NVIDIA Cuts Price of its GeForce GTX 1080 Graphics Card: $499

In the wake of its $699 GeForce GTX 1080 Ti enthusiast-segment graphics card launch, NVIDIA lowered the pricing of its previous GeForce "Pascal" flagship, the GeForce GTX 1080, which is now down to USD $499, from its launch price of $599 (custom-design baseline pricing). The GTX 1070 is unflinched for now, from its $349 baseline pricing. This launch should turn up the heat on AMD, with its HBM-powered Radeon RX Vega pricing, much in the same way the GTX 980 Ti steered pricing of the Radeon R9 Fury X.

If nvidia sets the MSRP at 699 its not their problem if retailers set the price higher because a market analysis tells them that people will pay it.

Suggested, not stipulated. It means this is what the manufacturer/brand holder recommends, but cannot enforce. I personally paid US$820 for my 1080 FE back in June when it launched. I don't regret it per se, but of course a small part of me feels that "ouch"

Oh, and 314mm^2 one for "mere" 500$.

I think this means that Nvidia anticipates that AMD will price Vega at either $500 or $650 depending on whether it's as fast as the 1080 or closer to the 1080 Ti.

It also means that Nvidia is planning for the absolute worst case scenario that Vega really is as fast as the Titan X Pascal.

Alternatively they've milked their loyal fanbase enough atm, so they're being a little benevolent.
Though it has to be said that AMD not releasing Vega allowed this to happen, but AMD also had to deal with Ryzen & the consoles so there's that.

Well, imagine how people who just bought Titan for 1199$ feel.

Market was ready for 800-900$ price. "Faster than Titan" at that price would still be accepted eagerly. Yet they went with 700$ cannibalizing their own 1200$ card. There must be a reason.

Bought a gtx1080 zotac amp extreme last week for 710 Euros. I'd be surprised to see it go for 600 euros when these price cuts kick in. That said, im quite surprised to see they are confident the 1080ti is so much faster than the non-Ti version. Should I arleady start regreting buying the card?

Are you covered by a 14 day right of return in your country? If so, I'd return it.

It is essentially Titan chip with some tweaks for the price of 1080.

Neh, is nVidia's fault 100% for not supplying enough GPU's on the starting sale date. Is only natural when you supply a limited amount of cards to retailers, those would jack up the prices because of high demand. All retailers are greedy bastards!

I got my Palit Jetstream GTX1080 for £550.00 brand new on Amazon about 2 months ago and still have no complaints with the price really.

I still feel that for how good the card is that its worth it - It eats every game up, overclocks to 2ghz easily and is virtually silent!

Faux MSRP + FE was invented by nVidia, we shouldn't blame resellers for it.

But I guess we need to thank the inevitable AMD Vega for the price drops.
