AMD's Zen 2 Could be Revealed on November 6th, "Next Horizon" Event Scheduled

AMD Investor Relations will host a "Next Horizon" event on November 6th, and although there is no confirmation on what products will be announced there, the title alone makes us think about AMD's Zen 2 architecture. The company has just explained that on that day their executives will "discuss the innovation of AMD products and technology, specifically designed with the datacenter on industry-leading 7 nm process technology". AMD announced Ryzen and quite a lot of details about the Zen's processors on their last "Horizon" event, so it seems plausible that the incoming event will be perfect to talk about its next-gen architecture. That focus on the 7 nm process technology will probably make AMD talk about their new Vega graphics, but it seems end users will have to wait, as datacenters come first.

The wait on Vega shouldn't be to long then, seeing as how AMD only has like 10% of the data center market. lol

I will be surprised if they come out this year, but I am looking forward to what they have to say. I'd love to do a 3700x or 3800x, x570 mobo, and a new vega 7nm around Spring/summer of next year as a graduation gift to myself.

What gives you the impression 7nm Vega is going to be a useful purchase?

"AMD CEO Lisa Su promises to be competitive again in high-end GPUs"

edit: i meant Navi, not vega, my bad, which should be next summer release

My god

EDIT: exactly. Thanks. But that still doesn't save you because Navi is targeting mainstream, mid range, look at the sentence below the yellow one.

Some roadmap btw, they don't even know what's coming after Navi. And we don't even know what Navi is going to remotely look like either. Honestly, I don't see any reason to believe AMD will be competing in high end anytime soon. So far nothing is concrete except for rebrands and refreshes.

I don't see Vega 7nm coming to the desktop. But maybe you will be able to get Navi 7nm instead :). I'm hoping to get a R7 3700 or R7 3700X sometime next year with an x570 motherboard as a nice upgrade from the 1700X I'm using now. And maybe later upgrade my RX480 to a Navi based 7nm GPU.

Yes I think that is realistic. Except it will be two years too late again.

yeah, I do read. professional market by end of year, Q1 2019... and I said Navi 7nm in Summer based on Lisa's statement they probably will try to compete high end, as the statement is recent.

your opinion only, Lisa says differently as of yesterday.

Yes, been there done that. So you think its realistic that this unknown 'NEXT-GEN' 7nm+ (non existant node on a non existant arch) is going to compete in the high end of whatever that is in 2020. And you're buying it in summer 2019 for graduation..

Great story. Stop spouting nonsense please and use your brain.

Navi is gonna be the small-to-mid sized chip that's gonna power next gen consoles.Of course consoles will have priority to most of them.

It is not nonsense, AMD's plans might have had slotted in a new high end GPU, did you not read the words of Lisa Su yesterday... I just posted them... yes workstation comes first, but you have no idea what they are going to announce, and based on her words of wanting to still compete in high end GPU market, they could very well have decided a few months ago to slow in a high end new gpu based on navi 7nm 2019 release. Its not nonsense if she directly states she wants to compete with high end gpu market still.

Lets just wait and see what they announce November 6th instead of putting each other down.

Black Friday sounds perfectly plausible for Zen2 desktop availability. Black Friday 2019 that is.

It is likely to be announced in spring (2019) though.

What should be understood is that Navi can be built in multiple sizes like Polaris was. Meaning a Midsized, small, and possibly a large version. The one used in the Playstation 5 will be part of a Zen based APU. The big question though is how big will Navi be (mm2) I'd imagine the chip will be sized between a Polaris 10 chip(232mm2) and maybe a GP104 (314mm2). I don't see them making a monolithic sized chip on 7nm yet like the GP102 (Titan Xp 471mm2) and exspecially not one like the TU102 (GTX 2080Ti 754mm2).

We will have to see how big AMD decides to make Navi next year. As of now performance is anyone's guess and whether or not Nvidia will release a 7nm GPU next year is also up in the air although I doubt it will be in the near term as the GTX 2x00 series just got released maybe near the end of the year, but I'm betting more on 2020.

Fine, let's wait and see so you can come to my conclusion in 4 days' time. No biggie.

I want a nice fast car, doesn't mean I'm getting one... You really have problems with reading comprehension - or just wishful thinking, blissfully ignorant of the facts and actual statements she made:

1541165033798.png

You can minus 1 me for calling you out on bullshit, but you started with Vega 7nm for 2019, then jumped to Navi because you got corrected, and now its 'something she will announce on Nov 6.'

Make up your mind, or just be honest and stop jumping to conclusions based on nothing. I get allergic reactions like this.

Let's see if they will unveil the new layout and packaging details on EPYC. On the GPU side I don't excepet anything for desktop PCs atm. Small Navi (Polaris successor) 1st in 1H/2019 and the big one (Vega10 successor) in late 2019 is all we know for now.

Seems to be a long haul waiting for a decently prized HDR monitor and GPU. Next year, or maybe 2020? Won't be upgrading from my my RX480 before those criteria are met.

Guys guys guys, tone down your expectations. Only 7nm EPYC was projected by the end of the year. Ryzen 7 3rd gen won't be until, maybe, end of Q1 2019.

Ryzen 3 or Ryzen 2+ (depending on what changes AMD makes to the core) will lag the desktop release by at least 6 months. So don't expect any (major or minor) revision to the chips before the end of 2019.

Not to mention that the development is funded by Sony…

It is not nonsense, AMD's plans might have had slotted in a new high end GPU, did you not read the words of Lisa Su yesterday... Its not nonsense if she directly states she wants to compete with high end gpu market still.
Well, that depends on what Lisa Su means by "high end", it might not be what consumers think it is.
AMD have already stated that Navi 10 will perform with "Vega level performance".

Navi is just the Architectural design of the chip that will be used in the Playstation 5. This means the changes to the architecture (compared to Vega) will be focused on the needs of gamers.
And how does this differ from previous GCN iterations? Are you implying that Vega was not focused on gaming?

GPU designs are normally scaled down, not up.
You have to remember that Turing is ~2× more energy efficient and offers close to 2× performance per TFLOP compared to Vega. Even with the advantage of 7nm, a ~300mm² Navi to compete with RTX 2080 Ti is pure fantasy.

Navi will not be multi-chip, so monolithic it is.
