Chinese Government Allegedly Used Supermicro Motherboards to Spy on US Enterprises

Forget the tariffs, it's time to ban all Chinese hardware at this rate. They should have to pay for all the repeated spying and theft.

Funny guy. You're aware that something like 80% of electronics (finished goods that is) are made there, right? But hey, if you want to pay $10,000 for a computer, go ahead.

Any companies you know that want to start manufacturing in Taiwan, point them my way.

Yup.

Every major power spies on every other one. The US was caught at it with its Western allies a few years ago (wikileaks?). Our own GCHQ is no Saint either.
Also, the companies concerned have stated it's not quite like Bloomberg says.
Edward Snowden. Not Julian Assange (wikileaks). It's funny. Cliche. No one knows the difference.

Watch this clip showing the same. Start at 07:27. Classic!

I know it's not practical at this point, but others can and should take the opportunity to increase their electronics manufacturing capability. The world needn't be subject to the whims of the Communist party in China. We're better than this and if we have to pay more for electronics then it's worth it to isolate the Chinese economy until they want to play nice with the rest of the world.

wasnt china scare to be spyed by us when importing server from usa?
China bans foreign telco infrastructure equipment.

Before banning all Chinese hardware, US gov needs to solve the rare earth supply issue.

https://graphitepublications.com/will-chinas-outrageous-rare-earth-monopoly-persist/
China's rare earth near monopoly was built on SOE (state own enterprise) which has driven private competitors from the market. Rare earth very important for electronics component production logistics chain. There's a reason why Soviet's SOEs was blocked by most of the western world.

After China securing Rare-Earth near monopoly, China Dangles Rare-Earth Resources to Lure Investment.

To win real wars, it's all about logistics chain.

FYI, significant number of PS4s are made in Japan while significant number of LG and Samsung Android phones are made out-side of China.

Made in Japan PS4s are price competitive against made in China Xbox One. The main problems are logistics.

US needs to work with CPTPP member (SK joining) countries for the logistic issues.

CPTPP = The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, also known as TPP11 or TPP-11, soon to be TPP-12 with SK joining the trade block. TPP-11 already matches China's GDP.

That was quick. The same guy who has walked me through some technical issues before wrote back. But he just redirected me to a press release refuting the Bloomberg article. lol

Holy shit, they use Coldfusion. Reason enough alone not to buy their boards...

I'm not sure I buy into that level of criminal conspiracy.

Sadly, it isn't that much of a conspiracy.

so they gonna sell supermicro in super low price? i'm gonna take it :D

Julian Assange is the guy that has such bad hygiene the Ecuadorian embassy wants him out ASAP, so I'm pretty sure they know the difference.

Some is, some isn't. I was referring explicitly to a few particular uncited claims, but sadly a lot of what is claimed here has backing from credible sources, I am finding...

What I've learned of the world these past few months has me convinced I should just shelve my computer because I can't trust anyone.

Or stop caring. Guess which is more likely?

So China has the ability to plant hardware bugs. I wonder how many other countries have this ability.

based on their technology, many
so actually there's no hardware that 100% safe coz by design

Yeah, I know. But, I think you missed the point. The majority of the general populace doesn't know who Edward Snowden is. For example the person I quoted. For example the video I provided a link to.

Depends on where you live. Around here Snowden is kind of a folk hero.

It's not about ability. Sevreral have ability. It's the audacity to actually do it that sets one apart.

No, actually there's only a handful of nations which can do what is claimed in the article. The US sits atop that pile whilst China is probably in that top bracket. You also have to remember that high end hardware passes through a few hands (nations) so even if theoretically possible, the hardware to be installed can only be done by nations having physical access to these boards.

actually there's no man made stuff that 100% safe, it must have bugs or backdoor somewhere, some bugs or backdoor get patched but some (if there's no one found them) will be left open for some reason
actually if you aren't important person or public figure or presidents or like that it would be safe, who will take a sweat digging into your system

Well, I'm pretty happy with their consumer level stuff. You aren't going to find anything out of place on them. lol. But it is kind of embarrassing being their customer now.

Keep in mind that Snowden was CIA himself. And it's common to place CIA operatives in other fields, after they supposedly leave or "retire". He became a contractor who just so happened to work with the systems the CIA would love to get their hands on (NSA), and gave them a bad name in the press... weakening the NSA's control (and leaving it open for more control by others). I don't think he's the hero he's made out to be. He might be a grey hat at best.

And like I said, the CIA controls a lot of press (Operation Mockingbird), who told you that he was this folk hero. Pardon my French, but their capacity to mindscrew everyone is on record... just not as well known against their own populace.

Well come on, most expected this sooner or later and i think it's on a much bigger scale than this company.

How ever it did make me think about the Google Dragonfly, China don't give a shit what the western side think. They will do what they want to.

I have a rather neutral view of him myself, but a lot of what he said has ended up being verifiable so he's certainly someone I listen to when he talks... I still like supporting evidence though. Nothing is much good without it.

Good luck on that. We'll get right to it, right after we solve Kennedy's murder.

Chinese make really good food.... I'm just sayin'
But do they do it in a CLEAN and sanitary environment? ;)
Same with their Tech industry. Why always the "Made in China" products have the worst quality? ;)

That's the funniest ever comment on the history of humankind.:laugh::laugh:

Sure, if you eat it somewhere with food standards... ;)

Then I guess we'd best remain neutral, eh? ;)

I'd never be neutral about the CIA. Just as a rule of thumb. It's kind of the my whole premise.. and conclusion.

In fact, I wouldn't doubt that these very computers were actually made for the CIA BY China.. and not for China. lol. That's how much I distrust them. They couldn't make these computers themselves here, but they'd be the ones who'd benefit the most from using them.
