ASUS, through its ROG (Republic of Gamers)brand, has started teasing what is to be one of the first Ryzen-powered gaming laptops. Other than Ryzen's circular orange logo and the ROG brand, the video doesn't offer any specifics of what hardware rests under the hood. The clip includes the words "something has awakened," and the post is accompanied by the hashtag #Computex2017.

There are a number of things this teaser could mean. Ryzen and Vega-powered APUs aren't expected for some time, but this could be a teaser for an advance announcement for such a product taking place in Computex. The other, more likely scenario, is that ASUS will be making use of AMD's recently-announced Ryzen mobile solutions, though this would mean launch of this laptop will take place closer to the end of the year.

I'm assuming Zen+Polaris APU's are planned sooner?

Zen+Vega APUs* :)

Recheck last screenshot, still they are Q4 i think :(

Do you think even lowest end APU's (E series) will use Vega core? Would be nice, but I find that a bit unlikely...

How about a ryzen 7 1700, 65 tdp, we have seen some laptops with desktop extreme CPU's , so why not ryzen?
Combine that with a good g.card, and you got a beast for productivity and gaming.

Did not expect this "raven ridge" to roll out this early. A 40% gpu increase is not that great considering how long Kaveri has been out.
This will only be about 2400 on Firestrike.
Not a great sign for Vega.

That's what I thought of too. An 8-core laptop would be beastly...

Vega 10 and Vega 11 are chips, Vega itself is just an architecture, the next generation of GCN basically. These APUs will be using Vega cores on the same die as the processor. No reason to use Polaris cores when Vega will have better performance and efficiency.

Zen based APU is most likely. A mobile CPU with no GPU is not going to be able to post long battery life numbers. Only a select few extreme gaming laptops ignore the iGPU, most use it for non gaming purposes.

Look at battery life of gaming laptops before iGPUs and switchable graphics were a thing. they were a fraction of what they are now.

Most likely a 35 watt quad core zen+640, 704, or 768 core GPU based on either vega or polaris.

The "50% more CPU performance" looks pretty unpromising, considering 7th Gen APU is only around 1/3 the performance of an i7 mobile quad core. A 50% boost can't bring it anywhere close to opponent offerings, so how can it make its way into an ROG?

because people are unwittingly sleeping when it comes to Ryzen and its capabilities.... things will be tuned and performance will get recognition.

Maybe because AMD have upped their game recently.. I guess you haven't been keeping up with current events.. :)

I'm just saying what AMD claims on the slide is unpromising. Performance of desktop Ryzens is completely irrelevant to the discussion. It's on the AMD slide in this page where it says "50% more" than "7TH GEN APU" (Bristol Ridge), which is plain bad.

How is AMD's own claim regarding Ryzen Mobile ("50% more than 7th Gen APU") relevant to what people think of Ryzen, at all?

I can say this, we will see won't we. I agree to disagree. Welcome to TPU

Have some simple discussion, can't we? If Intel had claimed the latest Core "50% more than Core 2 Quad", that also sounds incompetent, no matter how good other Core i7 are/how people think of Intel/if people agree or disagree, etc.
