Works fine now. I managed to get into the moderation queue, deleted some spam and now things are back to normal for me. Strange.

I'm glad it wasn't just me going mad when I reported that intermittent server hangup yesterday and kicked off this discussion.

Given the length of time we've been seeing intermittent technical glitches, there's apparently some deep-seated gremlin in the system which is resisting all efforts to flush it out. Let's hope W1z can nail it soon.

Anyone else noticing the forums being a bit slower than usual now?
I've tried other sites and they load pretty much straight away, but TPU the wheels spin for a few seconds and I even get a blank white page while it has thinking time.

Haven't noticed any differences here. Can you do a traceroute to www.techpowerup.com and post the result here?

I keep getting the response, "unable to resolve target system name"
But I am connected and the pages do load slowly.
Edit, I tried a ping request and got the message could not find host etc.

It's probably not this, but have you tried clearing your browser cache or using another browser?

I clear it at least once a day, but I think Windows updates may be playing some part in this, as last night I had a massive security roll up install for W7.

Yeah, so did I and it demanded a restart too. TPU still works ok though.

Do you have another PC to try? If a laptop, then perhaps try it through your home network and then tethered to your smartphone to see if there's a difference.

I tried a laptop, still the same issue, ran a tracert and got the same message, "unable to resolve target system name"

try google DNS, if that doesnt help its likely an ISP issue.

Shame, because that would have told us if the problem was with your ISP or router, which is where I suspect the problem lies.

Can I not convince you to try it briefly? It will use hardly any data.

I'm currently accessing TPU via my smartphone and work's network on a PC where it's fine on both, so it does sound like a router/ISP issue for you.

OK, I'm tethered through my phone and it's back to being snappy again on the laptop, it seems the issue is then with my ISP.
Thanks for the assistance, I guess I'll leave it until tomorrow and see if it improves, we have been having torrential rain here for a while which seems to affect the connection. :toast:

Rain - soil - earth path /resistance can all affect the quality of your signal

looks like i may have spoken too soon, getting sluggish responses on my end too now.... connected via highspeed fiber , & ethernet direct to router.... clicking "post" button when posting can take up to 20 seconds, hopefully juts a temp thing.. only site is TPU, no other issues i have noticed on other sites.

speeds look fine, slower than normal, but still highly acceptable for browsing..

Any chance of implementing a post review time limit/Mod Approval regarding New members and their necroing old threads
Similer to the Restriction in the Buy /sell Thread.
Along the lines of Mod pre-viewing and Approving such posts

I don't see what all the rage is about with so called "necro-ing"! Threads are left open so that others may use previous topics to address issues they may run into. I find it cleaner to allow members to address older threads than to have multiple threads on the same exact topic. I also find it bad form of the members who are drawn into such threads, and rather than being helpful, decide the best course of action it to attack new members who are doing nothing wrong as far as rules here are concerned! Just my personal take on the matter. Also, there is a fair warning to all of these threads, as you do have an extra check to have to go through telling said members that the thread is past its prime.

I agree. Sometimes they are legitimate and sometimes they are not. Instead of attacking the poster of "necroing" an old thread, just report it and let us sort it out.

I keep seeing intermittent server hangups today. It might be the work internet access though, as I've heard that there are some issues with it today.

EDIT: I haven't seen any other websites affected like this though.
