Club3D Announces USB 3.1 Type-C Adapters

Club 3D is proud to announce a range of USB Type-C Adapters. In the first months of 2015 the USB Type-C connector was introduced. This completely new connector plug is smaller, reversible and capable of transferring more than data alone. It is expected that the USB Type-C connector will eventually replace the USB Type A and Type B connectors we have all been using over the past years.

In addition to our existing range of high quality Audio/ Video Adapters Club 3D is proud to announce a range of USB Type-C Adapters. It is expected that the USB Type-C connector will eventually replace the USB Type A and Type B connectors we have all been using over the past years.



With the Type-C connector, the USB 3.1 standard was introduced as well. Compared to USB 3.0 the new standard offers twice the transfer rate of up to 10Gbps and allows for three essential features to be used over a single cable: Video, Data and Power. The possibility of connecting and powering your laptop, tablet or smartphone with a range of peripherals, monitors and other devices using only one cable is a significant improvement over the previous standards. It means the beginning of a new era with less cable clutter, higher transfer speeds, faster charging, and support for DisplayPort alternate mode which enables video signal transport up to 4K UHD resolution at 60Hz. It's recognizable by the small and convenient, future proof connector plug which will be implemented in the vast majority of (mobile) devices you will own in the coming years.

Everybody knows the traditional USB is 4 dimensional, no need to explain it.

This sucks, we have just traded one robust connector for one less robust connector. And how do they expect Type-C to replace Type-A if even Intel's 100 series chipset does not have native support for Type-C?

And I do not know if anyone noticed but a lot of motherboards, PCs, chipsets still have a lot of USB 2.0 ports on them in 2015 and that shows that maybe in 5 years we will start including only USB 3.0 ports and then maybe in 10 years only Type-C ports. Maybe till 2030 we will all start using only Type-C ports.

There's always the next chipset. Type-C is a radical change as it messes with backwards compatibility, which is a source of USB's main staying power. It doesn't mess with it to the extent of a competing standard but it's still disruptive. And so I wonder if it'll really take off. Amusingly, Type-C was created to be "idiot-proof" because some people couldn't figure out the correct orientation on their first try. But with all the old Type-A cables everywhere, it means people will need adapters or new cables. Either way, it's a potential cause for disgruntled/confused people and a definite win for consumerism.

While I'm aware of the USB superposition meme, for most USB connectors, the correct position has the USB plug logo facing up. Mad Catz/Cyborg's R.A.T. mice are among the exceptions since they have Cyborg logo on the top and the USB logo on the bottom when it's in the correct position.

The reason we don't have all USB 3.0 is due to recently in Broadwell and Haswell a large majority of the PCI Lanes were taken up by other things, because Intel doesn't see the benefit in adding those things because their Broadwell-E chipset was their priority for using all the new goodies.

No I don't think so.

Theoritically yes, USB type C could carry DisplayPort signal. Even at 4K@60Hz it has spare room for two USB 3.1 lanes (!). So the only thing left is to have VGA with USB type C port... I don't think it will come soon.

Maybe somebody will make DisplayPort to USB-C adapter to be used with this Club3D USB-C to HDMI 2.0 adapter xD

But wait a little while, the same company promised DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0 active adapter soon*.

* It's already a year when somebody promised DP-HDMI2.0 adapter for 4K@60Hz but that thing still doesn't exist or delayed or under development status. Doesn't make sense. Political? Royalty problem? Sharing market pie?

This is all so weird to me, if we take the latter, does dGPU transfer the image using PCIe to USB 3.1 controller which then using the Alternate Mode relays it to the end device?

aren't these aimed/marketed toward that macbook , that ONLY has a single usb type C port, and thats it?
im certain they have other uses, but thats what comes to mind when i see usb-C to ethernet.

The only reason this article intrigues me:

I would like to start seeing more DP ->HDMI 2.0 active adapters but, getting some form of active adapter to HDMI 2.0 is a good sign IMHO.

its a USB video card, GPU in the system does nothing to it.

That means that you will get higher CPU usage than if you would have non-USB monitor and playing video games or viewing high-bitrate video is not going to work well. For example if you use this with 4K and 60Hz:

It is not the best solution since this will strain the CPU even more and this would be useful if you wanted text to look better but playing video games is out of the question.

it's useful for systems like the new macs without external GPU outputs. they are not for everyone.
