The Datamancer Diviner is a full size keyboard featuring their often imitated, but never duplicated typewriter-style keycaps. Aiming to look at home in the Victorian era, it features a thick wooden case, ornaments and jewels that are tasteful, and some nice functionality courtesy of its DIP switches that allow for multiple keyboard layouts.

I mean, the base keyboard inside goes for $150 itself. But yeah, it's for a select few :)

That's Datamancer's intention here- providing peripherals and monitors that some see as art.

It's ghastly.

I wish steampunk would die.

Besides, seeing the cherry mx mechanism under the ill fitting circular key caps defeats the purpose. A proper design would overcome that visually jarring feature.

I wish steampunk would die.

Bad steampunk.

Anyway, I like and support the existance of this, but I find it not being nice enough. Had they dropped the retro thing (and done something different with the raisers, what were they thinking there?) and gone for something modernish it would have been better.

Nobody's interested in this keyboard! Who's gonna pay $500 for a keyboard?

You would be surprised. I have seen some people pay nearly this much for keycaps, and sometimes even a single keycap.

Bad steampunk.

There are other models, and this is the least expensive as of now.

I am pretty sure they have a $1000 model that Linus trashed on TechTips.

@VSG, yes there are people who spend this much and more, but usually on a real classics, like NOS IBM Model M keyboards. No one buys a Cherry switch equiped keyboard for $500.

Most of the ones I have seen are indeed Cherry MX switch keyboards, or clones thereof. Custom korean keyboards, or unique/rare keycaps, for example.

500$ is not that crazy, but it would need to be really good keyboard with really nice caps and custom cable on top of it.

Which, this kinda isnt.

For this kind of money it should be done quite a lot better. Would start with that cable.

Looks great, but I think that round keycaps aren't for fast-paced gaming. Also with that price, you can get five good "basic" keyboards.

Someone went out of his mind and suggest that people may buy a no features keyboard for 500%. I thought that is crazy but I went to their website and found that 500$ for a keyboard best used as a decor is their most sane option. Go to their site to see a mouse worth 30$ sold for 550$, a 100$ keyboard sold for 1650$, a 100 - 200$ monitor sold for 2600$.

That's exactly the point. Only those who enjoy the aesthetic are going to get the most from it. For them, the premium price is a non-issue. Even the perceived difficulties in functionality are a secondary and adaptable concern. People used to type effectively on typewriters styled in such a way, so part of the experience is learning how it was done. While I personally would never buy such a device, I know people who would and they will enjoy it greatly. Things like this are literally works of art.

Anyone who fails to understand the time and craftsmanship needed to create such objects[and the costs that go along with such], fails to understand the subject, it's audience and have clearly never done any serious woodworking.

People with that kind of money seldom have it from being stupid.

....sides no matter how rich or poor we are we all have had that " ...well that was stupid" afterthought after a purchase...
