While Swiftech launched their all-new Prestige AIOs, they have not forgotten the more value-oriented market either. Enter the H220 X2, which offers enthusiast quality water-cooling at a more attractive price. Having exceptional performance and expandability, it is definitely an attractive option.

Ugh, 120mm fans, in the age when most cases have room for 140mm.

Correct the H240 X2 / X2 Prestige are available as well which make use of a 280mm radiator

Seems to me that the cheap swiftech fans performs pretty much on par with the expensive much hyped extra thick NB eLoops. Quieter at max load and a only couple of degrees C worse. Yes eLoops are not worth the hefty price tag, not to me anyway.

@crazyeyesreaper

You need to reach out to corsair and get them to send you a H105, H100 or H110 so you can make better comparisons. The H80i really held its own though.

Older H240-X review vs Current H220 X2 review

H220 X2 is roughly on par with the H220 X both have the same price point but the 220 X2 is better built with extra features. The H105 is roughly on par but significantly louder. 45 vs 54.

I have an issue with this review (in fact, all reviews that involve large components). Because you tested it on an open testbed, we have no clue on how this thing would fit an average case or how easy or difficult it is to mount, and what issues one can run into during installation. Use a proper case. You're review is great for raw performance numbers, but it's useless for people who dont own giant cases that can fit anything.

i have a Nanoxia aka Fractal R5 basically fits fine. Enthoo Luxe fits fine.

for the most part install mobo in a case. install your ram and the Swiftech H220X2 will generally fit where standard 240mm AIOs will fit. It really is that simple.

Pump ./ res offset for ram.
radiator is standard 240mm rad with 25mm thick fans

so in terms of thickness while the res and pump will hang down as long as ram etc is installed to begin with its not an issue. Basically if a Corsair H105 will fit then 9 times out of 10 the Swiftech kit will fit.

If i did use a case i would just have people bitching because i didnt use the case they like.

To be honest not that hard to look at radiator specs and look at ones case and then use a tape measure / ruler.

Cases tend to list Radiator support now and Max CPU cooler height.

crazyeyesreaper, thanks for the review! It was pivotal in my decision to buy their cooler.

I was a little perplexed by some data in your research. I struggled to wrap my head around the fact the H220-X2 (prestige as well) and H240-X performed so close on the overclocked CPU test for OC AIDA64 FPU. Could you speculate or explain why these are so close? I figured the 240 with the larger area would perform better with OC. Do you think the static pressure advantage of the 120mm fans is responsible?

I have a 5930k, and 2x Titan X's (possibly another) I'd like to build into a WC setup. I have the H240-X2 (thanks to you ;), as well as a second 240 rad I'm looking to build into my Corsair Carbide 540 case. No OC, it's just for computation :)

Does anybody put 120mm fans on 140mm/280mm radiators because of the static pressure or am I just chasing my tail?

Difference is simple Skylake doesnt get hot enough.

CPU die size = small
CPU TDP = low

means heat does not transfer to the IHS as quickly especially due to TIM used. This means that while the CPU does run warm heat is not transferred to the H240X quick enough for it to truly stretch its legs.

on X99 that is likely different due to those CPUs using solder along with higher TDPs especially when overclocking. Thus the higher heat load allows the larger H240 to come out on top.

Ah, thanks! Re: 120mm fans on 280mm radiators like the H240-X2, does it make sense to swap the 140mm Helix fans for 120mm's to get more pressure (say something like the 120mm Enermax Twister Pressure)? Would that lower overall temps or does the trade off of lower CFM for higher static pressure cancel itself out?

Yep, definite case of tailchasingitis.

How are you going to mount 120mm fans to 140mm mounting holes? And what about the 10mm gap around the fans?

Hey guys! I'm looking into purchasing this cooler for my i7 4790k because my cryorig h7 isn't doing so well at all, what i wanna know is if i add a 120mm radiator to it will it be able to handle my 980ti aswell? Really need an answer cause if i go with a full custom loop it blows my budget to bits.

The pump should handle that without any issue. Just get a low restriction block and low restriction radiator and it will do just fine.

Depends on the system normally a 120mm of rad space per component is "enough" but normally overhead makes for a better cooled system for example CPU + Mid range gpu sure 240 will do okay but 360 rad gives extra room for hot days / overclocks etc.

That said It will work. The older designs from Swiftech were shown cooling CPu and GPU and doing okay. So It should be just fine. Just keep in mind temps won't be amazing.

Well im juggling what solution to go with and the cost difference between the two solutions is nearly $100 with the swiftech + alphacool evga GTX 970 FTW+ waterblock + additional hoses + additional clamps being the more expensive one (about $275, more if i go with the prestige). The other solution would likely be forward compatible with future cards so i wouldnt be stuck with a 970 waterblock, but is a tad more hodge-podge, that being a kraken G10 + h55 + vram and VRM heatsinks +thermal adhesive tape + 240mm AIO cooler for cpu (deepcool captain 240ex), which comes in at about $200 depending if i get the EX or non-EX Captain 240. Not sure what would be more effective or an overall better choice just yet.
