As OP title would appreciate comments on 2 images linked, no zoom just close up image of area, slight zoom in image of area.

Monitor is Asus MG279Q, 11 days old (this one :(, was not there on unbox/testing then) , gonna swap out with Amazon and not going Asus RMA but curious as to count of dead pixels. Asus warranty state this :-

In the fist image I was thinking there were three, then I saw the closer image and see only two.

Looks like five pixels maybe six have a defect to me.

I'm counting all the pixels that show missing RGB, some show red, and green muted or black. One pixel has no blue just red, and green.

I see 3 with the 2nd image in normal view. But when I click on it to zoom in even closer, there may be more.

I have never seen multiple dead pixels line up in a row like that. They have always been scattered randomly over the entire panel. So, to me anyway, there is definitely a problem. I'm just not sure it is dead pixels in the normal sense of the term.

Are you absolutely sure this defect was not there when you first used it?

You might be able to get a more accurate count using solid colors. See LCD DeadPixel Test.

If the pixels are truly dead, they cannot be fixed. But if just stuck, they some times can. We have had some limited success with PixelHealer.

That said, if Amazon has already accepted your claim and is issuing a RMA, I would not mess with it and just wait for the replacement.

@all

Cheers for comments :) , the dead pixel area is diagonal, ~1mm - 1.5mm in length, located ~ 5cm in from right bezel, centrally on vertical.

This is my 2nd MG279Q in 22 days of ownership :rolleyes: . I went through 3 Eizo FG2421 initially on purchase. 2 Dell U2515H initially on purchase. And to think my first ever flat panel was an el cheapo Samsung which 1st one delivered was fine and lasted 6yrs+ and now a friend is using it on his home CCTV system.

@Bill_Bright

Yeah, defo checked when unboxed it (thoroughly) ;) , if you asked my wife I'm an OCD "son of a gun" :laugh: . I did full screen single colour screen fills of various colours and viewed carefully. The photos are of white full screen using this site. I've tried JScreenFix on the area, as they seem dead to me I didn't hold much hope of them "sorting themselves out".

Why I started thread is I just can't seem to count the dead pixels accurately from photos. Measuring the diagonal roughly, without putting my metal ruler (has 0.5mm marks) on the screen, it's ~1mm - 1.5mm in length. So dividing that by pixel pitch (0.233) it's 4-6 pixels IMO. If the screen was not from Amazon I could easily imagine a RMA with another etailer or Asus turning into a "debacle".

Looks like 5 damaged pixels, all "dark dots." If even one of the three sub-pixels is damaged, the entire pixel is considered damaged. Regardless, sorry for your luck :ohwell:

Looks like a cut to me.

Confused by this, do you mean cut inner or outer side of panel. I noted issue last night, checked in daylight today and the surface of the screen is perfect.

Looks like 5 damaged pixels, all "dark dots." If even one of the three sub-pixels is damaged, the entire pixel is considered damaged. Regardless, sorry for your luck :ohwell:

Ahh yes I see that now after rereading warranty blurb. Hopefully as it will be my 3rd MG279Q I'll be lucky with it.

I got a replacement monitor from Amazon, has IPS glow much worse than the monitor which has dead pixels :( . These photos show exaggeration to issue, dead pixel monitor, replacement monitor, both screens at 15 for brightness, default is 90 (centre ghost image is me). The bright spot, top left near corner of replacement, I can see when using a dark background in OS or say dark scenes in a game with normal lighting in the evening, which TBH is unacceptable to me.

Just because I was curious what Asus support would say I rang them on the 24/10. Support guy thinks I'm on the cusp of RMA qualification. So the photo has been passed to another support team to answer if it would qualify for RMA. They suggested I RMA with Amazon, which I had not let on I had done as wished to see what they say.

OP, sir, you are cursed.

I've purchased over ten monitors and encountered only one monitor with 2 dead pixels.

I've also bought around 10 laptops during my lifespan so far and got only one laptop with 1 dead pixel in a very corner.

I think the delivery guy in his area has got something for OP and may intentionally be kicking the box before making the delivery.

@alucasa

Which monitor was yours?

The Eizo FG2421 I went through was not dead pixels but there was this halo effect to images. 3rd worked as it should, kept it over 1.5yrs and new owner very happy with it (TBH I'm missing it now). The Dell U2515H was basically 1st had non responsive touch sensitive buttons, you could spend up to 5min trying to get it to switch on or off. Image quality best screen I'd laid my eyes on TBH, both had some backlight bleed in top corner but not enough to bother me.

I think the delivery guy in his area has got something for OP and may intentionally be kicking the box before making the delivery.

:roll:

@Recon-UK

If I'd had the monitor 1-2 yrs I'd take dead pixels, but as it's so new and not a cheap screen then it is an issue ;) . Currently I'm debating if I should take a discount being offered on the monitor with dead pixels via Amazon. The dead pixels are so small and frankly out of the field of view in OS use and for gaming it's a non issue really IMO.

@Jetster

I'm on number 3 :roll:, it will be 4 next :twitch: (if I go down that route :D ).

@gupsterg

Totally agree to dead pixels and other minor problems not really being an issue, i never see any of it when i'm concentrating or am sat back enough enjoying a movie.

If the dead pixels were smack bang in the middle it may do my nut in for desktop use :oops: . Gaming I don't think so and agree I'd be more engrossed with the "gaming" than trying trying to pick out pixels.

As they are located ~5cm in from right bezel, about centrally on vertical, unless you really look for them you wouldn't know they're there. Due to res/screen size I never really have anything on desktop full screen, other than background, which again predominately can mask the pixels as well.

Be interesting to know what Asus state about the pixel count. TBH I think the MG279Q has a firmware glitch, all 3 have not displayed any output via DP on my HD 5850, not checked other port connections. First time had a monitor which has not worked on that rig.
