Removing an option from the consumer that doesn't benefit the consumer in any way is never anything other than a con.
Maybe, but removing the need for analog circuitry does benefit the customer: it makes for a slightly cheaper board and instead of a connector that maybe 5% of the users need, you get a HDMI or maybe 2 miniDP connectors instead. They could also leave that space empty for better air flow, but I haven't seen anyone doing that.
