Did you try running it with the other psu without any RAM installed? If so, like Jetster said, nothing is going to happen. No PSU will ever make a machine boot if it doesn't have RAM installed.

Probably, but not impossible.

yep, OP, you definitely need to clean up the paste and redo it correctly or have someone else help you.

However, I noticed there seem to be no screws in the stand offs... you better check them and secure them in place, too. Because, if the board not aligned on them, it will short something, if they are metal stand offs.

As other people have said, way too much thermal paste! Could be causing a shortage or something if it's on the motherboard.
Look up on YouTube for tutorials on how to correctly apply paste; you should only apply two thin lines, three at the most. I then put my finger into a corner of a small plastic bag and spread the paste around evenly on the cooler.

I recommend taking the cooler off, and taking clear pics of both the cooler base and the processor prior to cleaning so we can see it. We'll be able to tell if the paste could have caused any damage.
cooler master paste is almost 100% non electrically conductive... white silicon paste on almost 90% or their products...
no electrical damage there by the paste...{excluding master gel }

It's the cooler master branded thermal paste you get with your hyper 212 evo. I used it on mine and it's fine.
is like ice fusion ....

I would have said that tube is/was good for 5 to 10 applications on a CPU depending on Application method

Well I hope it will still be fine. But from the pictures I would be amazed if none of the paste got into the socket.
Always do your research before trying something you haven't done. Hell when I was changing my stock cooler for the hyper 212 evo I watched a few videos on youtube.

Noobie mistakes. He'll learn. Worst case scenario this will be an expensive lesson learned the hard way for him. I don't know about anyone else but at least when I learn the hard way it sticks better than learning the easy way...

I've seen it pretty often at times actually. It happens when people don't read the instruction and just apply the whole thing. It is also in line with the concept: more the better.

With everything happening, I think it's best that he takes his PC to a shop. There are so many things that could go wrong now that it is ... quite honestly comical.

i truly understand the concept" the more ... the better" but entire tube??? thats why i cant believe, i have seen several wrong applications .. but not an entire tube....

the best option .... but im pretty sure that OP is going to try to fix it himself....

dear lord, the amount of thermal paste...
for the record this is no where near the desired amount of it:
a tiny bead of it like shown here:
is more than enough, as long as, after its spread by the cooler, it covers the center of the cpu you should be fine.

to add insult to injury (or the other way around), most silvery pastes are conductive, so there is a very high chance of the board and/or cpu being fubar. with some luck it might only have gotten in data pins and not power ones

as others have mentioned if you still want to try and fix this yourself you need to clean everything in the cpu area with alcohol (>95%) and when i say clean i mean _better than factory level clean_, the underside of the cpu must be spotless, you will have to clean the socket pins too (pretty sure there are some paste in there), just _dont_ brush them, rinse it with the alcohol (lots of it) untill clean, repeat _dont touch the pins_.

none of us are sure your motherboard or your CPU are defective/damaged , or if they can be saved
i am afraid that this probably falls outside your expertise to sort out and as mentioned above your best bet would be to take the parts to a pc shop and see if the resident IT Tech guy can clean / test your parts

Ok how do I know the mobo I'd not at fault.

The only reason I don't want to take it to shop is cuz they will rip me off. 70$ for diagnosis and 10$ per hour. I would rather buy a new mobo

The thing is that I am not quite sure what's wrong at this point. There are so many things that could have gone wrong already that, unless I or we take a look at the set up physically, it's hard to tell.

And of course they charge you. They are running a business, you know.

please dont

how do I know the mobo I'd not at fault
you clean everything properly, then test run each component

i would still highly recommend taking it to a computer shop, sure it might be expensive but so is buying a new board and ruin it again

both components might still be in working condition (cpu&mobo, with a bit of luck and proper cleaning), so buy a gallon of alcohol (95%+ pure, "medical grade") and rinse it good, no paste remaining

and dont rush stuff, read what others are replying, think before you act or you will only spend more money and still end up with a non working pc

Wow, I'm really struggling to understand how you could do that to a brand new processor and motherboard, I mean I'm not having a go here but damn, you don't spend $400 on a motherboard and core i5 proc and proceed to install without having either done it before or at the very least watching a tutorial... you need to clean all that shit up if you can and then reseat the processor and apply a pea sized amount! hoping it hasn't seeped down into the socket or your motherboards f**ked...

I have washed all the paste from the cpu and replaced with stock cooler so now I don't know. You guys are suggesting paste is in the socket. If I buy a new mobo I won't have that problem

have you even removed the CPU from the socket ""AFTER YOU SAY YOU HAVE
washed all the paste from the cpu
""

HAVE YOU INSPECTED THE SOCKET for paste or damaged pins

I've suggested a number of times to remove the CPU (once it's clean, evidently it has to be since you 'washed' it) and check to make sure there's no paste in the socket. We've said it's possible there is paste in the socket, not 100% sure that there is. You have to check this, otherwise you'll never know if that could be causing the problem or not. I'm not gonna suggest you do something for no reason just to have you jumping through hoops, you know.
