Patriot Unveils the Singe and Spark SSDs

Patriot Memory unveiled its Singe series performance-segment SATA SSD, and its Spark series external SSD at Computex 2017. Built in the 7 mm-thick 2.5-inch form-factor, the drives take advantage of the SATA 6 Gbps interface. The Spark, on the other hand, features 5 Gbps USB 3.0 interface. The company didn't talk about the NAND flash type or even the controller, but focused on their performance figures.

The Singe comes in 240 GB and 480 GB capacities, and offers sequential transfer speeds of up to 555 MB/s reads, with up to 500 MB/s writes, and up to 70,000 IOPS 4K random read/write performance. The Spark, on the other hand, comes in a wider variety of capacities - 120 GB, 240 GB, 480 GB, and 960 GB; and offers performance of up to 465 MB/s reads, with up to 460 MB/s writes. It uses a single cable for both power and host connectivity.

So, they don't mention the Nand type, the cache type or size, the controller, or the estimate of TB that can be written.

It sounds like they made a lot of conscious decisions to hold back information.

Not much info about these ssd's, dosent matter i have those ssd i ned for now and either way my next ssd is m.2 more for sure.

But singe and spark, i see where this is going. But ditten they forgot a name? Like flame or something maybe thats up next for there m.2 models

There was another brand TPU reviewed and it was called SCORCH...roflmao......people were saying how these drives really don't need fancy cooling on the chips....lol..... I think the naming convention of late suggest otherwise.

Until they update the SATA system to revision 3.2 which is suppose to have 16 Gb/s throughput instead of 6 Gb/s, there is nothing to see or know about any of these drives. They are just yearly refreshes often with no real change beyond a catchy name and who is giving them the best prices for NAND and controller at the time.

Funny, just looked closely at the Singe....it doesn't match what Patriot said. It has a power AND a SATA cable. I'm guessing that single cable only applies to the Spark.

Patriot made Pyro a few years back.

Being an external drive it most likely uses a USB 3.1 cable.
