Dell Propreitary PSU ??

Hey Guys , I have found out from other threads that my Dell 7010 sff psu is propreitary and cant be replaced because no 3rd party psu of that measurement exists . I have done some measuring and think i can squeeze a 300w Be Quiet ! tfx in my sff case with some slight modification , now , IF i do manage to fit the new tfx into the case will it work ?? what i am asking is will it "fry the motherboard" or are the Dell connectors made for one PSU ony ???

I have a i5 3470 and no gpu as of yet , i know i could get a 750 ti low profile but i was ooking for some thing more powerful . My question is not what can i run ??? but more can i replace a "proprietary" psu with a 3rd party alternative and not run into major problems. Thanks.

If the size is right , connectors are standard and have enough power , I cant see why not And if the PSU has 4+4 pin connectors for the CPU .

TFX Power 2 300W Gold , has 288W max on +12V rail should be enough
Also it has 20+4 ATX mobo connector
and 4 pin CPU connector

So if the mobo has 4pin CPU requirement , that PSU should be fine (if can be fitted of course )

Just because it has a 24 pin connector, doesn't mean it is wired the same as a standard ATX motherboard.
Dell and H.P. used to have proprietary wiring.

if you have the 7010 SFF , we have the same PC, and it DOES have proprietary plugs, that connect the front headers, namely power bottom, reset switch,. iirc newegg DOES have dell optiplex SFF PSU's

i looked into doing this a while back, and after spending a decent amount of time on it, i came to the conclusion it just wasnt worth MY time. i like the PC to look nice, and not "cobbed" together, and there is a pretty serious risk when swapping in WAY oversized PSU's, GPU's, etc. What I did, (if you care) is i ended up buying an MSI LP750Ti, and it REALLY kicks games asses. I have NOT regretted making that decision. I found a few threads on other sites, where users DID make the decision to go ahead, and ended up with "custom" power switches, , and no USB front panel connectors. It MAY very well be do-able, but I would personally NOT recommend it.

Hey jboy , thanks again from the other thread , i just want to know if i try and squeeze in a more powerful tfx will it actually work or are the connectors etc incompatible . sorry for noobish questions just trying to ascertain if its possible .Thanks

look @ the ones i found on newegg to get an idea, they are "DELL marked"

i wouldnt mess with adding NON factory parts personally. that is my official advice. i loked into how "viable" thsi is, and it came to the conclusion of DONT. however "viable" is relative, maybe your willing to take the risk. i just wouldnt recommend it is all.

the 750Ti is plenty GPU for that PC IME, and it kicks ass.(if thats why u wanna change PSU)
i came to the conclusion that I would rather have what IS by no uncertain terms a decent gaming Rig. (i5-750Ti-8Gb's RAM-SSD/HDD-Win7) than a "frankensteins monster of jumbled cables, and "modded connections, and buttons" thisisnt the "make it better PC" its the I have it, just make peace with the fact that im stuck in a SFF case, and my next PC WONT be SFF too PC"

Ok jboy , youve convinced me to just go with the ti for now and wait and see what budget polaris/pascal low tdp offerings appear in the next year or so . Thanks again.

iirc, Here on TPU, i saw a post about the NEW 950(maybe Ti) i dont remember exactly, but i KNOW i read about the 950, so you COULD look for that, which as long as it is similar Power requirements to 750(and from what i read it IS indeed similar power requirements) , go with it instead, for a newer solution.

It is called GTX 950 SE and supposed to replace GTX 750 ti and should draw power from PCE-E slot only . Unfortunately it is not selling yet

i knew about the new 950's before i posted the thread i was trying to go a bit higher with a new PSU , also , from my research the new no 6 pin 950 mini requires 75w draw from pcie16 whereas the 750 ti low profile only requires 60 w . I figured that the 750 ti was on the line of what the stock dell psu could handle and the extra 15w draw from the 950 mini would send it over the edge . should i wait for the 950 mini and risk it ????

just go 750Ti, i saw it on sale on newegg a day or two ago, maybe it still is. i got the MSI LP version which was a little bit more, but is really nice.
