Well you get free 5-6 frames from this new bios and, yes I know you can this from OC but most people don't like to filddle around with it, so prety much you get free boost just doing flashing your bios.
Anyone else see the irony? :slap:

Look my RX 480 running at Stock (rx 580 bios), no changes done on Power Limit.. It's runs perfectly stabe, no heat... But at the same time this is my normal temps with RX 480 under OC, the only thing is i got more Power Consuption Overclocked.. The rx 580 bios is what you see here while running firestrike, have done it 2 mn ago..

Do not forget the new Bios(rx 580) for your RX 480 is already one OC. You have now plus more +50 Power Limit, i give it 2 days for it burn... Only if your it's diferent, i got one Reference Card, and if i place +20Power Limit my VRM goes until 91 c ! No Power Limit will stay at 72c max... I can imagine your's at +50 Power Limit!

And i changed the Original Thermal pads for a better ones, and Liquid thermal paste for the GPU...

Those temps i got at stock with this bios is the same as me under RX 480 Overclocked.. So i'm kinda change it to original or not.. Power Consuption is less now, but Heat is kinda more at least for my VRM... The gpu not seems to be the inssue..

by increasing the power limit by 20% on the normal rx480 bios you are extending the power limit. the new bios allows those limits to go even further if the user desires. so the result is going to be more heat. i went over heat concerns and such in the first post as i try to encourage anyone interested in the mod to completely read threw. i found that most heat issues can be corrected by creating a more aggressive fan profile. this cured the heat problem after flashing my brothers sapphire rx470 reference edition to an rx570. hes now at 1350 core and 1825 mem. stays well under 78c. i got the rx470 to rx570 mod from here http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=413958 this is just an example i also cured my heat issues using the fan profile. i would also recommend that you try out the fan profile settings i listed and report back. i would be curious to see if its still an issue for you. im not trying to sound like an ass. its just that i tried to make it clear that if heat is an issue in the first post try the custom fan profile settings i provided. if it does not help in your case i will attempt to address this issue on reference style cards.

My Fan is connected directly to the PSU by one original adapter of the aftermarket Cooler ( Artic Twin Turbo) xD So it's always at 100%... My Lucky is a quieter cooler, no noise at full speed.. Not having the fan connect to the Grafics card is less 20 ~30 W Power Consuption :) It's why i'm saying if i got those tems with the card modded, i cannot imagine people with original coolers staying at good temps, at least Reference Cards with Blower Coolers. (I'm not original English so i hope you understand xD )

I know right? I read that post earlier and was thinking that's the most senseless thing ever. After days and days troubleshooting ,and driver finagling ,& screwing around with bios editing. And it's easier than sliding two bars to the right on MSI afterburner!!??:shadedshu::roll::nutkick:

Oh and don't forget the whole possibly bricking your card part too :slap:. It's like inventing a Rube Goldberg machine to run your video card it literally couldn't be harder.

not that im against perf increasing, but dont claim its for those who cant be bothered with Overclocking that traditional way because this is "easier"

OK, just finished testing this on my XFX RX 480. This is a reference design that I purchased on launch day last year. I've been running the XFX RX 480 BE BIOS ever since and it's rock stable at 1328 MHz with +50 powertune. Gave this BIOS (Sapphire.RX580.8192.170320.rom) a try. I had to use "$ ATIWinflash.exe -f -p 0 bios.rom" with a privilege-escalated cmd.exe in order to get around the vendor ID mismatch. Afterwards, it rebooted fine and I reset the Crimson driver settings to default. Ran through a few tests of Furmark. No problems at all. Ran through one test of superposition at 1080p medium and, while it didn't crash, I thought I noticed a momentary visual corruption at one point. I chalked it up to a fluke. Next, I went to 3DMark FireStrike and I definitely noticed a momentary visual corruption. A minute later the benchmark crashed. So, unfortunately, this is not stable on my XFX RS 480.

Incidentally, my ASIC quality is 83.2%.

I've already gone back to the XFX RX 480 BE 1328 BIOS but I'm wondering if I might have better luck with the XFX RX 580 BIOS?

Ok so my last judgment on this about Flash my Reference card for RX 580...

My card is a reference, purchased when got avaliable on the market here in Portugal... Stock Speed 1288Mhz/2000 ( Tuned by XFX )

http://xfxforce.com/en-us/products/amd-radeon-rx-400-series/rx480xxx-rx-480m8bfa6

I had this Sapphire bios ( 1411/2000 ) but few minutes ago changed for the XFX 580 unverifyed bios ( 1430 / 2000 )... Booted to the windows, but had to lower the clock. Because looks like my cards the Sweet Spot is 1400Mhz.. For some reason near 1420 ~1450 got some glitches on the image, no matter what voltage or power limit i add to it. The bios is the same as the
Gumby had up there.

Start fireStrike ( 1400 / 2100) and the first thing i noticed it was the clock throttling, so i pump up the Power Limit to +50 lol Surprise! 70c VRM max Temperature... So looking at my data before, +20 Power Limit on Sapphire bios had 91c ! And look at that Power Consuption xD it's so hungry now haha
BiosXFX.png

xfx580.gif

My main problem comes at FireStrike Grafics Points, 14350 ???

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/19445287?

Editing my original bios (RX 480) for 1400/2100 i got less a bit of power consuption and even more Grafics Points!

15k http://www.3dmark.com/fs/12359610

So at least for me, i do not see any benefit on doing this... Sapphire Bios more VRM heat less Power Consuption more Firestrike Points, XFX bios a LOT power consuption less VRM heat less firestrike Points..

But can be all some bad readings from the sensors...

I will stick with my Rx 480 Moded bios xD Looks like... It was a good experience xD

I have same Card as yours, same problems, but MSI bios was the best in all terms, did you try it?
Arghhh no :( What diference did you notice more? My problems is really the comparison between benchmarks.. If i got less with the New Bios no sense for me to keep it...

I already place my old Bios :D

I got almost 13000 at Fire Strike with Tessellation ON, no tweaking, @ 1411MHZ Clock. Give it a tri, you have better cooling than I, you should do better.

-12mv and still stable, now my power draw comes down from 2xxw to 192.2w in the same game, watch dogs 2.
Using Sapphire Nitro+ rx580 bios in XFX RS rx480

edit: -12mv was my best undervolting it, at -18 its stable but only for 10 minuts..

I decided to flash my XFX RX 480 GTR Black Edition card with the Gigabyte RX 580 Gaming card bios from this site. I wanted an RX 580 that was as close to being compatible to my card as possible. Both cards have similar boost clocks, both cards have one 8 pin power connector, and they both have 3 display ports, 1 HDMI port, and 1 DVI Port. To begin the process, I downloaded the rx580 flash files attachment from page one of this thread, unzipped it to the desktop, downloaded the gigabyte rx 580 bios file, renamed it rx580.rom and copied the renamed file into the unzip folder overwriting the existing file. I then double clicked on the bios flash.bat file in the rx580 flash files folder that was unzipped to the desktop and the process completed successfully. The next thing I did was to reboot into windows 10 safe mode after the flash and uninstall all the old RX 480 drivers using a program called Display Driver Uninstaller that I already had installed on my computer. I rebooted my system, and then installed the RX 580 drivers I downloaded from AMD’s website. The entire process went off without a hitch and there were no issues with any of my display ports. I ran a series of benchmarks (Fire Strike, Time Spy, and Heaven). So far the highest stable overclock I could reach was 1405 MHZ at 1.20 Volts (1200mv), which is the limit imposed by AMD Wattman for the RX 580. Thanks to
TonybonJoby for putting together such an easy to follow set of instructions.

Why GPU-Z and MSI AFTERBURNER, reads different watt draw? In gpuz i max at 193w and in afterburner i max at 133w...

Thank you to everyone on this forum! I am very satisfied with my end results. The GPU clock is not too high (about what it was with the default BIOS and OC), but the memory clock is the fastest I have ever been able to pump out. Any higher than 2190MHz results in loss in performance and instability. Also, the wattage draw has substantially reduced to levels before the RX 480 BIOS (edit from 580). Again, this is the RX 580 Red Devil 1355MHz Quiet OC BIOS on an RX 480 Red Devil. I may try to push the GPU clock a bit, but I am very happy with the increase in performance!

13k Overwall or just Grafics Score? What matters for me is the Grafics Score xD I got more with my RX 480 Bios edited than RX 580 bios.
