What videocard will support better and will r9 390 support dx12 in the future?
The r9 390 have 8gb ram but he dont have the power to move this ammount of vram , and the 980 have power but only 4gb. The price difference is also huge so I am leaning towards the r9 390more. I see on internet , only 980ti and the Fury are compatible with directx 12 12_1.
I will play at 1440p.

another quick question. I am a bit confused since the r9 390 is512bit vs the gtx 980 256bit. Can they both run in the same slotÉ My mobo is gigabyte z97x gaming 5.

All gpu you said are support DX12.
But which one is better is still need to wait for actual benchmark(s).
Currently there are only few DX12 benchmarks to make clear conclusion.

512bit/256bit has nothing to do with end user like you or me. It'll fit just fine in any mobo that has PCIe slot.

Yes, GCN 1.0, 1.1 (of which 390 and 290 are), 1.2 all support DX feature level 12.0 as of catalyst 15.10 beta.

GTX 980 (I assume that's what you meant) supports DX feature level 12.1.

512-bit/256-bit is the memory bus. If memory serves, 512-bit supports 16 VRAM (512 MiB each) chips where 256-bit supports 8 VRAM (512 MiB each) chips.

That's CCC 15.9; was it 15.9 that added 12.0 or was it always correct for 3## cards?

15.9 made DX12 shows up in dxdiag. I don't recall having any issues running a DX12 demo on the latest WHQL, unless it fell back on DX11 or something. Either way latest drivers should get you DX12 support on GCN GPUs.

It should be noted there isn't any non-demo/prototype available now that uses DX12 and AMD will likely push out a WHQL driver (non-beta) before the first releases. If it is GCN, it will work when the time comes.

390 is more tuned for performance in DX12 while 980 brings some more graphical options. Roughly what it all amounts to. I wouldn't pay the premium for a 980. Not gaining much performance from a 390. Unless those 980s all drop into 390X prices, I wouldn't waste money on them.

How is it running (temp, noise, performance) and what brand is it? Msi?
It's an MSI 390 GAMING. It's big, long, heavy, and relatively quiet compared to my chassis fans. 71-72*C at full throttle is about what I see without messing with any fan profiles or anything. All in all, I've been pretty happy with it.

It's just slighty fatter than 2 slot cooler, so it's lighter. The worst case scenario the card will be saggy within years of use. Backplate helps prevent that though.

As far as I can find, MSI 390 is ~1300gr and Asus 3 slot 7970 is ~1500gr

Just make sure that the GPU is properly mounted to the chassis and that nothing is learning on the back of the card. I said it was big, long, and heavy, I never said it was flimsy. ;)
