EVGA in a potentially controversial move, removed the "Guest RMA" option from its aftersales support. The option allowed consumers to return their DOA or broken graphics cards back to EVGA for replacements, without having to register their products with EVGA (thereby giving their data to the company). Consumers now have to register their products, which entails creating an EVGA membership (volunteering information such as your name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address). Only after creating an account, and registering your product, will you be able to file a standard RMA request with EVGA, a graphics card vendor which otherwise built a reputation of having the best product warranty, RMA, and upgrade policies in the industry.

This isn't a bad thing. I had to register in UK for EVGA RMA. It seems quite normal to register an account for a return.

No one is harvesting your data, its a very common thing to register detailed info to be eligible for RMA across various industries and has been like that for years before data harvesting was a concern. Camera industry used registration to provide users with extra benifits like extended warranty beyond standard time for unregistered devices. Sure it will certainly help EVGA weed out miners from genuine gamers.

Yes. Especially the hobby miners you find on TPU. Industrial scale mining, run by companies is the problem.

i myself do not mine, i would rather my resources go to WCG :D But i cant fault other users for mining as it everyones choice to do what they would like with their hardware :)

What are you talking about? Almost any GPU by any manufacturer will continue to operate for 4-5 years.

If you are talking ability to play newer games, don’t buy into their snow job that you must always have the latest and greatest. Buy a higher end card from previous gen when new ones come out and you will be just fine.

This. My 970 still pretty much max out every games that i have. With GPU pricing going really crazy right now i might end up holding it for another year at the very least. My concerned right now is more on replacing my aging 2500K....

Reading this I also wondered. EVGA has no rights to keep EU citizen data on US servers, someone could make a monstrous mess for them if they haven't thought of it. They kinda force it, a bored lawyer could make a fortune.

You really don't know where the site servers are, the GDPR implementation is still in motion, but the seriousness around it is monstrous, even for me during my daily work...

Not unexpected, if the return rate has risen because of miners, then EVGA will try to avoid losing too much profit with this. And to be honest, desktop discrete GPUs were not made to work 24/7 at full capability. They're not server grade hardware. So, in EVGA's mind, if you're mining all day, and your card breaks, it's likely because it has reached the end of its lifetime, not because the hardware was faulty. So it shouldn't go through RMA, go and buy a new card.
