Maybe later, but for now I'd just like to know if armor can be repaired cheaper, and if it can be buffed in stats, not where to craft it. A LOT of fantasy RPGs have a multitude of armor with good stats, but often, most of it looks like crap, and can slow you down.

If you find any of the whetstones and armorer tables you can repair your gear for free.

I also only wore witcher gear...it just feels right.

Well, just got to Velen. Pretty sure I looted everything I could in White Orchard. You run into the edge of the world well before the edge of the shown map, so it kinda discourages exploring beyond the unknown locations shown.

So far I only have found 3 mutagens, and they're all green. My Vitality is buffed to 100% as a result, but I'm not sure what that means.

Whetstones and armor tablets ay? Sounds good, I'll have to search as to where to find them.

As for what to wear, the clown suits they offer to put you in when visiting the emperor in Velen are a prime example of what I'm talking about, and a lot of the armor is no better looking. Can't judge it all yet though, as I've not seen much armor so far.

BTW, went back to the starting chest piece because I found the armorer could improve it to a 30 rating. That's 2 points less than the clown armor I found, and still has no slots, but I'll take it. I'd rather look good than worry about 2 lousy points, esp on easy mode. Plus I'm not sure those slots are as useful as I first thought, because the runes only give a very slight chance of their buff.

You should also brew the Golden Oriole potion, it makes fighting enemies with poison or venom bearable (at higher difficulty levels especially.)

One you get to the greater level runes they add 10% per pop on things like sign intensity and damage. The upper level witcher gear has 3 slots a piece. The gloves and boots I think have two each. It starts to add up when you can plop an extra 30% damage or sign intensity on an item. Not to mention, when you level up quen, the damage your absorb with it can be transmitted back to the enemy and turned into health so sign intensity really helps out there.

Did a quick search for where to find whetstones and all I saw was talk about various repair kits. Apparently the Master's one is best, but I can't find any info on where to get the Gnomish Whetstone required to make it. Also haven't found any info on where to find repair kit diagrams of any kind, or if such a thing even exists.

Along the way I also read runes are most often found in monster nests, so I rechecked all 3 nests I destroyed in White Orchard, but I'd left nothing behind. I'm sure there will probably be bigger nests that are harder to destroy yielding better runes in other locations ahead.

I think I called them whetstones and I meant grindstones. Sorry about that. Look at the interactive map and select only armorer tables and grind stones. You often find them around Blacksmiths and Armorers although you will find some floating around other places. There is a grindstone at the blacksmith in white orchard and an armorer's table at the garrison.

EDIT: Here is hte link to the interactive map. It may show you some things you don't want to know the location of so be careful.

As far as I know armorer's table and grindstones does not repair our gear, just enhanced the armor rating and damage dealt.

Question about building sign and character, if I go with igni and add to character both Igni flamethrower and intensity igni, will be added as effect or it will be using only 1 of the 2?

IIRC, one is primary, the other is the alternate sign. Many of the signs have a primary use and an alternate use.

Igni intensity just increases Igni's base damage and chance to to burn enemies. The flamethrower (i'm going to assume you meant firestream) is Igni's alternate mode.

Unless something changed in the last 3 months, I do not remember them repairing in my two and a half playthroughs.. They could add benefits to weakened armor and weapons...like "magical" properties, but the underlying metal is still at whatever state it was before using workbench or grindstone.

Yeah, this. Repair kits are the only regular way. I keep forgetting to upkeep my swords and end up in monster fight with blunt weapons. PITA.

If people are on Blood and Wine, there's an awesome sword with a good background...

Arthurian legend style - great silver sword

sorry if someone's mentioned it already but I've not poured through thread recently.

Apologize for the bad video quality, just a quick record with FRAPS and re-encoded with Handbrake to lower the video size (crappy upload speed) :

Do any of you guys play Gwent? I ask because it's one of the tips given in a video I saw for leveling up. I'm not sure I can really get into playing it though, and I already passed on playing it at the inn at White Orchard, so missed a chance to get a card there.

I've not touched Gwent. If i wanted to play card games, I'd play cards.

I play it for the quests. I don't go out of my way to play it. It could be a could way to farm money early on.

Thanks for the video, I definitely stand corrected. I must have misunderstood what I read.

I play the sh*t out of Gwent :D

The card you missed is not a powerful card (although it can be a little bit helpful early game) so you can still get a lot of better cards from other locations.
BUT if you want to do a backtracking and get the card from the scholar, you can try to fast travel to Hanged Man's Tree marker and searched around the tree for a book, loot the book and you'll find the card. More detailed location (watch from 1:00 mark) :

If you missed to buy the cards from White Orchard's innkeeper (she'll be gone after you leave White Orchard) you can try to check the merchant that you saved from Griffin early in the game (he sets shop near the Woesong Bridge fast travel marker), he sell the cards that the innkeeper sold before.

OK, finally found the ONE blacksmith in White Orchard and now have the Viper Steel and Silver swords, as well as a Disglair Silver sword that is rated about 100 damage higher than the Viper silver, but I have to go from level 6 to 12 to use it. I had them crafted after I did the underground quest with Kiera, which I had to manage on a silver sword that was damaged down to mid 20s condition.

Some of the underground locations are just horrible when it comes to lighting. I immediately figured out you have to jump into the water to search for Ciri's horse sign on Kiera's quest, but it was so friggin dark, I had to raise in game gamma to 100%, and even my TV way up past 75%, just to see where to go underwater. That is pathetic if you ask me. Then you have all these dark areas with gas that explodes where it's too dangerous to use a torch. Yeah I know there's a potion to make you see better, but seriously, should I have to use a friggin potion every time I'm in a dark place?

Other annoyances are the game seems horrible for KB/M controls. This was one of Angry Joe's biggest gripes, even though he scored the PC version 10/10. My main problems control wise, are 1) Geralt often will put his sword away in the middle of battle, and I have to keep spamming 1 or 2 to draw it. Otherwise he's punching with fists like an idiot. 2) Geralt often won't hold his weapon in block position, even though I'm holding down RMB, this results in taking lots of damage. 3) annoyingly, sign selection will often change out of the blue from Igni to Quen or Avard. 4) Often time Z won't make Geralt lock onto one enemy, or when I want him to move freely, he'll move like he's locked on, even though he isn't.

Movement and action response in general is clumsy and slow. When he stops running, he keeps going when you stop and runs into things. He's slow and awkward at turning, doing large clumsy loops, and often times just pulling a weapon or using it feels like there's heavy input lag. I doubt it's frame rate, because the settings I'm at now yield mostly 60 FPS. Is it true that the game just sucks on KB/M, because if that's the case, it could be a deal breaker for me. There's a lot to like about this game, but on KB/M, there's also a lot to hate, and makes me think it's overrated. Plus CDPR themselves are touted as devs that care a lot about PC, but if they force you to use god awful gamepads just to get smooth controls, that doesn't appear to be the case to me.

In summary, the game's main flaws as I see it so far are:

1. The level designations are misleading. You can easily kill bandits 5 or 6 times your level early on, but some creatures only 3 times your level seem nearly invincible by comparison. Plus they start throwing 30 something level quests at you when most players are at best level 5-10. They even try to force a DLC quest that's rated level 33 when you get to Velen, supplanting a level 6 one with it.

2. Most armor early in the game looks terrible, but it's the only way to get ones with good stats and slots to use.

3. Weapons and armor damage too quickly, and repair kits are to rare and even the best ones only repair 40% of the damage.

4. Controls on KB/M are a joke. Movement is sluggish and clumsy, and response time of actions is too laggy.

5. Geralt often puts away his weapon in battle, and won't hold it in block position when he DOES have it in hand.

6. Sign selection often randomly changes out of the blue to something you've not equipped.

7. The lighting is not well balanced, esp in dark places. You shouldn't have to use a potion just to see in the dark, and I doubt they even thought it was necessary anyway, since I've never seen a hint for it. They clearly did not play test adequately for lighting on PC. Their gamma setting screen doesn't even work. The only time I see that image they talk about is when I click out of the screen, where it shows plainly for a brief moment.

So yeah, there's a lot to like about this game creativity and content wise, but these are also some serious problems that hamper gameplay experience a lot. Skyrim had no such problems. Sure it had it's bugs, but there were easy workarounds that once used, were a do it and forget it situation. The only slight annoyance for me with Skyrim, was some skills took a while to grind to level up, but even that was only if you were too impatient to spend many many hours of gameplay achieving the same thing, which many were OK with.

Yeah I know there's a potion to make you see better, but seriously, should I have to use a friggin potion every time I'm in a dark place?

Yes, or a torch. Most places are just dark, so torches are fine. Other places you may actually want flame...explosive gas comes in handy. :)

Is it true that the game just sucks on KB/M, because if that's the case,

No. Like I said, 2 and a half times on m/kb...just waiting to clear some new games before I finish. There is a little learning curve, but I found the game perfectly playable, and enjoyable on m/kb.

Yeah I'm aware of, have been using, and already mentioned the torch, but as I said, it's too dangerous to use exclusively for light in the mission with Kiera, due to the many areas with exploding gases. I also feel KB/M feel is relevant to what one is used to and OK with. Clearly there are flaws in that regard, ones that were not present in Skyrim.

To all whom have played on PC, esp with KB/M:
I'd like to get some feedback from anyone that has experienced the problem of Geralt randomly putting away his sword, not holding it in block position when he DOES hold it, and sign selection changing out of the blue.

Note I am playing the GOG version 1.22 with both DLC packs, so I'm pretty sure it's the latest with all patching.

I like the game, even more because it is not like Skyrim, don't need a clone of it, it is funny how I have to run(level 11) because a griffin of level 25 just started to follow me, also the location /quests are not so close on map than skyrim, feel more like in real life, as light underground part, feel more real in here than skyrim(I use the torch), I use very little to zero the block in combat, I am more aggresive combat type, no queen, igni+dodge+atack...it is just a game, if don't liked , just don't play...
