Hi guys, please i would like someone to assist, my Acer E1-571 came with a windows 8 OS and with a 128mb dedicated video memory. I upgraded it to windows 8.1 and now 10 but the dedicated video memory reduced to 32 mb. Is ther any way I can increase i back to its original 128mb? Ive been looking for answers but havent been succesful.

I think you can buy more RAM chips and put them on the graphic card like this?

Just kidding!

I believe for integrated GPU the dedicated size doesn't matter that much. It is just RAM being used as VRAM after all. I could be totally wrong.

You increase it in BIOS. If it's like other models.

thanks but there are games i used play but they dont seem to work any more since after the upgrade, while looking for what the cause could be, i found a reduction in the vram.

Your HD 3000 doesn't have dedicated video memory.

On Windows 10 the Intel driver will dynamically allocate memory as you start games, with no performance penalty. So no need for a big dedicated size.

You should be able to change the setting in your BIOS though

my BIOS cant be edited, i mean the video memory. and its a hd 4000. other settings can be edited but not the video memory

Your video memory is shared with your system ram for that card. It IS merely a setting, which would most likely be found in your bios.

Alternatively, updating your drivers to the latest intel graphics/chipset drivers may help too.

Have you looked in the BIOS for video settings?
Edit: late to the party.

the BIOS settings for the video memory is not editable. from the picture above you will see that its black while other editable options are blue.
And thanks to RTB i did the driver update as you said and it moved from 32mb to 64mb which is an improvement but it not yet at 128mb as when it came with the windows 8.

If you cant change it in the BIOS, then its always been that same number. The higher number you saw could have been a simple software error, reading the wrong amount previously. DXdiag thinks my 4GB video card is 16GB, for example.

i actually have that GPU in the shed.

Try hitting F2 once on the main BIOS screen, it may enable hidden settings.
Doesn't work in most BIOS's but does in some.

It probably had a program that allocated Ram for Vram and the 32 is the actual dedicated Vram all along

No integrated HD 3000 cards feature any dedicated VRAM. It's all shared.

I'm guessing there is a communication breakdown between your BIOS and the Win 10 OS. This may be due to a compatibility issue with your specific BIOS but I can't say that for sure. In that case the OS may just be defaulting to the minimum allocation because it didn't receive the minimum allocation information from the BIOS correctly.

That said you can’t change the settings, since the default Acer BIOS has the advanced settings locked (which includes the allocated video memory). You could try and ask Acer for the unlocked BIOS, but the chances you will get it are rather low. Beside that you can either search for an already unlocked version of your BIOS or mod it yourself.

If you can live with the current settings do so, if not it’s time to enter the dark shady world of BIOS modding OR just go back to W7/8.1.

ctrl-C and/or ctrl-F1 has been unlocking hidden stuff on gigabyte boards for me, for years now :D

what a day, i've tried all the f2, ctl-c, ctl-f1, but nothing seems to be working for me.
I think i'll go with 5DVX0130's advice and we go "BIOS modding"

Oh that picture takes me back. I actually picked up one of those ancient PCI cards for nothing and it was very useful for getting a picture on the screen when troubleshooting a PC back in the day.

Unfortunately, I don't think Intel bios modding tools even exist.

Your best bet is to update your drivers to the latest and hope it was just using Windows built in ones or something such. Otherwise, I don't think we can help short of downgrading.

Honestly, it'll just use system RAM to make up for the shortfall. Thats how IGP's work.

Even if you could give it 32GB of ram, it wouldnt perform faster or add any additional features.

Which is precisely why I think he needs to get a newer intel VGA driver (Windows 7 ones will work). He said some games stopped working that worked before, that wouldn't happen unless Windows 10 bumped him to some shitty generic driver.
