... I'm thinking of something: maybe NVidia decided those insane prices because Turing is the best mining chip ever made yet?

No but seriously, some might say NVidia will always find someone paying 1100$ for a GPU but I have the intuition Turing prices are totally missing their target...

many people talk about upgrade from the 1000 generation, I have a 780 Ti and im not buying any of this either, I have chosen the 780 Ti not because it was fast or cheap: because it's the last ngreedia card that runs without firmware (full open source linux compatible), the last card that has drivers for windows 2000/xp/2003 - this 2 things allow you to play directx games either with Xen VGA passthrough in linux or in virtualbox with WineD3D translated to OpenGL - as close as you can get to being a gamer and at the same time free from windows :)

That's great.

On another note, I'll probably upgrade this fall. If not for any other reason, then because my card has 1 year of warranty left. No one in my country is paying me good money for it when it's close to being out of it, with 13 months left it still has some value. I think I may lose more by waiting than I can gain. I'd like the RTX 2080, currently in PL it's priced slightly above 1080Ti (it's 10% more for pre order on Gigabyte/Inno3D AIB 2080 than their respective 1080Ti versions) but I can wait till October, the prices will settle and reviews will be out. If RTX turns out to be too much for current games to handle and doesn't run well even on 2080, then a new 1080Ti is also an option.

What competition? AMD doesn't even have a card to succesfully compete with a 2 years old 1080 card, not to mention those top dogs. nGreedia just pulled another Apple/Intel...
Oh well, I guess I will live long and prosper with my 1080....

You haven't been keeping up with tech news have you? 1070<Vega 56<1070 Ti<1080<Vega 64<1080 Ti

Trouble is, the Vega64 is 20-30% more expensive then the 1080 in my country, so no real incentive to buy one...
