the fact that bases are no longer immutable indoors locations makes that basically impossible. building fortresses and having them get rekt will change the gameplay immensely.
I hope bases are inconsequential as usual though. I don't want open world game devolved into game of management.

The best base for me is one single shack with single room with single blackhole container and close to fast travel point xD

1. they work for factions you can take sides with, and kill one off.
2. not sure on that, anythings possible
3. they've mentioned you can have multiple bases with trade caravans between them. limited locations, but more than one at a time.
4. you can build it your own way, putting things how you like it. traders near the door, your rape dungeon, whatevs. they have mentioned random attacks on your constructed bases.

I think there are some things here that I didn't properly frame.

First off, maybe you should go back to Fallout 3. Harkness was part of a quest which talked about the institute and commonwealth. In it, they said that humanoid androids were used as labor, and that those humanoids occasionally broke free. Harkness was an android tasked with bringing them back, who eventually decided that he wanted to run as well. Our release trailer states that the commonwealth is fighting the androids, so they've either rewritten history, ignored previously established cannon, or they're jerking us around with the trailer. None of these conclusions gives me a lot of faith in what Bethesda is bringing to the table.

Second, multiple bases means nothing and neither does building it your own way. It might be hard to remember, but the Skyrim expansion let you have multiple bases. The reason it did was because you could only have so many rooms, and to get everything the game had to offer you'd need all three houses built. Despite this, they always touted the ability to build your own home your own way. Seems familiar; consider me severely unimpressed. They haven't done anything to counteract that model yet. I'm sorry, but having to build and maintain multiple bases to get everything I want isn't a thrilling RPG, it's an exercise in base management. I personally want Fallout 4 and a tower defense game to be separate entities, not something fused together so Fallout 4 can suddenly appeal to more people.

Bethesda should not be taken at their word. It isn't worth the paper that it is printed upon, so I'll only trust them whenever I can see the final game. If you don't share that particular reality, allow me to remind you of the past. Most recently, paid Skyrim mods. Behind that, horse armor. Behind that, a stable experience is New Vegas. Behind that, support for Fallout 3 until it was stable. Bethesda as a publisher promises the moon and I've yet to see them deliver on it. While I don't think they'll deliver a bad experience, it would be much better if instead of promising us things without context they just delivered the game.

Finally, Bethesda is making this game. Let's allow that to sink in for just a moment. The same people who have issues with their engine and consistent AI behavior. The same people who cannot path the AI very well, as demonstrated by numerous community fixes for AI pathing in their games. Do you honestly expect that trade caravans aren't going to be an...interesting... proposition if getting from point A to B is not a straight line? I'm sorry, but they no longer have the ability to fool me here. I've watched Brahmin phase through walls, suddenly run away for no reason, and get stuck behind an ankle high wall because of geometry within the level. I will happily say I'm wrong when it can be demonstrated, but I don't have the slightest hope that this game will magically fix all of those issues.

So again, happily looking forward to 4 but not expecting half of what most people are. I think everyone has some rosy glasses on, given my more recent experiences with Bethesda's progeny. I *blue screen crash to desktop*

May I ask where the proof is to justify that conclusion?

For a moment, be as cynical as you can be. I'm asking you this, because Bethesda generally promises a lot and demonstrates enough to get people hyped. What they deliver is less than what our hype was for.
Regarding the NV bugs u mentioned have u checked out new vegas nexus? FYI it's where the modding community hangs out. They have many bug fix mods, some have a couple hundred fixes,

if you haven't seen the mods available you'll be in for an eye opener.. Some of them completely overhaul the game. I only play Fallout because of the modders. The Vanilla version sucks imo.

I don't know how and what the audio compression/ bitrate used but if it's high quality then they're probably big. A single lossless audio track would take some space.

Voices:
"Over 13,000 lines of dialogue have been recorded by the main actors in Fallout 4, Courtenay Taylor and Brian T. Delaney, who voice the woman and man protagonist respectively and Taylor - who voiced Jack in Mass Effect 2 and 3 - has now spoken about..."

https://bethesda.net/#en/events/game/bringing-voice-to-fallout-4/2015/11/03/43

Musics:
"... Fallout 4 has upped both the volume and variety of music, offering three times the amount of music (compared with Fallout 3). The carefully curated tracks have become core to the identity of Fallout..."
https://bethesda.net/#en/events/game/facing-the-music-in-fallout-4/2015/11/02/42

And have you seen the official launch trailer? The building textures are looking very detailed.

I'm surprised of the skepticism of some in this thread. Sure FO4 isn't going to be perfect, but it's going to be great. Skyrim practically redefined the RPG genre as we know it today, Bioware has stated that in an interview. Bringing a quality RPG to the console masses and being as popular as it is was unimaginable back when it released. People still make quality mods for Skyrim even today and not too long ago, Bethesda wanted to monetize that as it is so popular. Sure Bethesda games are buggy, but they almost always redefine the RPG genre as we know it. I hope FO4 is as popular as Skyrim is and can't wait to play it.

@Eric3988 I'm not sure we can say Skyrim redefined RPG's. Yes, it's a very good example, but not redefining. I say that as a guy whose 2nd favorite game is Skyrim.

I think the skepticism here is based on the fact that Bethesda ALWAYS releases an unfinished, 1/2 play-tested bug-ridden mess. Things that could be minimized by spending more time in development and playtesting.

Do they provide alot of patches? Yes, thankfully they do....it's the least they can do. And thankfully they open the games modding.

And therein lies the long term success and playability of Bethesda games. Mods fix bugs that Bethesda refuse to, and add alot of extra content, allowing players to vastly alter the game in every way imaginible.

I'm not sure about the mods' influence. I think I read somewhere that the amount of people using mods is around few percent at best, and console sales being dominant to PC.
And Skyrim certainly got everything but a lot of patches :( I hope they will do better with FO4 at least in this regard, and won't leave bugs unfixable by the modding community in.

Actually pc sales and use of their games long term far outstrips consoles. It's always precisely been because of mods giving people the ability to constantly change their game.

Mods is actually a HUGE percentage of PC users. It was no small change that Bethesda and Steam thought they could make off of mods.

According to that both last gen consoles smoked the PC in sales. Skyrim may not seem groundbreaking anymore, but at the time it was. It vastly improved the leveling systems of the past elder scrolls games. My wife would play skyrim with her friend and other college classmates on a big screen in the gym so everyone could see and take turns. That sounds like a sports game or fighting game kinda thing to do, not RPG lol!

The problem Eric3988 is that Steam does not release sales data meaning the above data you have shows 14% of total sales on PC well that 14% is via 3rd party or brick and mortar it doesnt include Steam sales.

As such their is no true PC metric for total sales of Skyrim.

Ah well, I'm sure the console crowd is still a huge chunk. They may not be an audience we care about but they help stuff become mainstream.
