing public testing of high ticket rate servers. Right now 60hz servers are up. As soon as the testing is done they will move on to the next test. It's possible they'll test all the way up to 144hz, albeit on only 32 or 20 player max.

60hz 64x42 servers are up (over night) - runs all base game maps! See you tomorrow for 32 player testing!

KNOWN ISSUES

  • Flying with mouse is not 1:1 with 30hz, up your vehicle sensitivity for now! (Fall Patch)
  • Sprint acceleration is not 1:1 with 30hz (Fall Patch)
  • Higher tickrates use quite alot more bandwidth than 30hz - we have significant improvements coming in fall (Fall patch)

EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR

  • Button presses are handled faster, making the game feel different. This is intended (input lag is minimized with higher simulation rate on clients)
  • Higher tickrates means a more taxing game for your computer, you might notice frame drops. Lower your settings if this is the case!

Today we have planned to start our retail testing of high tickrate for PC. The end goal is to get enough data to make confirm our findings when it comes to server and client performance, and in the end allow Rental Server Providers to rent out high tickrate servers to players.

We have a special server that we are going to use for the occasion (it's an exact mimic of a regular high end 64 player server). The testing is going to gradually increase the tickrate from the basic 30hz up until we see it has reached it's limit on the current hardware (issues start happening). Once we reach the limit, we will go on to the next set of tests.

First out will be 64 player servers. And since this is a "regular server", we will run 4 instances (IE 64 * 4 player slots). For comparative results, we need to fill all these slots for about 2 rounds per test. Note: The quicker we can reach full 64x4 for two rounds, the quicker we will get to the next set, finish this testing and be able to release this in the wild!

We will start each set with a 30hz setting to have a baseline as well. The plan for Wednesday (9/16) starts like this:

SET 1 (64x4 players) - Wednesday 9/16:

  1. 30hz - 64x4 Conquest Large (base game maps) [Base line]
  2. 45hz - 64x4 Conquest Large (base game maps) [Works fine]
  3. 60hz - 64x4 Conquest Large (base game maps) [Our top limit, red icons across the board]
  4. 60hz - 64x2 Conquest Large (base game maps) [left overnight]

SET 2 (32x4 players) - Thursday 9/17?:

  1. 30hz - 32x4 Conquest Small (base game maps) [Base line]
  2. 45hz - 32x4 Conquest Small (base game maps) [Probably will work fine]
  3. 60hz - 32x4 Conquest Small (base game maps) [Probably will work fine]
  4. 75hz - 32x4 Conquest Small (base game maps) [Probably will work fine]
  5. 90hz - 32x4 Conquest Small (base game maps) [might reach the limit for 32x4]
  6. 120hz - 32x4 Conquest Small (base game maps) [improbable for 32x4 players]
  7. 144hz - 32x4 Conquest Small (base game maps) [improbable for 32x4 players]

SET 3 (20x4 players) - Friday 9/18?:

  1. 30hz - 20x4 Team Death Match (base game maps) [Base line]
  2. 45hz - 20x4 Team Death Match (base game maps) [Probably will work fine]
  3. 60hz - 20x4 Team Death Match (base game maps) [Probably will work fine]
  4. 75hz - 20x4 Team Death Match (base game maps) [Probably will work fine]
  5. 90hz - 20x4 Team Death Match (base game maps) [Probably will work fine]
  6. 120hz - 20x4 Team Death Match (base game maps) [might reach the limit for 20x4]
  7. 144hz - 20x4 Team Death Match (base game maps) [improbable for 20x4 players]

Once this testing is over, we might do a quick run using less instances (IE instead of 4 servers we run 2) - to make sure our assumptions about max player counts and the upper limits of tickrate for the server hardware are correct.

I'll update this thread as soon as we have more information (like the server names etc). Also watch my twitter if you are interested in taking part - and help spread the word so we can fill these servers up for 2 rounds per!

I spectated the high tick server and it just lags for everyone even the waves were stuttering.

red icons across the board indeed.

I'm excited for tdm tests myself.

I played on it last night, I really couldn't tell a difference, but I did not experience any stuttering either. Probably had to do with my 130+ ping. People like to complain about lag comp, but I remember playing UT99 on dial up with ~190 ping and having to compensate my aim for where the target actually is based on server position, sometimes it was aiming really far in front of someone. The good days :)

I may have to jump on and check these out. Are infrared scopes a must ? I assume they have vehicles.

Too late, they were only up for 3 days.

Any word when Dragon Valley may come out for the game? I played that maps for hours on BF2. Huge map with great vehicle battles.
I assume it will have the Mountain between the carrier and other bases to sit on and rain death down on people.

Im not sure they are making any more maps... Final Stand was just released and the night pack..

Dragon Valley is in development. Guys on TPU beta tested it.

There's more coming. More night maps, and Dragon Valley. Dragon Valley was playable on the CTE for a couple weeks.

Where did you hear about more night maps?

High tickrate servers are going up.
I played in a 144tickrate 30 man tdm german server it really helps the game feels faster shots are more accurate.

Dragon Valley is probably going to be coming in the winter patch (so early next year). They're right now heavily focused on the Community map (which is infantry focus) and it's the next map to coming. It's suppose to come out with the fall patch.

High tick rate servers are coming. I'm not 100% sure if there will be over 60hz right now, but I know on PC 60hz is the least that is coming. High tick rates will more than likely limited to lower player counts.

The only other night maps that might be coming are Golmud and Shanghai. Pearl Market is not coming because DICE wants to give these maps away, thus they're not going to do a night version of a DLC map. Though with that said, Chain Link is coming in the Community map and will be playable by those that do not have that DLC. If Golmud and Shanghai do come out as night maps, they're not coming until after Dragon Valley. So it's going to be middle of next year at best.

Unfortunately I don't have any videos of that map, but be sure I'll be playing it 24/7 once they switch to it. There is this video by Chris. He does a few fly overs of the map to give you an idea of the layout it had back in July.

I have almost finished my rage collage (not much room left).
