1170/80 is the replacement of 1080ti so why pay the same as 16 months old card. GTX 780 went down from 700 to 500$ and then 300$. Would you still pay 700$ MSRP for GTX 970. no you pay half. So 700$ buys you a pair of 1080ti/1170 for SLI if you think about it. Do not settle for anything less. 7nm is delivering more than double density that of 14nm so 484 square mm is shrinked to 242 barely enough to put 256 bit memory, that is GTX 1060 territory. You can't make this shit up.

No, just no. They 1180 will outperform a 1080Ti, and 1170 May or may not...it has only happened once.

Finally, the most important “no” is that they don’t replace the 1080Ti. They replace the 1070 and 1080 in the lineup.

1080Ti gets replaced by, you guessed it, the 1180Ti. You need to stop confusing performance with placement in the product stack.

The point is that If nvidia are lowering the prices they are telling us where the new performance per dollar is going to be. But new gen will have to coexist with the old to be shure not to be getting a bad deal.

That is also a false arguement as an ##80 can also be overclocked.

As this is a news piece I will go off topic slightly, well technically since I am thinking there maybe possible new NVidia card discounts this may not be strictly not off topic I have not bought a GPU for more than 3 years, my last 3 cards have been AMD so I want to try the green side for a change, I currently have a 290X, it's still going strong but I "want" to upgrade, I only play a couple of games (more time than anything), I have been thinking if I want a minimum 20% performance improvement that I will need to go 1070, anyone not agree with me? Happy to be convinced that a 1060 6GB with a healthy overclock will do! Should mention I game on an Ultrawide panel 2560 x 1080.

In order to stay on topic, I will buy the card this month if I see prices drop

As this is a news piece I will go off topic slightly, well technically since I am thinking there maybe possible new NVidia card discounts this may not be strictly not off topic I have not bought a GPU for more than 3 years, my last 3 cards have been AMD so I want to try the green side for a change, I currently have a 290X, it's still going strong but I "want" to upgrade, I only play a couple of games (more time than anything), I have been thinking if I want a minimum 20% performance improvement that I will need to go 1070, anyone not agree with me? Happy to be convinced that a 1060 6GB with a healthy overclock will do! Should mention I game on an Ultrawide panel 2560 x 1080.

Of the two, if that is your goal, then you want a 1070. No way would I advise someone who holds on to a card three generations to get a 1060.

Just....no. The 970 was not a 780Ti beater. It was a 780 beater. As I said earlier, the first time this happened was the 1070.

Tpu results look it up. It is -3%, and I don't care if it were +-6% FPS. Later with new drivers it got much worse. Optimisations. Now in case of 1170 12NM it will be much slower than TI I agree but 1180 could possibly be having same spec as Ti, so again if 1070 oc can reach 1080 stock, im just expecting the same of 1170. 7NM with 25% overclock brings it very close to -5%. With Probably better implemented DX12 in hardware and tensor.

I'm largely in the same boat, it's been awhile since I've bought a new card. The last one I got myself is a Strix 380X and it's been good, esp for my use. I don't have much of anything that's demanding on a card going on here, it was more of a viability thing when I got it.
I'd like to grab an upgrade soon myself and thinking if I do, I know I can wait and see what comes around and for how much.

Yeah, that would delay the release of next gen cards all right and that sucks.

Ok it's time to stop believing in the Easter Bunny, and cookies being made by elves in side tree trunks. Corporations by law, are required to maximize profits , Failure to do so is malfeasance. So only 2 things will require the card manufacturers and every one else down the sales choice to lower costs:

1. AMD comes out with even a semblance of competition.
2. Customers stop buying

The consumer has control over only one of those options.

Good to see I'm not the only one wondering why everyone expects Nvidia to repeat the fluke that was the 1K series. I'm beginning to wonder if they have anything beyond the Titan V ready.
