AMD gave its premium small-factor gaming graphics card, the Radeon R9 Nano, its first major price cut. The card now starts at US $499, down from its launch price of $649. At $499, the R9 Nano is priced on par with its similar-performing albeit bigger and noisier sibling based on the "Fiji" silicon, the Radeon R9 Fury. The company's flagship single-GPU card, the R9 Fury X, remains at $599, its price was gradually reduced from its launch price of $649.

The three SKUs appear to be positioned to compete with NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 980, and offer cost-effective alternatives to the $629 GTX 980 Ti. Elsewhere in the lineup, the Radeon R9 390X starts at $379, and has its guns trained on the GTX 980 and GTX 970. Its smaller sibling, the Radeon R9 390 starts at $299.

I still need to see a review where the R9 Nano is liquid-cooled, and how it would perform against Fury and Fury X. If it goes in between those two, I'll get one.

I saw somewhere, where EK Predator with gpu addon was tested. It performed same as fury X...

Hey, that's not a bad deal at that price point. Before it was really to niche but not it has a decent spot with the performance it offers and the form factor.

Now the Fury just needs to drop to $449 and were all good.

Well if Crimson drivers continue to fix things and improve performance...these might be worth a more serious look...

Definitely has my interest, we shall see if I decide to buy a new card soon or wait until later this year...I'd have no problem going back to AMD for my main PC, the last time I did was an XFX HD5870 that lasted years and is still running for the dude I sold it to, was an excellent experience...and that was a card that didn't OC too far and had no voltage control, but it stayed cool and performed great.

Which makes it cheaper than the GTX 980... That makes it pretty good.

The Nano is a full Fiji chip. Clock for clock it'll perform identically to a Fury X. Indeed, it can be overclocked to stock Fury X speeds and beyond even on air.

Those prices are the funniest thing I've ever read. 649 and 599? uh...

I mean, I guess...

Thanks for the deal, XFX, but uh... check the normal prices.

Also... ASUS sells a white one? HUh?

Exchange is currently 30%, but that's still a deal compared to local prices. That's an actual $650. Thanks very much for the link.

If only they would quit fooling around a pack nano or X with proper air cooler... what's with the circus.

how it would perform against Fury and Fury X

Well I can tell you that on air with a 20% increase to power delivery it can match the Fury X's 1050 clock (and thus performance) and never throttle. Max temps hover around 68C with a gentle fan curve to 65%.

Nano must have been sitting on shelves, collecting dust. That said, I think this is a great move. It's just long overdue. I don't know why AMD sits around and shoots themselves in the foot like this. They did it with those "OEM-only", then "enthusiast-only" $500 CPU's based on FX chips that had been around for years. They did it with these Fury parts that are just not good enough to warrant the prices they're asking for. They were trashed at every price point by nVidia by some quick and savvy pricing. And when they were outmaneuvered, rather than adjust, they just stayed the course.

Why? Because they figured at least a few people would buy one at egregious pricing I guess?

They could have had relevance for months now if they'd just priced their stack this way from the beginning. It would have made news, made waves, and people would have actually bought more than a few Fury parts versus 980's.

They sold well enough to be low on stock for almost a month. People were buying so they were selling. Now that it's slowed down, and new tech is around the corner, they'll drop prices accordingly. And I think you misjudge how popular the other cards in the 300 series are, with the R9 380 and R9 390 both being touted as the best "bang for the buck" cards on offer at their price points.

I just wish these price drops would affect me, but the last time something got it's price dropped it didn't change a thing for me because the local shop has there own supply line and if they cant get it cheaper they wont drop their prices

Ya, I am always taken back a bit when I see the Canadian prices at Memory Express, which tends to be more than fair with their pricing. *cry*
