What happens without the patch? No dice at all? I can't remember how old NFS:HP is ... it's not *that* old is it? It's 2010! AHH, the 1998 version, NFS3:HP. I think I actually have the CD still!

Without my NextGen patch (or Evgeny's Modern Edition update), you'll be having hard time installing it, running it, if you manage to run it, you'll be getting infamous 1MB memory error (no progress will be saved), resolution will be limited to 800x600 and you'll have no wide screen support as well as missing certain effects (like projected headlights and environmental fog).

Unfortunately NFS4: High Stakes has a Modern Patch that I made, but is having problems on most Windows 10 systems. Should work fine on older though, like Windows XP, 7 and maybe even 8.x. At least it did back then.

I hope Evgeny will take time and reverse engineer NFS4:HS as well. One of my all time favorite games because it combines all the best stuff from NFS3, adds more on top and adds carrer mode. Which was difficult as hell but nice since it was a huge challenge.

I've actually tested on my system using NVIDIA DSR. 4K with 8xFSAA and 16xAF. It looked amazing while still running at 2000 fps :)

Just got news from Evgeny today. He's working on NFS3 Modern Patch version 1.4 which will deliver high performance 32bit rendering even under nGlide (currently it's limited to 16bit, same limit as with original Voodoo cards). 32bit should improve textures as well as quality of FSAA since it'll blend better.

Also, another great news, he started working on Need for Speed 4: High Stakes! I hope, once he's done with that, he'll be able to look into NFS5 Porsche. Which works fine in modern OS, he'd just have to figure out a fix for low quality textures (because hardware i so fast, game thinks it's too slow and degrades the quality automatically). We'll see :D

Is all I can say.

Gonna try this puppy out tonight, no sleep for me, no sir.

I had lots of fun re-playing this all my life, it was one of the reasons I kept old school Pentium II and III machines so I could run it flawlessly without issues. Me and my friend used to race each other on split-screen back in the day, and I would always win, now I feel bad for him 'cause I never let him win at all, lol. Ahh good memories.

would love a patch for NFS:Underground 1 - I loved driving around on an open map and racing random computer generated players.

I just played the first four levels in HP mode, and remembered the god awful sliding around steering and cheap arrests that stop your engine on purpose to stop you from trying to escape too early, doesn't happen when you try to arrest AI nuh uh.

One of the techno tracks sounded like Dune II music on drugs haha, but that's just my opinion. The music during races is quite unmemorable compared to what plays in menus (dat Romulus 3 :rockout:).

First Underground runs fine on Win 7/8.1 (I haven't tested if it works under Win10 after first major update which broke some games) and nothing seems broken, it does use the old 3D setup for something, not sure why anyone would use software rendering, I doubt anything can be improved on other than restoring environmental effects if the game has any, I think you can restore them easily with some software from Realtek, I don't think it works on non-Realtek sound chips though.

Here you go:

That game was my favorite along with UG2 and Most Wanted, after that well... Everyone knows what happened, "it" hasn't produced a game that I genuinely liked in over 10 years and Black Box is dead.

Yeah, menu music still makes my skin crawl when I hear it, but racing music is also pretty good. Aquilla 303, Hydrus 606 and Cetus 808 are one of my favorites.

I've uploaded a video of NFS3 with NextGen patch applied (it has Cetus 808 playing in the background)...

Unfortunately shitty Youtube video encoding destroyed any image quality in the video so it now looks like a god damn oil painting in motion. Ugh. It's doing such injustice to the game, because it looks gorgeous. I mean, this is 18 years old game! It was released 18 years ago! Yeah, it has aged really well.

Yeah, it destroys my GoPro videos from my motorcycle rides too. Distant objects just pop into existence moments before zipping by, compressed right out of the scene.
