Intel CEO Brian Kzarnich announced on Monday to its employees that as part of the company's continued strife towards better communication and consideration of its customers, the creation of a new internal group was necessary. The move comes after considerable media and tech industry turmoil after news broke out on Intel's 10-year product stack being almost completely vulnerable to some specific exploits. The Intel Product Assurance and Security group will be headed by Intel HR chief Leslie Culbertson, who will have on her team the former Vice President and General manager of Intel's New Technology Group, Josh Walden, who was, alongside Steve Smith, Intel Vice President and General Manager of its Data Center Engineering group, pulled from his current functions to work under Culbertson.

"It is critical that we continue to work with the industry, to excel at customer satisfaction, to act with uncompromising integrity, and to achieve the highest standards of excellences," Krzanich told employees in a memo Monday, obtained by The Oregonian/OregonLive. "Simply put, I want to ensure we continue to respond appropriately, diligently, and with a customer-first attitude."

Read about this yesterday already. Would have to beg the question, isn't security testing already a part of the design process? Is there now only the need to put together a group to tackle this, or are they just now the recipients of this current turn of events, and the future home of security issues? (Looks around the room..... Who could use a new change of pace?)

The timing of this makes the whole story completely surreal.

I don't see how this announcement is helping them in any way really. When CEO's start acting like they've seen the light, you need to be on your toes.

Exactly. If anything it solidifies the fact that their shareholders/board are quite a bit unsettled by this, and something like this is needed to provide reassurance. AKA, it's not a sweep under the rug issues like it's being spun.

Probably doing this on advice from their lawyers. They need to be able to say that they were proactive in resolving the vulnerabilities in their CPU designs and working towards making sure this doesn't happen again. They already have 3 class action lawsuits hanging over their head. If this doesn't blow over there could be more.

Makes you wonder why the Coffee Lake release was pushed up from the Q1-Q2 2018 release.

Good side of this whole fiasco is that both AMD and Intel will pay WAY more attention about security in ALL their products.

"Intel Product Assurance and Security" most likely means an elevated quality control / internal audit. It's typical management stuff, not something technical like data security.
I understand that :) I was more trying to point out that these positions seem to appoint people who may or may not have the proper background.

If this is a team that is a reaction to Spectre and Meltdown, and this is Intel's official answer. They better damn well have some brains behind the operation, and not just PR.

They are ashamed that only its "Core" series are affected and wish to include more diversity, branching out and making sure that ALL processor types including the minority "Atom"
series are fully represented.

...usual steps will be followed:

1. The Proactive concern sound and dance with a overlay of smoke and mirrors
2. Behind the scene selection of the sacrificial goose
3. Departure/reorganization/reshuffling/new vision for the future speach
4. actually fix the problem by:
5. new "safer" cpu/ new "safer" architecture/ new "safer" chipset new "safer upgraded" revenue stream

Damage control, and weak attempt to reassure future customers that they will be more responsible next time!

Raja Kaduri must be a jinx.....

As funny as I think that is - and it is - this problem with Meltdown and Spectre goes back LONG before Intel's...acquisition of Raja... Although, somebody correct me if I'm wrong but, didn't he work at Intel once before, before joining AMD?

So...maybe he is a jinx LMAO

People's current position doesn't mean that area is all they know or what their background is. In today's world, management must be multi-dimensional and multi-disciplined to remain relevant.

Actually she's more than suitable for the role:
https://newsroom.intel.com/biography/leslie-s-culbertson/

And she looks like a female twin of Ozzy Osbourne.

Thanks for looking that up!

I hope their first move is to remove the Intel MEI otherwise it's just gonna cause more trouble in the future.
