12 GB is 384 bit, isn't it? :)
He means the memory speed, not the bus width.

Cut-down 1080Ti would be an interestin product, 10GB 320-bit? And some shaders diabled of course.

OT: I'll just start laughing when I see the MSRP of this card and what it actually retails for, then proceed to cry myself to sleep as I remind myself on the pricing that's 100 euros more over the MSRP for a year old card, plus the fact that Vega 56 in my country costs almost 800 euros a piece. FML.

Oh and people are buying those cards for that price, they're sold out. 750-800 euros for what is almost supposed to be now a mid-range card in 2017. What f***ed up world is this.

Guys in US are lucky since price changes come and go way faster. I have to wait a year for any significant change in pricing to make something even remotely a worthy buy. A lot happens in a year, but some like to stagnate prices and stock for some stupid reason.

Pascal refresh was probably the best move for nvidia, they did say Volta was gonna cost too much for them and their current cards are still kicking anything AMD has right now.

In Denmark which usually charge one of the highest average prices for GFXes in EU the price for a 56 is 3190 DKK (429 EURO) if you can wait till 29 sept. or 3690 (495 EURO) DKK now. Maybe that is due to our exceedingly high electricprices driving the lust for mining down (I dont know), but 800 euros is crazy imo!

I can't see myself buying anything less than 3072 cores and 12 Gbps memory 320bit bus. 1070 is 3/4 of GP104 much like GTX 760 was compared to GTX 770. We need the GTX 780 equivalent now.

Now you're comparing a year in which Nvidia actually had competition in this segment with the current situation, this is not being realistic :)

They'll probably EOL the 1080, in order to clear stocks in time for Volta early next year.
You might be the last to know: there is no Volta early next year. Nvidia said about a month ago they are sitting on and will do some refreshing of Pascal next year.

Jensen said nothing about next year, he was just talking about this year and holiday season especially. Volta most probably will be out in Q1/18, just because of declining sales of pascal cards and some competition on amd side. Release gap between gtx980ti and gtx1080 was little less than a year. GTX1080ti were released 10.3.2017 so keeping that gap volta gv104 would be out in March 2018.

Jensen Huang said:
"Volta for gaming, we haven't announced anything. And all I can say is that our pipeline is filled with some exciting new toys for the gamers, and we have some really exciting new technology to offer them in the pipeline. But for the holiday season for the foreseeable future, I think Pascal is just unbeatable,"

I would hope by the time Scorpio is released, the PC has something that dwarfs consoles... and not merely surpasses it.

edit: Err... wait, that's coming out in Nov. Nevermind. I guess this isn't happening.

in the UK vega 56 prices seem to be roughly on a par with 1080 prices..

i cant see much point in a 1070 "refresh" it will only cannibalize 1080 sales.. unless they intend to "refresh" the lot just for the hell of it.. :)

Keep dreaming. They have zero reason to release it. That's why he said that, something he never says in between models.

If you want to believe, by all means, go ahead, I can't stop you.

nVidia is really putting the squeeze on AMD. They don't even want to give up the performance advantage to AMD at the Vega 56/GTX1070 level. nVidia really plays hardball. LOL

Good for you nVidia.

Please post your sources. I don't think he said that at all.

Performance and competition point, yeah sure they don't have reasons to release it. Maybe I should not add my own view of things about Volta and just correct your point with partial quote.

Nvidia said about a month ago they are sitting on and will do some refreshing of Pascal next year.

Jensen said nothing about next year, he was just talking about this year and holiday season especially.

But they are very business minded company, and releasing new and exciting new toys will drive sales forward. So my main point is If Pascal does not keep selling well anymore in q4/17 release gv104 gaming cards in Q1/18 and when sales of that stagnate release gv102 gaming card to holiday season 18. That way they will get maximum profit from their Volta line up: why on earth they should wait for competition, when you can get more profit out of your tech by being first in the market.

Agreed but pride of nVidia is hurt because of Vega 56 being better in gaming (crushing their GPus in computing is another topic not relevant here).

I mean true, it's negligibly better, but, come on now...

Good for you nVidia.

It would be nice if AMD took a few lessons from that sometime, wouldn't it... This starts with architecture and design - Nvidia can cut their GPU in any way shape or form, AMD is stuck with all sorts of junk that is half useful for the product's primary purpose.

1080 stayed 1080, only had 11gbps added to it cause the core configuration stayed the same. If nvidia gives you a better version of their GP104 core, they WILL brag about it in the name so no one could miss that.

Right, and they could to "GTX 1070 Core 2048"
As they did with the G80 GTS, like I posted earlier.

That was like a century ago. "Ti" in x80Ti has been standing for slightly cut version of the full die, would be reasonable to expect 1070Ti.

I love AMD as I always fight for the under dog, but Nvidia just seems to get it right with their GPU's with balance of performance and power draw compared to AMD... I hope the price will be close to MSRP, I know I can dream too:)

So they are trying to make it a little bit more competitive with Vega 56. Seems to me it was already close enough to the 1080 that this will just make the 1080 pointless (IMHO). Would prefer a 1060ti or something like that in the middle over this as some of the gaps on that area of cards is huge.

With the already narrow gap between 1070 and 1080 performance wise, I see this hurting their sales for one of the cards.
