Battlefield V Takes Players Back to World War II

If there's something that Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: WWII have taught us, it's that nostalgia sells - and it sells a lot. The numbers don't lie. Battlefield 1 not only sold faster than Battlefield 4, but it also broke the 25 million players barrier not so long ago. Call of Duty: WWII didn't do too shabby either becoming the best-selling Call of Duty installment since Black Ops II. The ultimate goal for EA now is to keep the traction going and that's where Battlefield V comes in. Battlefield V, originally known internally as Battlefield 2, is the direct sequel to Battlefield 1, and as thus, the game's setting and story will take place in World War II. Hardcore Battlefield fans might recall that EA previously visited the World War II era in Battlefield 1942. However, the publisher has promised that Battlefield V won't a mere remaster but a completely new game from the ground up.

For better or worse, EA and loot boxes always seem to find themselves together in the same sentence. Anonymous sources have confirmed that Battlefield V will have loot boxes However, the loot boxes are limited to cosmetic items to customize your soldier just like in Battlefield 1 - so no worries there. EA has promised a playable "next Battlefield experience" this year at the E3 event in June. Battlefield V is expected to launch later this year.

yawnfest 2018, good thing we have a lot of great Indie developers these days

I am not shocked, I think most of us guessed WWII was next.

And after that Vietnam, and then back to modern theater. Oddly how come shooters never visit the Korean War? I think I know the answer already but just want to know what others think.

great question, I would like to know myself... I am guessing because the war was never technically over, we have just been at a ceasefire for 50ish years. i don't think an end was ever declared, and our presence is still there on the dividing line. so i am guessing its just too sensitive... would be cool to see Black Ops 4 tackle the subject though, since its more communist themed domino effect theory, and such.

The Vietnamese calls it the resistance war against America...
It was interesting visiting the Củ Chi tunnels and seeing the Vietnamese anti US propaganda movies.
Kind of makes you think differently about what took place.

As for the Korean war, as someone mentioned, it's an ongoing conflict, kind of like the PRC/ROC war.

Also, could it be that the V has a double meaning as 5 and Victory?

I think the OP meant Battlefield 1942, because Battlefield 1943 was a console exclusive only available through digital distribution. That being said I absolutely loved BF 1943 and if the new one plays similar to that then I will definitely pick it up.
Someone mentioned indie devs. There's WAY more trash indie devs than good indie devs, look at early access. Its an ez money ticket for shit devs.

Um where does it say WW2? This is just rumor passed off as news at this point.

Big surprise, EA is at the party a year late and with a generic ripoff. When will EA go bankrupt so they can sell off all their IP?

According to official govt propaganda (schools), Korean War never happened and Vietnam War was wholly justified and not started by a lie.

If they redo BF Vietnam and it's as fun as the original, I will buy it (and I hate EA).

GamesBeat has learned from sources familiar with EA’s plans.

Sweet source.

I'll pass either way.

Ughh, another 3 years with PUBG....

Battlefield as a series died the moment they did Battlefront and decided people don't need vehicles on the ground to jump in but instead acting as a stupid freaken powerup.

Sorry, I don't care if you are doing it to be able to add more special effects, I want my @%#@% BIPLANE TO BE ON THE #%$^%$%^ GROUND SO I CAN TAKE OFF THE WAY IT IS MEANT TO $#^#&#$^ TAKE OFF YOU EA PIECES OF @#%#%!@%!!!

Same thing with the Battlefront series. They'll get my money again, when I can see that X-Wing waiting for me on it's landing pad. Sure I might have to camp it because every 5yr old will be vying to take off and crash it into a tree within 5 secs, but it's a tradition in Battlefield series whenever anyone gets in a vehicle that should be lifetime banned from ever using one. You just learn to expect it. Make a solo squad so no one can spawn on you, then just have a nice pleasant time until the enemy team gangs up on you in force to try and stop you.

I welcomed the removal of vehicles, too many matches and terrible server because of air jockeys or tankers that were nearly unkillable and whenever they're about to die would simply go out of bounds, repair to Max hp, then come back to make anyone who is on foot lives miserable. Even then I'd give them a pass because I feel that is kind of what they're supposed to do and infantry are provided with the tools to deal with... Oh wait, if an anti-vehicle weapon's munitions aren't supplied from Nerf, it is just outright banned in the server setting. On the off chance, say a missile launcher wasn't banned post below radar nerf and you shot someone down with it response was verbal abuse and eventually a kick.

Battlefield Falklands - Great Britain vs Argentina. This would be a refreshing never before seen theatre with lots of potential. 1980s weaponry (and music!).

oh yes. yay WW2. that's awesome but my question is, do they care about the cheater? if not then i am not interested at all and will only play the storyline.

I hope black ops 4 does something neat. I have always been a fan of Treyarch, they have catered to the PC crowd more than other CoD company. I enjoyed all 3 black ops stories so far, looking forward to see what they have in store next. hope its something original. i would like them to stick with the communist theme myself, maybe they will be the ones to do the korean war :D

Wouldn't make for such great gameplay. This war only lasted 2months1week5days. It would work better as a map pack or small DLC campaign but to base an entire game off it, i think people will be bored of it within a month

I want some Iraq or Afghanistan action. If they can recreate realistic scenarios and environment, I will be sold.
WWII is already dried up. Too much is enough.

Um as I said this isn't confirmed.

Are you kidding? The length of the conflict has nothing to do with how much content you could create. If you really wanted you could create an alternate timeline wherein the Falklands escalated into WW3, the cold war become hot :)
