Hmmm, that 3d mark firestrike score is on par with my hardware (i5 + GTX1070)

What graphics card was used in this testing?

Oh I like this, I like this a lot.
I wonder, would the scores/FPS be higher with a Fury X or something, since I've heard there are possibly some issues with Nvidia's drivers and Ryzen.

Nope, the only issue I can think of is the memory speed this guy used ( 2400Mhz ), Ryzen scales really nicely with higher memory speeds.

For this price/performance, I can comfortably say:

I'm really getting sick of this low RAM frequency crap. I did a lot of searching yesterday for MBs that support Ryzen with 3200 RAM, and only found the ASUS ROG Crosshair VI Hero to reliably support it, which costs $330. There's a sub $200 Giga Aorus that is supposed to, but most say it doesn't in actual testing.

Worse yet even on the ASUS board there is only certain RAM guaranteed to work at 3200 with Ryzen, like the G Skill Flare X, which is over $180 for a 2x8GB kit.

I'm sorry guys but this CCX stuff is reminding me of Core 2 Quad at this point. It's as if this design is not a true dedicated 8 core CPU due to the boost mode lowering active cores, and ongoing CCX latency problems crippling it, and the only workaround has you spending about $300 extra to fix it.

So are you really paying $330 for a Ryzen 1700, or $630? It's looking like the higher end Ryzens are overpriced 2x4s at this point.

Try the ASRock X370 Taichi that @cadaveca was recommending. HardwareCanucks just posted their review, and tested at different DDR4 speeds.

The on-board Realtek ALC1220 on the Asrock Taichi:

no need for a dedicated soundcard.

roflcakes at that result. Someone @ HWC eats the ASRock pie a bit too much. There is only one way to get a 100 db result, and doing so pretty much gives the same on any board.

Yeah I actually prefer the Realtek ALC1220, since discovering it supports DTS like ALC1150, but DDR3? Seriously, is that a typo?

Can you tell me what RAM he was using? I see that the MB you're referring to was on MIR for $185, but the only one on Newegg confirming he got 3200 RAM speed had a $225 kit of RAM. The RAM kit Hardware Canucks used was $180 at Newegg and just under $150 at Jet when it WAS available, but I don't see anyone carrying it now.

Also, they only tested the 1800x in that review. It would have made more sense to test the OCing ability on a 1700, especially on a MB in that price range.

Still though, the MB looks interesting. I'm going to see if I can find any other Ryzen reviews on it at 3200, especially with a 1700.

ME?

I use these kits @ 3200 C14. And yes, not cheap, unfortunately.

Also worth noting I don't use all four sticks from the four-stick kits, only two. Which two doesn't matter though.

HWC likely used a 16 GB kit (half of my kit) of the F4-3200C14Q-32GTZSW.

OK, thanks, not a good sign when the only RAM that will work at 3200 is a single brand that's priced pretty high.

Still though, that MB looks nice, but I couldn't find a single review on it with a 1700.

There is other brands that work fine as well (Corsair.) Samsung IC (B-die) are the DDR4 sticks your on the lookout for, and single rank.

Mine with 1700X is coming soon. But no 1700, sorry. I doubt many will choose such a combo (but they should!)

And yeah, getting 3200 does require expensive ram, and it doesn't really matter what brand you choose... all brands sell sticks with the required Samsung B-die for a premium, because those ICs do what no others can (like 3200 14-14-14-34 for example).

That's AMD's fault though... same story with any board.

Um... what the heck is going on here? Why is there a difference between the R5 and the R7? Aren't they effectively the same chip with the R5 having some cores disabled? You'd think they would be neck-and-neck across the board but that's not so. Why?

The GSkill DDR4 -3200 with the tighter timings (C14-14-14) might be worth the price increase but maybe the Corsair sticks can run with the timings tightened up though? Pricing for the Corsair is tempting however.
Yeah I looked at that too, think it was at least $175, but hard to find in stock. It might be more stable at a 4GHz OC on a 1700 though, which is what I'm considering.

Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 kit works at 3200 Mhz and cost $134, with my Gigabyte AB350 Gaming.
Only thing that not the best is the timings 16-18-18 but does work.
