Last week I get myself a new GPU.....As I start doing some usual GPU testing smile on my face was still glowing and I felt like a kid in the candy-store....somewhere in between gaming, benchmarking and constant overclocking I realize how old I am and then I start to count all my previous 3d Accelerators...my brain almost refuse to accept that number especially when I remember that for a few years I had a brake from the PC-gaming.....To cut the chase here is my list below:

1)Diamond Viper V330
ViperV330.jpg

Video Card Specifications

Interface: AGP 1x / PCI 2.1
Chipset:
nVIDIA Riva 128
RAM:
4MB 100MHz SGRAM
Data Path:
128-bit
Horizontal Sync Signals:
31.5kHz - 108.5kHz
Vertical Refresh:
43.5Hz - 200Hz
RAMDAC:
230MHz
TV Output:
Yes (640 x 480)
Video Playback:
MPEG-1, Indeo, & Cinepak Supported
Supported Resolutions:
640 x 480 - 1600 x 1200
Supported Refresh Rates:
60 - 200 Hz

NVIDIA graciously accepted the challenge with their highly acclaimed Riva 128 chipset found in most of the first generation AGP video cards, and Diamond, the pioneers of the original Voodoofx. chipset backed nVIDIA up with their marketing know-how and well known name. Diamond, powered by the sheer force found in nVIDIA's Riva 128 chipset, managed to harness this immense mass of energy and called it the Diamond Viper V330.This was the card where I experience my first 3d hardware rendering and it was a real joy to play many popular games back then at the mid of ´90´s.....

2)Riva TNT
RivaTNT.jpg

Manufacturer: nVidia
Series: TNT
GPU: NV4
Release Date: 1998-03-23
Interface: AGP 2X
Core Clock: 90 MHz
Memory Clock: 110 MHz
Memory Bandwidth: 1.76 GB/sec
Shader Operations: 180 MOperations/sec
Pixel Fill Rate: 180 MPixels/sec
Texture Fill Rate: 180 MTexels/sec
Vertex Operations: 0 MVertices/sec
Framebuffer: 8 MB
Memory Type: SDR
Memory Bus Type: 128 (128 bit)
DirectX Compliance: 5.0
OpenGL Compliance: 1.0
PS/VS Version: N/A/N/A
Process: 350 nm

The best overall video accelerator money can buy, the Riva TNT is everything the Riva 128 was during its time, and more. Boasting outstanding performance on higher end systems, and above average image quality, the Riva TNT picks up where the 128 left off. Taking a complete 360 degree turn from their history, nVidia worked hard to ensure that the Riva TNT's usage of the AGP 2X specification was the best on the market, and this they did with incredible success.Well that was maybe the experience from some other ppl. I personally hate this card,as I remember due to the extreme heating I had poor gaming experience and just after few month I replaced for something waaay better.....

3)3DFX Voodo Banshee 16 mb
Banshee16Mb.jpg

Controller:

    • 3Dfx Voodoo BansheeTM
    • True 128-bit 3D, 2D and video
Bus Type:

    • AGP 1X
    • PCI 2.1
Memory:

    • PCI - 16MB 125MHz SDRAM fixed
    • AGP - 16MB 125MHz SGRAM fixed
Powerful RAMDAC

    • 250MHz
Horizontal Sync Signals:

    • 31.5KHz-108.5 KHz
Vertical Refresh:

    • 60-200 Hz
Maximum Dot (Pixel) Rate:

    • 250MHz RAMDAC
Video Playback:

    • AVI, MPEG-I
    • DVD, MPEG-2 (AGP model only)
Connectors:

    • DB-15 analog monitor connector (VESA DDC2B)
Cooling:

    • Chipset-mounted cooling fan
Monitors Supported:

    • Standard and Multi-frequency Analog Monitors
    • DDC2B Plug and Play
The Banshee is a completely integrated 2D/3D solution in a single package. This is an obvious deferral from the standard 3Dfx methodology of graphics accelerator production which normally calls for a separate 3D accelerator. For those of you that have been soured on 3Dfx's 2D/3D combo cards from the horrid days of the VoodooRush, the Banshee isn't going to give you the same problems you experienced with the Rush chipset. It fully supports Direct3D as well as Glide, meaning it will be able to run all of your current games that will work on 3Dfx based products virtually flawlessly.
This card was an absolute beast and it´s stayed with me for more then a 2 years,it was absoulute pleasure and enjoyment and back then represent probablly the very best bang for the buck...

After I sold my PC together with Voodoo Banshee I decide to make a brake from PC and I become a cosole peasant for a few years.....Yeah I know...I know...but it was easy as I travel back then and usually didn´t have a lot of space for usual pc parts....that´s change somewhere in mid 2004 and I get this card ATI 9250....Well it was nothing special to be honest and I broke it just after 6 month´s but as I buy new I manage to replace it and get the other one...I sold it to friend just after few more month of the usual abuse...

The 6600 series of GPUs (NV43) are based on the NV40 core architecture. The entire feature set from the 6800 line is carried over with only a few exceptions. First, the memory bandwidth of the card is cut from 256 down to 128. This should have a fairly large impact on AA/AF performance and other very graphics memory intensive operations.Still this card perform way better then 9250 and it was step in a good direction and my obsession to get 2x7600GT....

With the introduction of the 7600 GT, NVIDIA is hoping they have an X1600 XT killer on their hands. Not only is this part designed to perform better than a 6800 GS, but NVIDIA is hoping to keep it price competitive with ATI's upper midrange. So I get 2 of those card and tried SLI for the very first time....Well it was working sometimes but most of the time I experience horible stuterring and driver issues....it was a time to get back again to the team RED....

The delays and lack of a high end would be beyond perfect if the Radeon HD 2900 XT could do to NVIDIA what the G80 launch did to ATI, unfortunately the picture just isn't that rosy. ATI's latest and greatest doesn't exactly deliver the best performance per watt, so while it doesn't compete performance-wise with the GeForce 8800 GTX it requires more power. An ultra high end power requirement in a sub-$400 graphics card isn't exactly ideal. And yeah that was exactly what I experience in a firt few months....This card was huge, loud and HOT....I mean really HOT....and yeah I like to do some OC well because of that it was the end of my 2900xt as the screen just go black
I decide that was time to go back on team GREEN.....

Rather than actually create a midrange part based on G80, NVIDIA opted to tweak the core, shrink to a 65nm process, integrate the display engine, and come out with hardware that performed somewhere between the high end 8800 GTS and GTX (G92). While this, in itself, isn't remarkable, the fact that NVIDIA is pricing this card between $200 and $250 is. Essentially, we've been given a revised high end part at midrange prices. The resulting card, the 8800 GT, essentially cannibalizes a large chunk of NVIDIA's own DX10 class hardware lineup. Needless to say, it also further puts AMD's 2900 XT to shame.Ohhh boy this was the card that I really pushed to the limit when it comes to the OC but this GPU also push my CPU beyond the limits....and yes finally i could play CRYSIS like a boss :)..

As compared to the 5870, AMD has disabled two of the SIMDs and reduced the core clock from 850MHz to 725Mhz. This is roughly a 15% drop in clock speed and a 10% reduction in SIMD capacity, for a combined theoretical performance difference of 23%. Meanwhile the memory clock has been dropped from 1.2GHz to 1GHz, for a 17% overall reduction. Notably the ROP count has not been reduced, so the 5850 doesn’t lose as much rasterizing power as it does everything else, once again being 15% due to the drop in clock speed. It was a step forward from 8800 GT but soon as my warranty expired card melt down....still price performance ratio made me to buy again ATI card I mean AMD as ATI decide to sold their soul to the AMD.......

The middle child of the family, it will be the basis of AMD’s $250+ enthusiast segment Radeon HD 7800 series. In a nutshell, take Cape Verde (7700) and double it, and you have Pitcairn. Pitcairn has twice the number of CUs, twice the number of ROPs, twice the memory bandwidth, and of particular importance twice as many geometry engines on the frontend. This card make my life easy,it was a great overcklocker didn´t spent a lot of power and it was cold as Ice after 2 years of abuse I sold it and get used fire pro card before I make a switch again to the team GREEN....

With nothing between GK104 and GK107 at the moment, NVIDIA is pushing out one more desktop product based on GK104 in order to bring Kepler to the performance market.
All things considered the GTX 660 Ti is extremely similar to the GTX 670. The base clock is the same, the boost clock is the same, the memory clock is the same, and even the number of shaders is the same. In fact there’s only a single significant difference between the GTX 670 and GTX 660 Ti: the GTX 660 Ti surrenders one of GK104’s four ROP/L2/Memory clusters, reducing it from a 32 ROP, 512KB L2, 4 memory channel part to a 24 ROP, 384KB L2, 3 memory channel part.It was overall really good card and my introduction in the 3x monitor setup and HI res gaming, serve me well for 8 month and I sold it for almost same money I spent on this used card....

To cut right to the chase then, for better or worse all of the numbered parts – 360, 370, 380, and the 390 series – are refresh products based on existing AMD GPUs. The only new GPU AMD is launching for desktop video cards is Fiji for the Fury parts, which leads us to the current situatio...Ahhh this card didn´t manage to get under my skin and just after 3 days I get rid off it and add few more bucks for this little bugger

Other than the disabled CUs, the Polaris 10 GPU used in RX 470 is otherwise identical to RX 480. Importantly, this means that all 32 ROPs are present and enabled. Doing the usual paper napkin math then, at maximum rated clockspeeds this puts RX 470’s shader/texture/compute performance at around 85% of RX 480’s, and geometry/ROP throughput at 95% of RX 480’s.As for feeding RX 470, with all 32 ROPs intact, so is the full 256-bit memory bus. AMD is pairing the card with 4GB of GDDR5 clocked at 6.6Gbps. This gives RX 470 94% of RX 480 4GB’s memory bandwidth. So far so good this card still keeps smile on my"old"face and keeps me awake due long nights of gaming&benchmarking......

That was my GPU retrospective what is yours?

Had to laugh at that inaccurate Statement
3DFX Designed and pioneered their own chipset
Diamond were only a AIB Customer
Well 3dfx released its Voodoo Graphics chip in 1996. The company manufactured only the chips and some reference boards, and initially did not sell any product to consumers; rather, it acted as an OEM supplier for graphics card companies, which designed, manufactured, marketed, and sold their own graphics cards including the Voodoo chipset. The Voodoo1 was 3dfx’s first jump in to the PC business and a daring one it was. On August 5th 1996 the Diamond Monster 3D appeared on dealers shelves....so srry that statement was accurate.....

.so srry statement was correct.....
na not in this world

Founded in 1994 by Ross Smith, Gary Tarolli and Scott Sellers (all former employees of Silicon Graphics Inc.) with backing from Gordie Campbell's TechFarm, 3dfx released its Voodoo Graphics chip in 1996. The company manufactured only the chips and some reference boards, and initially did not sell any product to consumers; rather, it acted as an OEM supplier for graphics card companies, which designed, manufactured, marketed, and sold their own graphics cards including the Voodoo chipset.

Their Chipset ( 3DFX) They pioneered it Developed it then licenced it to 3rd Partys such as Diamond
So in the GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS DIAMOND DID NOT PIONEER THE VOODOO CHIPSET

so your still misinformed and wrong

Ps you would make a good Patent Troll ( misinterpreting others Peoples patented ideas and Assigned IP to another Company )

Well that was exactly what I said.........but you get confused so srry......Actually to be more precise Orchid Technologies became the first vender to supply Voodoo Graphics cards to the consumer market, close behind Orchid's release onto the market was Diamond Multimedia with their Diamond Monster,so to be more precise Orchid and Diamond was the pioneers of the original Voodoofx....

Yeah got myself the diamond monster back then at roughly the same price as a GTX1080 today.
I believe that price back then was somewhere around 300$....

your the confused one !!
If you Invent, develop, manufacture and Supply To OEM's then your the Pioneer
AIB's Are just the Retail market Front
Diamond were not the inventor /developer/manafacture or pioneer
They Bought in the 3DFX manufactured Parts and Built Cards to market to the public

Dude, chill out pls..... Pioneer means that you are one who is first or among the earliest in any field of inquiry, enterprise,or progress so there is really no need to get upset OK because Diamond was exactly that in my sentance....other then this If you don´t like the thread then go&read something else or even better make your own thread..........

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
What was Diamond first in? Weren't they among other AIB's working with 3DFX to source the cards? Its like saying MSI was the first to come out with the 1080, when its NVIDIA making it (selling it to AIBs like MSI). MSI didn't pioneer the 1080, they, along with other AIB's like ASUS, Giga, and EVGA, are a buyer of the product from NVIDIA. Same with Diamond and 3DFX.

Was Diamond exclusive in the market at that time (no other AIB's)? I don't understand what they pioneered... :)

Sorry.. I digress.

So both Orchid and Diamond are the first AIB's to use 3DFX's hardware and sell it to the consumer. Gotcha. Not sure how that is Pioneering anything but someone else's stuff, but... hey. I understand your thought process anyway. I'll stop splitting hairs over the curious word choice, lol! :)

Normally I'd just forget about it, but I've just had a delicious dinner with moose, potatoes and red wine so here goes: you are actually in the wrong here. 3dFX are the ones we remember, not Diamond.

(I had a Diamond brand card and remember it, but that is irrelevant)

Also coffee with some coconut liqour in it, and then I'll have good rum. I don't remember the name of the wine because all wine of the same colour taste the same, only more or less (i e better or worse). I also had a normally very decent local beer (Höga Kusten) but that didn't really go with the garlic.
