Telltale Games Enters Majority Closure, Walking Dead Finale Reportedly Cancelled

There are a number of adventure games released in the last few years that aren’t visual novels. I would say 80% are by indies, but the genre is definitely seeing a resurgence. They have had to adapt by not being so completely puzzle centric, but they are still there.

The last one I played was Lake Ridden, which had me hooked throughout and stumped me for hours on a couple of it’s puzzles.

TTG was yet another case of chronic mis-management and toxic, hostile work environments. And not toxic as " They used the wrong pronouns, TRIGGERED" toxic, but rather "constant crunch, anger, resentment, poor working conditions, hostile management" toxic. CDPR will run into the same issue sooner or later, and many game devs are already having issues attracting newer employees because of these poor working conditions.

Just a good reminder that a smaller publisher may be just as bad, if not worse, then big ones like EA. When you have such high turnover and infighting, you waste tons of resources on training new employees, remediation situations, game delays, ece. It is an old tale, one that goes back centuries, and TTG is just the latest company to rip itself apart with poor management.

Yep, can't sell a product to someone who doesn't know it exists. But I have to ask how do you target gamer's nowadays. I'm very atypical, I don't watch television, don't really the social media thing, and no longer read gaming mags or visit site as the I find the former archaic and latter too frivolous with content to bother with. To sum it up I'm pretty out of touch.

I've long thought that interactions with tech and media sites E.G. techspot, techpowerup, YouTube reviewers ece handing up free review copies, along with using twitter, facebook, reddit, ece to promote their games works a LOT better then traditional advertisements and is way cheaper.

That being said, people like you are not TTG's target audience, or anyone's for that matter. People who view no form of advertising are not any kind of target audience by definition, because you are not even in the audience. The vast majority of gamers, including the more casual types that would actually buy glorified TV shows with quick time events, watch TV, read gaming mags, and are invested in social media.

Nope, I'd say it's warranted. These former employees are without work and without severance pay. Telltale didn't follow the law so they should be fined to give their former employees a severance pay so they don't end up on the welfare system. Big businesses (and Telltale qualifies under the language of the law) can't do what Telltale did without warning. My guess is Telltale knew this and figured paying legal fees would be cheaper than actually paying severance. They'll likely settle out of court or it will be rolled into a bankruptcy filing.

I can’t disagree with you. I fear however, the owners probably squandered every last bit, maybe not even paying their payroll insurance guarantees amongst other insurances.

It really sounds like there isn’t a dime left not even reserves. They were on life support a lot longer than we thought, I bet. I hope that’s not the case, and wish the employees luck. Hopefully they aren’t trying to get blood from a stone.

If that were true, they would have filed for bankruptcy protection. They did not yet so the firings were a preemptive strike.
