Sounds like building a new rig (with the old video card for now)

Well maybe just hard drive and PSU replacement? I'd like to hear some others opinions. Because I certainly can't build a new rig.

or mobo + hdd , who knows for sure ?!

Basically they suggest an update of the motherboard BIOS .
Also might update the driver for the mobo/CPU/video card and etc .

Okay, so I have taken an old hard drive from a dell dimension and ran a test on that using the dell and it passed. Now the CD drive that was giving errors in event viewer was an IDE drive. So this hard drive is an IDE drive as well. I have unplugged that and plugged in this hard drive with a different cable. The one that it passed the test on. I suspected problems with that old CD drive anyways so I am about to run a test with it plugged into this mobo. So then we can rule out the IDE connector on the mobo. I have also changed which SATA port my orginal HDD was plugged into and will test that as well and come back in a few minutes with updates.

EDIT: Test still completed with read failure on the original HDD. The new HDD plugged into the IDE connector completed the same test without errors. So it was either a faulty CD drive or IDE cable.

After reading some other threads, its troubling that this has been happening since 2015 and the PSU hasnt died yet if it was failing.

I also unplugged the PC from an old old power surge directly to my wall outlet.

Also seeing some threads across google where people have fixed it just by changing the power options in control panel.

Possibly related to the drive being put into a low-power state by the OS and not getting enough power to function.

Thank you. I am going to remove all power saving nonsense in the settings. I will replace my PSU asap because it needs to be replaced regardless but I still want to narrow this down and make sure it isnt my motherboard mainly.

But power options make sense considering I have NEVER had this happen while im using the PC. Only in the middle of the night.

EDIT: Not sure what to put the advandced power settings at. The ''Turn off HDD after'' was on ''NEVER'' but I changed some things. I'd also like to rule out my HDD or the sata cord as an issue. Considering some tests say the health is fine but two won't complete due to read element error. I do get Kernel 7 saying my HDD has a bad block. Which it was saying the same for the CD drive. But that CD drive was old and I suspected it had errors anyways. But its odd both of em did. Im really hoping this isnt my motherboard.

CPU may be dying, has it ever been overclocked?
Adjusting voltage to the CPU in the BIOS may help, increase slightly if the BIOS has the option.
CD drives cannot have bad blocks, this should have been pointed out at the beginning, don't waste your time running a Hard Drive test on it.
If your H.D. has a bad block it might last indefinitely, or die tomorrow, better to get a new one, even a very cheap SSD will be lots better.

Motherboard sounds like it doesn't have voltage control, it's a growing thread but, that's been stated already.

I personally think that it could a number of things but, unfortunately the OP's budget is severely limited. I suspect there are some compatibility issues between the motherboard and Windows 10 given the warnings just prior to the restart. I would turn off sleep mode and all other power saving features other than speedstep and see where that gets you, @cameronh779 . It almost seems to me that it might be having issues when it attempts to go into a low power state like sleep or hibernation but, that's all I got.

I'm using W7 atm. But I have done those things and time will tell.

Never been overclocked and my board is locked no options to change voltages.

It says:

There is 1 weak sector found on the disk surface. It may be remapped any time in the later use of the disk.
At this point, warranty replacement of the disk is not yet possible, only if the health drops further.
It is recommended to examine the log of the disk regularly. All new problems found will be logged there.

EDIT: Short self test also failed because of read element.

  • "Short self test also failed because of read element" = Replace Hdd - Its an IDE drive to likely its on is way out
What is the health of hdd in harddrive sentinel?

I would replace the psu or test for a few day with know working unit - even a entry level psu will be fine - no need to spend big cash on 80+ units lets just get it working
Can upgrade Psu to 80+ on new build

Power supply are hard to test - only way is to replace and hope for the best
If able to open PSU and check if any damaged /leaking capacitors ?

  • "The device, \Device\Harddisk0\DR0, has a bad block." - Could be HDD with bad sectors / Or dvd rom
Or
When watching a movie on disk could be scratched on disk which is unable to read and skips a few frames

We would need just to verify of the harrdrive is "harddisk0"

The two faults seems to point to Hdd and Psu

Ops system is positively ancient
psu and HDD failure are primary causes
followed by ram or leaky caps some ware

the perf level warning are normal for a system of this vintage its just complaing about the lack of extended states

Can you explain this to me please? I know its an old system but its what I have to work with.

EDIT: Ram has been tested and I have also done a visual inspection of the motherboard. I will be replacing the PSU asap. As well as the HDD.

it just means that the cpu/bios is old and doesn't support the newer intel speedstep power saving stuff ignore it, its not related to anything
a flakey psu will cause all matter of wonky issues so will a bad hard drive

I recommend springing for a cheap SSD it will make all the difference on a system of that vintage

not worth attempting a bios update on such a old board

Would updating the BIOS possibly solve the issue? As I have noted it only happens in the middle of the night. I've NEVER had it happen while im actively using it. :/

It only seems as old as my G33, though the chipset is more dated.

He might actually be able to get a cheapo quad core working on it that would be a worthwhile upgrade on a budget.
