Hey all,

So I damaged a classmates laptop today (kind of)..

It's pretty bad. I poked 2 screws up towards the keyboard plate (the surface surrounds the laptop keyboard and touchpad) enough to pince it up a bit but not fully pierce it.

Anyone know where I'd find such a replacement piece for an Asus x541u?

If buying one locally is an issue, you can always get one from China:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/GZE...X541SC-X541SA-English-laptop/32832153947.html

Just remember, that the keyboard is held in place with melted plastic pins. You need to break it away first, and then use hot glue or a strong adhesive tape to hold it in place.
If there is an ODD cover, like on x551, then you should also remove it carefully and glue it back in place afterwards (it prevents KB from wobbling). Don't just peel it away like in those stupid youtube videos.

might need to just replace the KB,

sorry , if your UK?

if you need the Whole deal, with the molding, its HERE

theyre generally pretty cheap, atleast cheap enough to replace the whole deal

Yes I wasn't sure what the proper terminology was. I need the molding that goes around the keyboard sorry, not the metal section..

I need the plastic part surrounding the keyboard, not the metal underneath it. Sorry to be confusing, I really just don't know what to properly look up for such an item.

Palmrest or top case is the word. It's not gonna be as cheap as just a keyboard, though...
It should be compatible w/ x540s[sa] model, and maybe w/ x551 series (not sure on that one, may have different screw holes)

I'll have to look into it more. Hopefully I find something. Not the best feeling wrecking someone's laptop like that.

you'll need to just buy the whole thing IMO. its like $10.00 anyway. you can get the whole top for cheap. whenever my family or friends, come to me with a laptop KB that they "upgraded" with Chocolate milk, or a long island ice tea, i just order the whole KB & molding area, and inset it. The link i posted in my first reply should be exactly what you need, i know it is for that Laptop atleast.

Two issues. I'm Canadian (lol/no shipping from the link you gave), 2nd, the one you linked has an offset on the power button location. On the x541u the power button is at the top right location of the keyboard as shown in the attached photo.

Am I SOL? Anyone have any luck with other legitimate laptop replacement vendors? I really want to make things right.

Might be worth reaching out to Asus and see if they are willing to help you source the part or supply it themselves. They might not be willing to help though so just keep that in mind

to save you some trouble, the item number your looking for is
13NB0CG3AP1302 / 13N0-ULA0B02

i think this is the EXACT part

its up to You to find it in your country , sorry:rolleyes: . the link i posted DOES ship to Canada

it looks exactly the same as the pic you posted, but it aint cheap

EDIT
As long as you still have a working touchpad then the following link is for under $40 and has everything else but you have to reuse the touchpad that's currently on the laptop.

Link the below item is in the UK, but it sells for around $15 usd, and ships over here to Namerica for around $13usd, its still cheaper than the above option

I must be blind as I can not see the damage.....a heat gun and some force on the opposite side of the area in question and a drop of glue in the left over divots (seeing as how the divots will be on the inside of the laptop) maybe all that is needed.

Random photo off the internet of the exact make/model. On the model there are 2 screws on the bottom panel of the laptop that are near the touchpad. Not thinking, and thinking the screws were all the same size, I went to town and screwed two long screws in the wrong holes, forcing two minor piercings on the visible surface.

He said not to worry about it but me being me, I would like to repay what I damaged. I was thinking of trying a heat gun perhaps, it didn't poke a hole through, just pinced it up quite a bit. I just worry it could damage more parts if I'm not careful or make it worse.

Those holes aren't really a big deal, if it's not pierced through the chassis. I've done that myself several times on older HP and Lenovo laptops (fortunately those were mine, and not someone's).
Just buy him a nice wireless mouse instead, or something useful.

J, that's a rubber keyboard cover
