This would not do anything in my opinion

EDIT
PC can shutdown to Heat , Faulty ram,Hdd,Psu
Would start off by testing the hardware
  • Ram- memtest
  • Hdd- depends on the make eg ,seatool,wd diag or try hdd sentinel trail version
  • psu - always a pain to check if faulty - S&M stress test ,But i would normally open the psu checking if any burn or capacitors are damaged
Best to test a working PSU to rule it out

A week ago I did a memory test using windows tester. An HDD test using HDtune and as far as a PSU test I was unsure what software to use.

CrystalDiskInfo ?
GSmartControl is a far better utility for that kind of thing IMHO. It at least can initiate SMART diagnostics and read the results and error log. On top of that, at least it will convert the raw data to something more readable as well. An extended SMART test should find any issues with the drive if there are any.

I am downloading it now. I stopped the HDtune test to do so. It had 1 damaged sector on there when I stopped it. :/

It says completed with read failure. Odd that some programs say its fine and some dont. There are also 5 errors in the error log that were there before I even ran the scan. Cant make heads or tails out of them.

EDIT: Ran the test again with read failure.

1 sector pending reallocation isn't bad, so long as it doesn't start to increase. I have drives with 1, 2, or 3 but haven't had an issue.

Those DMA errors might indicate an issue with the connection between the hard drive and the motherboard. If it's a SATA drive, I would replace the SATA cable. If it's an IDE drive, I would attempt to replace the drive as I recall having numerous issues with IDE cables from being bent or something and it's best to give up on such an old technology.

Edit: On the same token, I do find it weird that both tests errored on the same LBA.

Do you have any other PSU to test with?

Regardless if he does or does not, should never run a system on a cheap PSU. Should be replaced anyways if it's the problem or not.

Sadly, I don't even have an extra sata cable to replace it with. But I will get one. And when I do do I rerun the test or will the error logs still be there from before? I am not stupid but when it comes to more advanced sectors of hard drives I am indeed ignorant to it.

I understand that. You are correct. And I am working on that. I am currently taking care of an eldery family member and I don't make any money doing this 24/7 job. So money doesnt come by a lot and I do what I can with what I have.

SMART will always hold on to the old errors and SMART results. I think they both store up to the last 5 errors or diagnostic runs but, you'll be able to tell which one is which based on the timestamp stored for the drive up-time.

Although now on the starting page of Gsmartcontrol it says my basic health test was passed. :/

Come on, a good brand PSU can't be that high price, surely he can spare 50$ for something decent.

not everyone can...i understand what your saying, but assuming someone has a certain amount of money to spend on "luxury" items is presumptuous IMO.

Do you have anything overclocked at all? What are your voltages for your cpu and gpu?

I ask because I've had the same issue and voltages were the cause.

Health based on START attributes can still be "healthy" even if a diagnostic fails for a reason that's not captured by an attribute. If you had an attribute for UDMA errors, it probably wouldn't be the case.

This too. If the MCH or the south bridge is running hot, that could cause issues as well but, I would expect more issues if it were.

Everything is stock. I am unable to change anything as far as my CPU voltage. My motheboard wont allow it. And i havent messed with my GPU at all. Seems to be 0.900v - 1.1v according to GPU-Z. But simply nothing has been changed by me.

I don't know why is that such a bad thing, he has a PC, as old as it is, that is a luxury no? Mentioning 50$ might have been a mistake, yet enough money for a PSU replacement should be had, some googling and I'm sure he can have something good well under 50$.

I don't know why is that such a bad thing

im not saying anything is bad about what You said.
all im saying is NOT everyone has extra money for upgrades.
im not saying your a bad person or anything, just pointing out that the OP may not have the $$ to replace, since if they DID, this thread would possibly not exsist, since it would have been replaced by now.
nothing personal

You are being very presumptuous and I'd appreciate it if you would stay out the thread unless you have something helpful to say. I heard what you thought the first time.
 Having that attitude isn't going to change the nature of your hardware problem, sorry dude and good luck.

Was meant to be deleted before it was seen. You are correct and I didn't want this thread to turn into that. But your presumptions anger me considering you have no idea exactly how wrong you are. You don't know my position and my hardships nor do I know yours. But I wouldn't make presumptions about you. I do feel there is something wrong with what you said. But I will leave it be in hopes this thread will return to figuring out my issue.

I've had this error when the psu wasn't strong enough current wise to power the system under heavy load. 80+ certification is worth the investment, you can snag some decent psu's for around 30+ dollars, sometimes cheaper with the mail in rebates off newegg. (430w/500w EVGA for instance). I know how it is to get by with what you have though, done it many times LOL! Could also be that the unit itself is no longer holding proper voltages (or current ripple), you could try putting it under load and checking with something like hwmonitor. I wouldn't run the OCCT psu test just in case something happens and you can't replace it.

As stated one sector pending allocation isn't too bad but that generally means they will start adding up over time. Best bet is running chkdsk c: /f /r (input drive letter/s for c. There's a program called HDD regenerator that has helped me in the past to fix these allocations but eventually i ended up zeroing the drives out with the diagnostic tools then putting the cloned drive image back on, just to be on the safe side. I'm having vertical line issues under load on a Powercolor 5750 on a Dell optiplex 755 w/ q6600, on stock 375w dell psu... might end up replacing it although it powered the 8800GT fine, sometimes computers just do weird things.

Good luck, and i hope you get it sorted out!
