A single slot GTX 1070 with reasonable temps is possible, if designed right.
That mostly means using a crapton of copper

These really do nothing at all to impress me. I have seen far too many disparities between LN2 and Air OC'ing. Some cards overlclock crazy well on LN2, and then suck on air (And vica versa). Air and liquid OC is all that matters.
The only times LN2 is interesting is when they get it stable enough to run some gaming benches (But they never do). I wish they would do this more often so we could test silly questions like "Would a Fury X at 2000 MHz match a Titan XP?"

The 1070 in my laptop runs nice and cool. I repasted both the processor and gpu with liquid ultra TIM. Laptop runs quite for me.Haha the 1080's in laptops still use 180w, and they require fans as big as desktop cards.
Don't kid yourself - putting the 1080 in laptops is no way signifies an efficiency win, it simply means Nvidia thinks there is a market for laptops that are bigger than my desktop (And as stupid as it is, they may be right).

Another nice GTX 1070 option.
Apparently someone also pushed a GALAX GTX 1060 HOF to 3Ghz+ under LN2.

Aw hell yes. I would be really happy if we could get back to the GTX 8800 GT days of single-slot coolers!
No they don't. That majority of GPU cooling solutions were more than adequate for Maxwell 2 and are way overkill for Pascal. Thankfully some manufacturers are starting to wise up, which is why we're seeing single-fan GTX 1060s and single-slot GTX 1070s.
This is the first generation where the highest-end desktop GPU has been able to be put into a laptop, as opposed to using a lower-specced chip and rebadging it as an "m" or similar. If you don't think that's commendable progress, well, you're the one kidding yourself.
As for "bigger than my desktop": GTX 1070 in 2.4kg, GTX 1080 in 5.5kg, GTX 1080 in 5.85l. I guess your desktop must be made of air.
BTW, show me a laptop twith RX 480 in the same weight and performance level... oh wait, they don't exist. And the reason they don't exist is because RX 480 is a power-guzzling heat-emitting POS.

Not if you routinely clean your equipment....Give it 6 months and the thing is stacked full with dust. That small space is'nt doing good and will most likely as any other notebook CPU cooler become filled with dust.
