Compare 980 Ti G1 vs 980 Ti Golden Edition slight dissapointment

Just picked up a MSI 980 Ti Golden Edition along with Gigabyte 980 Ti G1. Even thought MSI's card was slight more expensive, it has a very low ASIC score of 67 vs 72.9 on Gigabyte 980 Ti.

Individually G1 boost much better then the MSI 980 TI. Since I am putting them in SLI, does it matter if one card runs at slight higher Voltage (MSI by default)then that other ?

Two different cards different clocks, different voltage... you are surprised and disappointed? I would call this expected.

Voltage doesn't matter, no. Just sync the cards up with MSI AFterburner and be done with it.

nope, different voltages on cards is common. I happen to have two cards now that run at the same voltage; just luck of the draw. Remember that many users will buy GPUs and never even look at this stuff, so if they don't need to (it'd be in the manual), then you don't either.

Right I think I jumped to conclusion very swiftly. I am just surprised that Premium Cards aka Golden Edition can have such a lower ASIC score not that it really matters since I would never use LN. G1 Boost much higher but runs hotter while Golden Edition run's about -/+ 11 cooler under similar loads.

I believe there is a correlation between the numbers that ASIC presents and the performance of the graphics card. The key is what you consider performance, or what aspect you're looking at.

A higher ASIC doesn't guarantee higher (over)clocks, however a GPU with a higher ASIC can often do more with less voltage.

There is no magic ASIC number yet, even among the same die package and spin, it seems to be a crapshoot on voltages and clock scaling, as well as the memory controller and its ability to scale.

This is all it means, afaik. Lower asics leak more, but may ultimately achieve higher clocks.

With respect, it is in your head that a 'premium' card should be a better overclocker. VERY RARELY are these things binned like that. You paid for a higher clockspeed out of the box and a copper cooler. That is it.

In the end, from 970 to 980 to 980Ti, it seems like they all crap out around upper 1400's to 1550 MHz on the core (talking ACTUAL boost clocks).

Silicon lottery... mine with custom bios @1472MHz without moving from point... ie she always works on max without throttling, that's the charm of the bios. But many seem to go past 1500MHz, well unlucky me...

As everyone else has stated, its just luck of the draw whether you get a great overclocker or not unless they specify that these cards are binned out to a certain specification. Even when there is a premium charge it does not automatically mean better asic score.

I have plenty of friends that attest to the very same thing including myself.

I never said 'premium cards' are better over clockers - wasn't even discussing that.
In fact I've always been one of the first to tell people that mostly it's a sham, and paying for a pre overclocked card can be potentially a waste of money.

I ran 2 GTX 570s, the EVGA card voltage ran slightly higher than the Zotac card - I never had any issues. You'll be fine.
