Please recommend an uninterruptible power supply

I am thinking of buying one ups for the protection of my main work rig. Trouble is I know next to nothing about these power supplies. My main rig is in my system spec. My budget is within $150. Meanwhile I will do some background research on the ups. Thanks!

What's your desired runtime? You'll need one at least able to deliver somewhere around 600 watts (I'd prefer 700) judging from your system. Maybe you can get away with less, but bottom line is any excess capacity will translate into a longer runtime. Most UPSes do not run long at 100% (mine does like 1-3 minutes), but if you just want to shut it down when the power goes out that's probably just fine with you.

I like Tripp Lite products, and based on your system would recomend a lower wattage version of the 900Watt Tower I use. 720W should be fine for you.

I wouldn't worry about pure sine wave with his usage case and the fact that his SuperFlower derived PSU will certainly not care. Just my 2 cents.

These units are the one I use and they have saved my butt a few times on different computers. They have provided instant power boost in a few momentary brownouts, as well as allowed me to shut down properly on power loss.

I've never used a cyberpower unit but have heard good things as well. Another solid choice I am sure.

I have a 2400w one (a lil more than I need, but lets just say I leave my rig, router, modem and a lamp connected to it)


Also the CyberPower ones aren't bad, also look into Tripp-Lite

My work PC has a CyberPower something or other UPS. We use them a lot and rarely have issues (other than the batteries not holding much of a charge after a number of cycles, but I think that's fairly normal).

I think my coworker has this one (or at least one like it). I'm jealous of the USB chargers on it, although I don't think they're particularly high amperage.

I have three CyberPower CP1350PFCLCD. No regrets.

I know the USB ports on it are 0.5amp max. Most modern devices charge with a lot more power. I generally plug the chargers that came with the devices into the back surge outlets.

The number of PSU failures I've had substantially declined after changing to pure sine. This is especially true of my server. It may be a coincidence but then again, it may not be.

I have the APC BackUPS Pro NS1080 and it's cool so far.

Had the BX1000G and it lasted 5 years with over 1000 power events. finslly had E06 relay weld error. I might be able to fix it myself some time when I have the care to do so....(kinda want another soldering proj for the fuck of it!)

Got the NS1080 for only 150 and it's been great so far since June.

I personally like APC but you do tend to pay a bit more for the name. Since that Cyberpower is 50% bigger for just $10 more, I would probably go for. And note it will give you plenty of headroom for at least 20 minutes of battery run time (perhaps double that if just doing normal tasks) while supporting all your network gear too.

Well it was one of the thread here that inspired me. That was your thread I assume?

The town I live doesn't have very stable power system. Constant service interruptions which led me to wanting an UPS.

It's 170 USD, so it's only reasonable if you can spare the extra 20 dollars.

It works pretty well. It can keep my machine up at idle 30-40 minutes or 10-20 under significant load depending on the task. The inverter can handle a little over 800-watts of draw. I've had it for several years and the battery is still rock solid, probably because I don't let it discharge all the way.

There are better UPS' out there but, I thought that this one fit my needs pretty well and I have been anything but disappointed.

Quick question. Has any one used Newegg's price match? Amazon is cheaper but it does collect quite a lot of sales tax. If only newegg can price match it would be awesome.
