Took 1.65v to make her boot @ 5.3 GHZ lol but she's stable on Heaven :)

Stock on these is 4.0 GHZ

No Windows Hardware errors reported on HWINFO64 yet -- often these appear before a PRIME95 failure :)

Which means should still be strong enough to get some quick 3dmark benches in :)

Even got it running with all the power-saving featured fully enabled. :)

Vcore

Min 0.903 v
Max 1.640 v

I gave my 8350 setup to my son 2 years ago , he says it's still running strong.

At only 1.45v that's decent like :)

My ##### took 1.65v to get there lol

Only idling at 130 watts though and mobo VRM is still cold :)

Don't think I should risk a PRIME95 at this voltage, would just be silly...

My mobo lacks fancy O/C settings, with basic multiplier + voltage array, several power saving features & OEM boot features that you'd find on a DELL.

Don't know what else can be done.... I'm on an ASROCK mobo with an 8-phase VRM which I believe is only a 4 phase with doublers!

Could probably get a bit more out the memory at this speed if I enter timings manually but beyond that, I've reached the limits, on this oldie lol.

lol :-(

Well at least after I upgrade to ZEN I'll still have fond memories of chugging along on a 33% overclock at 5.3 GHZ.

In ten years time, when the lithography is so small and overclocking is a thing of the past; this will be what counts when recalling my FX days :)

Lithography won't prevent overclocking. You will always be able to push more out of things.

I think he is right, there will a day where you won't be able to OC at all.

There will always be variance in silicon and people will always exploit that.

many years ago i had a Pentium 4 630 running at 4.6GHz. that's more than a 50% OC. it actually did pretty well when compared to the top cards at the time. it was matching or passing FX 57 scores.

I almost managed a validated OC on my 3420m with a 100% OC.

Almost.. Good temps with that chiller.

Those were the days ... I think I remember running an 1.8Ghz Athlon somethingsomething at 3.6, for a 100% OC.

Either that or I'm dementing and remembering things that never happened ...

My 8350 needs 1.5v just to stay stable at 4.6GHz. :( And it is already pushing the limit of my H80i...

I had a Celeron D 352 that I got to 4.68GHz, could never quite get it to 4.7GHz though I constantly tried! It was a pretty decent performer at those speeds, I even used it to game on for a while. Then I got a Pentium D 805 to play with, and had it to 4.0GHz which was impressive for that chip.

I wish, heck I'd even just like to put a 240mm AIO in there, but the case only has room for a single 120mm rad at the back. Unfortunately, I've decided to not put anymore money into the 8350. It just isn't powerful enough for what I do with it anymore. So I'm trying to save up some and upgrade to a 2011-v3 and a Xeon. I need more cores!

No material is perfect. Quality will never be identical, there will still be binning and variances in whatever substrate is used.

And? The FX CPU dates from 2012 and the 6700K is a 2016 CPU which is a rebadged Skylake CPU which is just a slightly improved Broadwell CPU which is just a slightly improved Haswell CPU.
