I'm glad to see Intel still stomping everything AMD comes up with, without using the loser's tactic of drastically dropping prices. Intel should charge 'all the traffic will bear' for CPUs and platforms that are clearly superior. Cue the "but Ryzen 2 will change everything" posts - I loved hearing all the misguided arguments about how moar corz is so important, so what will be their mantra now? "Lower prices makes low performance less painful"? Millions of YouTube videos made by the thousands of wannabe video stars are contrary to this theory, the quality of YouTube content has tanked since Ryzen was released, "democratizing" core counts for the masses. It gets harder every day just to wade through all the self-serving crap, trying to find a useful video of a needed review, repair, or diagnosis. Thanks, AMD, for ruining another good thing, you should join the Flat Earth Society.

Well I guess we found the shitpost of the thread! :D This can only be trolling or lack of knowledge, but if the later I would advice you to read up on the general market, but in short: AMD is pushing marketshares in laptop and serversegment+ mainstream like they havent done since X2-series. If you have stock in intel you can be salty, but otherwise this is good for everyone (even the people swearing to intel) Ryzen is pushing innovation beyond what intel is capable/willing to. Regarding your salt towards youtube; if you cant handle to pick what you want to see onthere, get off youtube. Its like ranting about not liking to go to the movie after you've bought a ticket.

Intel's TIM makes me very, very, very, very depressed. I have this beast of a cooler, and the only thing holding it back is Intel's TIM. It's 100% bullshit. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT! I'd repeat myself more, but you'd all hate me even more.

But, I'll do it anyways.

Intel should solder their next gen CPUs. It's been quite a long while since I've owned an Intel chip--It was a Pentium Pro. I'm very impressed with this 8700k, but at the same time VERY disappointed. The ONLY, ONLY, ONLY thing holding it back is the TIM. The ONLY thing! It's a disgrace to all that is holy and unholy. It's ridiculous, honestly. It's a damn shame. They are bad people and they should feel bad.

The only reason I can come up with for it is warranty purposes. How can they tell that you actually overclocked and fried your chip? They can't. But if you want to overclock it for real, you have to delid it, and void your warranty. I can understand it--but at the same time I can hate it.

Still not as confusing as those dual core i5 & i7 mobile CPUs.

Don't get me started... But I raise you the Xeon lineup if you go for confusing. ;)

I had my old 7700K for 5 days until I delidded it with a razor blade. There's no way I'd be using those CPUs when there's that crappy TIM to make the product worse.

Yeah, delidding voids warranty, but seriously, it's pretty damn hard to break a CPU without killing with insane voltages etc., I've delidded 3 Intel CPUs in the last years (two with a razor, one with a delid tool), and it's as easy as opening a beer, if you know what you're doing. :)

The only thing I dont understand is why are they using the 9000 series when that should be reserved for the 9th gen cpu's.

The only thing I dont understand is why are they using the 9000 series when that should be reserved for the 9th gen cpu's.

I expect new naming scheme starting with 10nm desktop / proper 10nm mobile (instead of some low-end i3).
So they might as well call them 9th gen and be done with it.

2019 is going to be the exiting year. Intel 10nm vs AMD 7nm with Spectre, Meltdown, Ryzenfall, Chimera, MasterKey fixes in hardware instead of software/workarounds.

Intel's TIM makes me very, very, very, very depressed. I have this beast of a cooler, and the only thing holding it back is Intel's TIM. It's 100% bullshit. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT! I'd repeat myself more, but you'd all hate me even more.

It is very easy to delid with tool, or you can use a delid service.
Took a 8700K to 5.2 GHz last week post delid. ~25C temp drop. I have delidded around 20 Intel CPU's since Ivy Bridge. All succesful.

Yeah it sucks, but there's no other option for high fps gamers (especially). Ryzen gimps fps too much for 120-240 Hz gaming. Much lower min, max and avg fps in 9 out of 10 games.

8700K at 5 GHz slams Ryzen 2700X at 4.2 GHz in games. Often 2700X stock will have similar gaming performance as all cores at 4.2, because of single core boost clock up to 4.35 GHz, but all cores barely even hits 4.2. TPU hit 4.0 on their 2700X if I remember correctly. And 4.1 on 2600/2600X.

I really hope 7nm Zen 2 is capable of 4.5+ I'd hate to see even more cores with same IPC and clockspeed limit. Most software and almost all games are not heavily multithreaded.

People are always shouting that competition is good for consumers, but then criticize everything that Intel launches nowadays!

It seems that for some people, monopoly is only bad, when it´s not the brand they like the most dominating the market.

It's good for everyone that Intel, even caught up with the pants on hand, continue to launch alternative products to Ryzen. A mainstream 8C/16T is a good adition.

I don't want more cores I want more PCI-E Lanes! And a better IPC and a better IMC...
If we're going to keep getting more cores how about more memory channels...

Clearly all you who still complain about the lack of solder on Intel CPUs havent read this. And you really should because you know nothing. https://overclocking.guide/the-truth-about-cpu-soldering/

Hello there 2016... lol... this article is 2,5 years old and already put in perspective. Its a cost consideration on Intels part and nothing else. And it works fine for the vast majority of their line up lets not fool ourselves. But with the 14nm on steroids that the K-CPUs are, it runs into thermal issues. The TIM solution is at its limit.

@las Just wanted to say I much prefer your new style of advocating delids. Im sure you get me ;)

People are always shouting that competition is good for consumers, but then criticize everything that Intel launches nowadays!

Amen to that!

If we're going to keep getting more cores how about more memory channels...

Thats HEDT territory plain and simple. The segmentation is only positive because I really dont want to pay for those lanes or channels like you do...

Sitting it out with 6700k and gtx 1080 until they release something on a newer node after all these years, ideally both cpu and gpu being on 7nm. Time to move forward from 14++++++++++

I'm probably not buying any new Intel CPU's for as long as they'll insist on using garbage thermal goo. Their CPU's have absolutely horrendous thermals and there is NO way in improving them unless you delid them. Which is just retardation and defeats the purpose.

I just dont get it as I have never delided my Intel CPU...I am using an 8700K @ 4.9GHz at under 1.3vcore running an AIO with absolutly no temp problems whatsover no matter what I test the CPU with and that includes AIDA, Prime95, RealBench. At Idles, I am at 30 Degrees C and at max bench testing with AIDA, Prime95, Realbench,it hits mid 70's Degreed C with occasional spikes to late 70's. In normal use (99% of the time) gaming and any prroduction work I can throw at it, 30's to 60 degrees C max. This 'Garbage Thermal Goo' still manages to give a whole GHz advantage over Ryzen without missing a beat.

Ryzen on the other can barely overclock and getting anything over 4 to 4.1GHz is beyond painful. Sadly overclocking Ryzen is fast becoming pointless due to XFR 2.,,

I'm glad your CPU works so well for YOU.
Not sure why you had to have a go at Ryzen though, it's irrelevant, it's like me saying your CPU is limited by cores when that isn't the topic.

It's no different to you stating that Intel has absolutly horrendous temps. Obvoiusly you have never had the CPU yourself to actually test that conjecture. Now if you had said, my Intel CPU was horrendous due to bad temps, or something like I hate Intel...both valid arguments, it would have been okay.

But 4.9 with less than 1.3v is a pretty good OC and a sign of a very good chip. The thermal issues appear when you cross into >135W territory and beyond 1.32v give or take.

Most 8700Ks need quite a bit more than 1.3 to get 4.9, and some even need 1.3v to get a 4.7 all core boost, which means the OC headroom simply isnt there with the stock TIM. It shows that the TIM is at the edge of its capacity.

If I want to hit 4.9 I need 1.36v which means temps skyrocket straight into high 80s and peak at 95 C. Prolonged loads like that will push the solution beyond TjMax.

I have no problems with what you are saying becouse even I struggle when I go to 5GHz I need 1.327v just to get stable and then the temps are in the 80's with spikes. My issue is with blanket statements around temps when within specs there are absolutly no problems and only when you overclock are you going to really hit thermal limits...even then you are still getting an all core overclock that is still stellar, even at 4.7, 4.8 and 4.9...the very word overclocking suggets that you are pushing the CPU and thus will need better cooling and if you really are pushing the limits then de-lidding comes into play....it certainly is not 'horrendous thermals' by any stretch of the imagination.

Replacing their bottom of the barrel toothpaste TIM with something that performs better is another option. They could continue beating their drum about absurd scenarios for soldered CPUs and performance of Intel CPUs wouldn't be gated by their TIM.

Nazi's = bad people, Murderers = bad people....I could give you many more examples...and just in case you think they should feel sad, Intel have generated record revenues this year now totalling 17 billion Dollars in just the first quarter...just to make it clear, thats 17 Billion dollars in revenue in the first 3 months of 2018.....I think they feel quiet happy regardless how you, me or anyone else thinks of them.

This is really getting old though, but turn the idea around for once: Intel chips allow you to do a delid with low risk of breaking something and go bare die or liquid metal to push it beyond even the max recommended vCore. With competitors, there is no such option because of solder.

It would seem to me like the i9 is about a decade old unless it comes with at least 44 PCIe lanes although 64 would be ideal. What is the point of having more than one slot on a motherboard if the latest gaming processor can only really adequately handle 1. Even if you freed up enough pcie lanes by gimping everything else you still have a 4 lane bottleneck inherent in the DMI design. What year is it again?
