lets stay helpful

mentioning op isnt on Mobile isnt helpful? i was just mentioning it. id say that using a laptop to determine how a desktop environment handles a given program or game is not a suitable approach imo,

16 GB has been a common normal for the last few years. 8gb min, 16gb safe.

Anybody who builds a computer to minimum specifications is either on a very tight budget and going to upgrade later or a poor planner

im watching netflix, and have 3 tabs open in FF.

Could not agree more, i went 8GB sammy's about 3 year ago when i got my 3770 and the odd game then was hitting high ram usage, Arma 3 being one of them ( at the time ) so i got more samsung ram for both system's so it never be a issue.

Surly keep Task manager open to monitor the usage at the very least

im not saying RAM is the issue to be clear. just pointing out in that post that 8Gb's isnt always sufficient these days.
im leaning towards a settign or other software related issue.

I almost hit 5 GB just running world community grid and fire fox
But I'm running DDR3 and maybe there's a difference for other users using DDR4 I can't say

In use or cached ?, there is a difference. but yeah this system no games one tab is hitting 2.7GB used and 5GB cached. I do believe windows will cache and release when needed.

That would leave less than 6Gb for a game to run and some do take it, not often but some do. Then you havve games like Shad of Morder which will just take what ever video ram that is available, not really need it but will use it all the same.

Never mind the op has not give us much info to go on, no resolution unless i missed that part. But it's a big part and a 970 in metro 30-40fps might actually be good as we don't know enough about the setup.

EDIT, i would of thought Metro would be a memory hog.

Hell yeah, metro was a beast of a game ,keeping in mind that the earlier titles were released years ago... generations before the GTX 970 ever came to market. My reference 970s are just about performance-wise the same as a GTX 980 ,and on full settings I get around 50-40 FPS , in "graphic slow" situations ,and 30 to 40 in heavy graphical situations.
